If you are a Virgin Media Customer give them a call and tell them you are not happy and would like a discount for the loss of the Sky Channels. They will offer you a free upgrade to the XL TV Package. They will do this by offering you a discount of £10.50 against the XL TV package price of £20.50 per month

This will then give you access to additional channels and give you a net saving of £1.50 against (L TV Package £11.50 month)

Due to a billing error I get 2mb BB, XL TV Package and Phone (Free evening and weekends) for £19.50 Month!!

hi,are you sure its the m package or l that you are getting the discount on as the size m pack is free anyway..so this would make it that you are actually being charged £10.00 for the xl pack

it was on working lunch today about complaining and getting an upgrade.. the guy they mentioned got upgraded and a reduce price (£5 per month)

They also said that if you are still under contract (not sure if its 12 or 18 months) you can cancel before the end of march if you are unhappy about losing the sky channels.. with just the standard 30 days notice

just a few tips

i'm on the old ntl now virgin media so not sure if this applies to others

don't use the old 0845 numbers

to complain about losing the sky channels call
0800 052 1139

to contact them for any other reason call 150 (via their landline not mobile)

So..VM customers are getting less channels but are VM reducing subscriptions accordingly?

No. That 'nice' Mr Branson is sticking the money saved into his pocket.

Hardly, they're doing everything they can to make up for it. They just halved my monthly total bill, down from £64 to £31. Best customer service I've come across.

Plus they're investing heavily in free on demand tv, including a lot of the progs previously exclusive to Sky.

No, I have read in several places that he has pledged to reinvest it in getting the programmig lost directly (already secured Lost, and soon to be 24) for the free on demand service.

Dont be cynical  if you wanna blame anyone, blame Ruthless Rupert Murdoch!

Last time I tried to get a better deal through Telewest they offered to put me through the cancelations section!

I had to ring VM yesterday about a fault in my TV service and it seems they have moved the call centre to a different country? If I wanted to ring now for a better deal would it be easier/harder to do so now?

Make sure you tell Sky why youre leaving - we all need to let them know as consumers we dont like thier dirty tricks. Email them explaining here - "][email protected]

If you dont agree with me fair enough dont have a go! I just think if you are boycotting sky you need to let them know, so your vote counts! They emailed me back with a really lame exuse -

Dear Russ

Thanks for taking the time to contact us about this.

I want to reassure you that our goal is for the Sky basic channels, including Sky One, Sky Two, Sky Sports News and the award-winning Sky News, to remain available to NTL/Virgin customers. We’re also offering more to NTL/Virgin than ever before, including new channels such as Sky Three and Sky Arts, the UK’s only dedicated arts channel.

At the moment, we’re working towards a new agreement that will keep these channels on air. We want to avoid any disruption but, ultimately, it is Virgin Media’s choice whether to continue to offer our channels.

Er nope - you doubled the price of your packages, so its ultimatley, your choice!

They're certainly getting less viewers now. Hope it misfires bigtime on them.

I just find it takes longer to explain myself and vice vesra. I have rang the Student Loans Company a few times and sometimes find it difficult with a scotish accent:oops:

At least you got a reply, even if it is a lame on. I canceled a few weeks back (because Sky charge way too much considering the huge number of ads they show), and haven't had any sort of reply.

Love him or loathe him, we all need Branson to succeed to give Sky some competition - while they've got a virtual monopoly, they can charge what they like.

He/She is just a bad loser! :whistling:
The poor sod is probably tied into a sky contract he wishes he could get out of or maybe lives out in some forest somewhere where the poor sod can't access VM.

Hehe - just kidding. But seriously i think VM are ten times better than sky

Lol,I think I must live in a forest,Sky wanted absurb sums to erect a special ariel for me! VM have come up with a great deal for me so I have gone with the Branson crowd. It has been rumoured that VM have some great tricks up there sleeve also. Time will tell.

i am moving out into my first house shortly, and am currently with VM s for about 5 years now. unfortunatly the road im going to move too doesn't have cable grr so looks like i will be stuck with sky until some good broadband packages become available :(

sucks because a few streets away they have cable, and some roads like mine are only aloud to be supplied by bt lines :'(
#21
Sky are losing it! They think they rule the world and can charge whatever they want with no circumstances!

Im glad Sky 1 and the others was lost (no pun intended). I loved sky one but hate bullies and people who think they can do whatever they want...

1) Vigin have taken 2 million of the 8 million viewers with them meaning Sky will get less advertising!
2) 2 leading bookies have pulled sky sports from the stores as Sky wanted an extra 2k per store.

They are losing it and wil leventually lose the battle...
#22
Just spent 1.5hours on the phone to them... as usual lol. BUT im more than happy to get the upgrade to XL for the same price, well i say i am... the kids are coz its loads more cartoons :-P

Anyways worth the call, SKY are a**holes. I already dl Lost, now 24 is next on the list so it doesnt bother me.

2 particular ladies up in the cancellations dept. in Sheffield are worth their weight in gold. Always helped me out and im very pleased with the service.

I just called them and they played a recorded message about how nasty Sky is and what they would like to do in a near future. At the end of the recorded message, the call was ended.... Nothing more...

Ring 150, then choose to cancel the services altogether (option 4 then 3 i think). Cancellations dept. dealt with mine no problem. Only thing was the wait time of 1.5 hours ;-)

Hi, what exactly did you tell them, i dont actually want it cancelled just want the extra channels :-D
#26
A friend called Virgin this morning to complain about the loss of sky. He was on the 3 for £30 package. He now has top broadband package, top tv package, top phone package and tv drive for no extra cost!
#27
A bit off topic but, the waiting times are FAR FAR TOO LONG. When it was Just TW, I got through straight away no matter what time I called. Now the wait time is 20 mins min (actual wait). Then you get through and they pass the buck to another department (cue the music). Another long wait later, and the phone battery starts blinking.

I also think that Branson, has done this on purpose. All for publicity and hype. Imagine VM with no SKY channels at all.

I just said that i was unhappy about loosing the tv i signed up for. I only ever watched sky 1, sports news and travel (lol !!) and straight away the lady said hang on a minute ill see what i can do. She said i could either switch to free settop box and freeview at no charge (coz of phone) or she said i could have the XL package to repace my old package - which i took.

No trying to con her... she was very easy going and gave me all the help and answers i needed. Just phone them and see what they say.
#29
Thanks to OP and everyone else, phoned them (although an hours wait) and they was happy to offer me the next t.v package up, i then enquired about the V+ service and they were happy to offer this to me at a discount price and for free installation, can't wait. Thanks again.
#30
Do you think they have readily available statistics of the channels you watch? I've already renogiated my package, but was going to phone on behalf of my mother this weekend. Only thing is she has never watched any of those Sky channels, just wondered that if I say she watches them all the time, they could turn round and say not according to our records!!!

I know they can monitor your channels as when my flatmate started work on the old TW engineering dept he texted me and told me what channel I was watching. Just wondered if anyone knew whether they actually keep records of this?!!!
#31
this looks like a good idea... we are on the 3 for £30 package (tv, broadband and Mobile) what do you reckon we'll get? lol... will get my husband to call later.
#32
Good luck with getting through today. After pressing all the relevant buttons to get through to the required department, they then tell you that they are busier than normal and cut you off. This is the third day in a row i've failed to get through to Virgin Media. They also ignore any emails sent to them, been trying to add extra services to my current package online. Sent the first request early last month, and two others since, but the haven't bothered their backsides to reply.
Been with Telewest for years without problem, but not at all impressed by Virgin. Gonna contact Sky and get the ball rolling to change over.
#33
45 mins on hold and then told I'll get a call back tomorrow...I'll let you know how it goes.
#34
I got through yesterday took about an hour,She said they had never had as many calls as they are getting now.She also knew about everyone reading the forums on the net and said some of the deals quoted are rubbish they have a set code for deals and and thats it they can't give any more so some of the deals people are quoting seem very suspect to me.
#35
prem plus has been switched off as well

load of crap
#36
phoned telewest today and after 2 retards on theother end of the phone i got thru to a bloke wholives in the next street who upgraded me to large tv and then said he would refund me an amount for losing the channels!

I agree, someone reckons they get 10 mb BB and phone(free w/e calls) plus caller display for £8.........that means they get their line rental discounted by £3 AND top BB for free..................yeah right!!
#38
I managed to get a upgrade to the xl package but this is only a 6 month offer then I will have to pay extra.

I have the 3 for £30 (TV, Phone & 2mb Broadband)bundle except I now get the xl tv package.

Hi all,
Just a heads up with some info about the lost sky channels on VM.
My fiancee works as a customer advisor at VM and they are currently experiencing a HUGE call volume in relation to this sky one removal etc.
One thing id like people to bear in mind is that it's NOTstaff you are speaking to's fault!
The amount of people she says that phoned up the day after they were removed cursing and swearing was unbelivable and demanding that the channels be turned back on, NOT grapsing the fact that this was an impossibility!!
The current hour long phone waits are directly releated to word of mouth and forums saying that VM are offering an upgrade to compensate.
However if you are on a current offer ie half price deal for 3-6 months you are not "supposed" to be offered an upgrade.
Also in order to qualify for an upgrade you need to have 3 services net/phone/tv. (dont shoot the messenger on this one, this is meant to be the situation).
As of 2007 i dont think losing sky one is as sevre as once was, the two main attractions 24 and lost, are readily available on the net if you know where to look, VM are looking to buy the first 3 seasons of lost to make available on new on demand channel virgin central.
For some regular updates and info on the situation keep an eye on the cable forums...... http://www.cableforum.co.uk/
An interesting poll on the cableforum found......
In a current members poll on Cable Forum – it was asked what would Virgin Media customers do – if Sky revoked its channels, out of 329 total votes cast, as of this moment, 278 said they would stay with Virgin Media, 51 said they would switch to Sky. Of course this is hardly representative of the millions of current cable TV subscribers but nonetheless, it is interesting to point out that the overall percentages for the poll have remained fairly consistent at 85% wanting to stay with Virgin Media, 15% wanting to leave for Sky.

Yep, the on demand service from VM will be just as good as sky, and you have piece of mind youre not being used as a pawn for the Murdoch the bully.
