Ive just rang vigin media as my last offer has now expired for me (see ntl offers ie: ntl 4mg bb with talk unlimited 24 for £22.99 for last offer which i posted last year)

They have now given me broadband size l(4mg),telephone size xl(same as old talk unlimited 24)with 60% off mobile And 20% of international calls and tv size m with free installation for £26.95 per month on a permanent basis so shouldnt go up in the future

this package should cost £53.00

the tv pack size m is free to all virgin media telephone customers but they usually charge £25 to install it

It looks like Sky could be pulling a few of their mainstream channels out on this deal with Virgin so please look into which channels Virgin are going to lose before making you choice.

Still a good deal for most people though.

People don't seem to be clicking the link so I'll make it a bit clearer:

Virgin Media (ex-Telewest/NTL) is to lose Sky1, Sky2, Sky3, Sky News, Sky Sports News[/FONT]

nice

anyone know ifyou have to have been with ntl/virgin media for a certain amount of time before you can ring them up asking for a better deal?

been with them since december when i moved, but all of these deals are better than what i'm currently paying :(
#7
i was only paying £22.99pm for the bb and phone for last 12 months until today.
I was expecting virgin to say i cant have anymore offers, but they offered this with the added extras ie:mobile and international calls discount and the free tv with installation,,so yes im very pleased
#8
give them a call on 150,you cant lose anything in asking:thumbsup:
#9
ps; good luck

Um, those channels aren't the only reason for using Telew... sorry, Virgin Media. Personally, I watch about 10mins of Sky Sports News per week and only flick onto Sky One about 7pm to see which Simpsons episode they are repeating. Not going to miss it at all really.
#12
Oh, I know....

But people are ordering this when Sky is still on all the channel listings on virginmedia.com that's false advertising and illegal... hence the rather obvious and large notice...

even so this is still a good deal for the telephone and broadband packs alone, should be £53 pm

the tv comes free anyway so would be ok for a kids room, saves having to buy a digital tv or freeview box when they gradually phase the standard analogue tv out

i just told them my old package and they come up with this 1(could also have had 2mg bb instead of the 4mg and package would have been £19.99,but i use the netguard total security which you get free with the 4 mg bb
#15
another though you might like to know is that they are offering the xl tv pack for £8.99pm for 6 months (this is what it says on bill i have today)but on a 12 month contract(you might be able to downgrade to a lower pack after the 1st 6 months though)

So you just said something along the lines of...

"I'm thinking of switching to another provider for broadband and phone services. What can you offer me?"

...?

I'm currently on the ex-NTL Talk Unlimited Weekends and 4mb BB for £35pm package, and the initial 12 month period expired a month back. An idiots guide to haggling this price down would be appreciated! :-D

I don't think you need to get quite so dramatic about it though. It's not false advertising... those channels are still on Virgin Media at the moment. And it may have been announced that the agreement is ending but these things don't always get carried through. And there are conditions in the Terms&Conditions that talk about the withdraw of channels so it's not really illegal!!! I've been on Telewest/Virgin for about 9 years now and, as well as the addition of channels, there's also been a number withdrawn over the years. In particular, I used to remember a channel where topless babes played darts on a beach and which had another programme where they rolled around in paint to make art. Oh, I think Strip Masterbrain was also on that channel. That channel going makes me more angry than Sky One!!!!

haha :-D

Sky One has exlcusive access to some rather massive and very popular tv series though, people dismissing it out of hand are being rather ignorant really when a significant percentage of VM customers will want Sky1.

If it was speculation, I'd agree with you.
Unfortunately the press release is from VM themselves, confirming the channels are going dinosteveus confirming it also from VM's call centre people when he cancelled all his cable services... the site should be updated otherwise it is misleading people.

i rang them with the offer i was on ie:4mg bb and talk unlimited 24 phone with line rental for £22.99 (which i have been on for past 11-12 months to which they then said they could now offer me this latest deal for £26.95 on a permanent basis

It is still a good deal, but Schizo is just pointing this out plain for all to see as there has already been an unhappy customer on these forums who purchased this package on the grounds they would be able to watch Sky 1.

it looks like this is going to be pulled so they will not be happy at all. But for most people this is a great deal. I have voted hot due to the amount you get for the price.

Thanks for the heads up Schizo, at least people now know what to expect when they make the purchase.

Thanks for the Information. Just got my £53 package reduced to £35.
Just told them I had seen a better deal on the SKY web site.:-D

The Loss of Sky1 etc is NOT cast in stone yet!

The current Sky /NTL:virgin contract ceases on 1st March but negotiations will continue upto and past that point.

So wait and see, if your not bothered about Sky1 get the deal... it's very good.

If you need Sky 1, you can still get the deal and cancel whenever you like as unlike New Customer's you won't be tied in for 12 months.
#25
You dont need to make up a story, just ask customer services what offers they have because your paying more than advertised. like shahie says, Virgin Media have not yet finished negotiating with sky for the channels, despite what sky are advertising, but if the deal does fall through, Virgin Media have plans to start their own channels competing with the sky channels, this probably isnt going to happen anytime soon, but give it a couple of months. i think Virgin Media are also currently doing the sky sports package £4 cheaper than Sky if you're on the size xl package.

this is true,,,when i rang them last year i had to make up a story ie;thinking of changing to sky or talk talk,,,but when i called today i was offered this bundle which the ladie said was one of their offers,,so should be available to all
#27
just another point to make regarding the tv package, if you dont want it you dont have to have it as they are giving it free(i only had it because it was being installed free, saves me buying a freeview box for my sons bedroom which is where this box is going)

also if i had to buy a freeview box i would more than likely have to replace the aerial as it isnt wideband(or whatever you call them)and wouldnt pick up the freeview signal

if you already have a virgin media cable installed at your house, but do not have any services, if you want, they will send you the set top box to install it yourself instead of waiting a couple of weeks for an installation engineer.

Scoobydoobydooo - thanks for this. I eventually got through (after hanging for an hour on the phone) and managed to save myself £20 a month on my package and doubled my bb speed as well. Voted hot.

On a purely selfish note - if I'm getting this installed on thursday, is £30 for 2mb broadband, talk weekend phone and the 300 texts/300 mins mobile sim a good deal, or not.

I kept telling them I was sure it should include the M TV package, but they weren't having it.

Size M Free when taken with Virgin Phone.

they should give you the size m tv free but might charge £25 to install(ask them for free installation tho)as you are having the telephone(unless it is because you havnt actually got the telephone installed yet in which case give them a ring when telephone is installed and they should give it to you free

cheers

Im tending to like VM as they are offering suburb deals, however Sky One is a big channel so they may lose a few customers over the issues , good shows include lost, 24, the simpsons, battlestar gallactica, stargate, atlantis, standoff, dream team and many more other shows

they may lose some tv customers(if people want to be sucked in by sky) but i wouldnt have their broadband,at least 12 of my friends and relatives have swapped to sky for broadband and are changing back as they are having nothing but trouble(all of them are having problems when browsing internet they cant receive calls on their phone even though it supposed to be broadband and not using their phone line and they all say that the speed is very very slow)
this has been going on for the past 2-3 months and all sky keep saying is they will get someone out to which non of them have seen an engineer(hence:they are cancelling sky bb and claiming back their money and rejoining virgin media.
but this may be a regional problem which they(sky) need to sort out fast

Just called VM
It seems everyone will get a free 6 months upgrade to the next TV package if they call to complain about the loss of Sky basic channels.
I tried to get 12 months out of them but they wouldn't budge.
Those who are already on XL will get 6 months free V+

Also, they will announce today that they have struck a deal with ABC to show Lost on Virgin Central

Just a little warning not sure if others have had the same troubles, but, Weve had NTL, Now Virgin Media for ages and in my opinion are incredibly crap, weve had no proper internet connection from no fault of our own for like the last month and many times before this, and there customer service is just as bad, anyone else had any other bad experiences?
