Looking to change my broadband and sick of paying BT line rental when I never use the phone line to make calls.

This offer from Virgin - Get the first 2 months free* plus get free installation worth up to £35 when you buy broadband TV and phone together online.

Seen this offer from Virgin and the one I have opted for is:

Broadband - LARGE
TV - LARGE
Phone Line - MEDIUM (this is the most basic they have)

This is priced at £24.00 per month for 12 months BUT with 2 months free. Line rental is £11.00 per month and is payable for the full 12 months. I queried this with a sales rep and the line rental is NOT part of the 2 months free deal (i am sure many people will assume it is).

So:
£24 * 10 months = £240
£11 * 12 months = £132
This makes £372.00 for the year. Quidco cashback £130 makes it £242.00, divide this by 12 gives £20.17 per month.

As per the title if you choose the most basic options which is still a good deal it works out at £16.42 per month taking into account Quidco cashback.

At least you get FREE INSTALLATION which is now normally £35 for a man in a van to come and spend 20 mins to attach a cable around the skirting board!

Quidco cashback makes the deal better but remember this is NEVER guaranteed. Has been £150 before but I remember it also has been £65 which is a huge difference.

Rate and comment please.

Thought I would put here some of the legal stuff which makes the offer easier to follow:

IMO you are pauing too much. BT line is 11.50 and o2 broadband is 5.00 with cashback. VM tv is just freeview, so you don't get much for the extra 7.00, plus you are taking a big risk with cashback (especially with Quidco).

Are you an O2 mobile customer? I am not so would not qualify for discount. Also my area does not allow O2 broadband and have to have their Access service which is basically the "Pro" fee for a very poor package.

Quidco are actually excellent in tracking Virgin media orders and now email you when to confirm tracking for piece of mind. EDIT: £130.00 from Virgin Media tracked on 26/11/2009

Even without Quidco it is £31 and considering I am already paying £27.50 for BT line rental and a different internet provider and the channels are not bad for the large Virgin package. Obviously Sky is better but very complicated to find a good deal.

cold voters - why is this cold? if there is a better offer else where then do share with us all.

Maybe you saying "Sky is better" wasn't the best way to warm people to this?

I have VM tv/phone/bb and V+ HD box. I think VM is way better than Sky, I was with Sky for 6 years prior to moving to an area with VM. Their bb is superb and reliable, V+ with catchup tv is much better than Sky+ and I'd never consider returning to Sky. I'll tell VM I will though when the 12 months is up ;-)

I agree mostly the V+ has some great features but its interface is TERRIBLE,its slow and clunky unlike Sky, it freezes a lot and button presses do nothing, then all of a sudden every button you bashed while trying to get it to work again activates in a blink of an eye.
Thinks looking up for the future though as Virgin have gone into partnership with TIVO, hopefully they will sort these infuriating bugs out.

I do get that occasionally, the knack is knowing your key presses are not working and stopping boefore the "58 key presses in one second" bit comes in lol

As I say, not very often though - have you got the new Samsung V+ box?

for broadband...virgin CABLE is ALWAYS going to be better than anything else.

tv wise sky is still better, but virgin is catching up quickly

Check this offer carefully. I think you will find that line rental of £11 is EXTRA.
Most of us now have mobiles and use those for calls. If you are not on a "package" you will pay a fortune for your calls. I regularly ring the USA for 1p per minute, it's 20 times as much via Virgin!

Yes the £11 is payable on top of any bundle and is paid for the 12 months contract and is not included in the promotion of 2 months free (as mentioned in the OP).

No I have the old cable&wireless box (it must be pretty old technology because my wife had the very same box when she lived in the states in 2001). Do you have the samsung? is it worth me nagging virgin into swapping mine?
#13
I have the Samsung and it is very good. I read they are only giving them to new subscribers to the service (which I was) and even if your C&W box dies they'll find you another C&W box! Obviously can't compare with old one as I've only had the Samsung, but the stuck menu thing isn't a major problem - but I get a feeling that's more often than not supply related rather than the box. If you can get the new one I'd say it is worth it, probably means you need to threaten to leave :)

Cheers will give it a try. Virgins customer service has been pretty good to me in the past.
#15
But the quidco was only £65 last week and still is?

BE WARNED - be prepared for Virgin to call you the day before the agreed installation date and then tell you that you get shunted by almost a month - if you are happy to be without everything while you are waiting, then this sounds good, but if you have cancelled all your other services in anticipation of Virgin delivering, good luck to you
