Virgin Media direct debit discount

As you may know, Virgin Media charge an extra £5 a month to customers who don't pay by Direct Debit.

They called me up today as my bill was overdue, and I said I'd like to pay the full amount and set up DD for future bills so I wouldn't get charged the extra £5 a month.

To my surprise they told me that because I was setting up DD, I would get a £20 discount off my existing bill - they deducted it right away, I paid the reduced amount and set up the direct debit!

I asked for the department's phone number, they gave me 0870 902 0563... but the call from them came up on my phone as 0141 300 0225 (which is the same as last month when my bill was overdue).

Worth a try if you are a Virgin Media customer :)

I just ordered phone line + free TV package and paid £5 using credit card for installation. No direct debit setup yet. So I will definitely try when the phone line is active.
Rep added.

sonds like this think BBC's Watchdog was harping on about a few weeks ago, unfair charges for non direct debit payments, they recommended only paying the bill and sending a letter asking for reasons why you should pay the £5 extra

Sounds to me like they took off the DD charges you already had on your bill....

In ragrds to watchdog, I am on DD, and yes they screw up your bills now and again but they have changed the DD proceedure, if you call them within 5 days of the bill arriving they can change the bill and they only take out the changed amount, unlike NTL of old who used to credit it, take your month then give you a discount on your following bill.

Personally though, VM suits me fine, I will NEVER go to sky, besides, my V+ box is cool :)

Hi,

I would just like to say that I followed the advice and used the 0141 number given in the original thread and yep it worked a treat and there will be £20.00credit to my account. Not too shabby for a 30 second phone call.

Thanks

I know its been said before, but for anyone else that hasn't already done it, phone up and mention that you are considering leaving due to the basic Sky channel disaster from last month, they'll offer you a crazy deal just to keep the business.

I was on £40 a month for Starter TV (M-size after re-branding), Talk Evenings and Weekends (L-size now) and Basic 2MBit B/band (M-size now).

Now i've got Talk anytime (L size i think), same TV package and same Internet Package for £20 a month. Not too shabby. Thing is, i genuinely wanted to leave, cause TalkTalk is £240 a year + a crappy freeview box = £265 for year one. Virgin would have been £480 a year if i carried on with £40 a month, so now they are competetive again, and i don't need to chang to DSL from Cable either. Worked a treat.

Spoke to the rep on cancellations and he offered me Telephone XL and /broadband L for £26.50 when I mentioned the Talk Talk deal.
The offer is for life too no 3 month phoning them back malarky.

Absolute Bargin.

Do yourselves a favour and give them a call.

Go for option 1 [Billing Enquiries]. If you don't have any luck with them, ask to speak to Customer Relations :)

I am going to call them again, i have already had upgraded tv package and an extra v+ box but since they have changed the movies etc the variety has gone down hill.
You have to go through to Retentions by the way.
