Been on the phone to VM about changing my outdated package that i had since NTL dug the roads up.
FINALLY i got something FREE. Also small monthly charge of just £2 will cover the 0845 and 0870 numbers. I usually get billed about £20 a month for these calls so this is going to save me loads of money!!

I have slimmed my monthly package and i asked for a FREE wireless router and i got it.

I called 150 from my landline and and went to option 2, then 2 again. I told them i was thinking of leaving. This isnt not exclusively a retention deal. It is available to new customers and when you change your package. If at first you dont suceed then try try and try again. This seems to be VM's new motto. As is usual, they may say they know nothing about it so just call back and speak to a new staff. if you get fiesty with them then they close ranks lol

Apparently the free caller display and the charge for the 08 numbers has been available for a long while but they have not informed people. I have been paying for Caller Display when infact it is FREE! I might even try to get a refund.

Hope this helps people, good luck :)

Please let us know how you get on with this one.
From what i cAn find out, they are rolling out the service until March so you will still be paying for it but by calling them up they can take the charge off your bill immediately.

Update to mention that others have managed to get free caller display and have posted it here so it is definately a live one.

Just for anyone who doesnt know this is quite a good website to get an alternative number:
http://www.saynoto0870.com
Also 0870 and 0845 numbers are being phased out and changing to 0844 numbers (see OFCOM website), which in most cases are both cheaper to call and included within some calling packages (you would need to check your individual T's and C's).
Hope this helps

Yeah, i have used that site a few times.

It looks like VM are at last catching up with other providers. I got such a great mobile deal, 800 mins for £10 a month that i no longer need Talk Anytime. Free weekends and evenings and £2 to cover the cost of the 08 numbers is perfect for me.At last i can stop looking to change to another provider. :3

I was called back by the retentions department two days ago and had free 250 minutes every month for 0845/0870 calls included in my package and also given a free built in modem router. For £16.44 x 12 months thereafter £22.44 x 6.

Get them inculded in youre package. I had only been with them for a year.

I've had good luck with VM recently also. Called up to cancel expensive monthly payments and got cracking deal to match the one currently on offer with Tesco.

Me too. After years of almost begging they seem much happier to let you have what you want now.
I did get the £15 700 mins with tescos and had 300 mins £18 VM so now i just have 800 mins £10 with VM. I might treat myself. :D

VM are recalling the HOME HUBS they sent out.

It is free. Are you sure they wernt offering the 08 numbers in it as well? The woman i spoke to has been off since xmas and she said she had just found out about this.

This was meant to be rolled out in October 2010. It is definately free. Can anyone post back to tell us what they are saying.

TAKEN FROM VM

The roll out of Free Caller Display will start at the end of September 2010 and is expected to be completed during March 2011.

All new customers will be provisioned with Caller Display as default from mid-October onwards.

**As part of rolling this out to all customers, where Caller Display is not currently available, we’ll make appropriate upgrades to the network and also ensure current provisioning issues are fixed.**

I was still being charged for this so its definately worth calling them.

Its on a lot of discussion boards. I got it this morning and the woman that i spoke too was unaware of this before xmas. Its definately out there.

VM are a funny old lot. I had to make loads of calls to get the 800 mins deal for £10 as some said it didnt exist and others said it was over. I did get it and so did others. It doesnt surprise me that you didnt know, i didnt and i have been with them nearly 20 years i think.:D

Can someone please show the source of this free caller id thing.. I just searched their forums and found..

Hi there

Due to unforseen circumstances this will now not happen.

Please be advised that caller display will still be available for people to upgrade to but will be chargeable.

Thanks

I really really despise Virgin Media at times, it's only their net speeds that keep me with them as I've no alternative at present

Just spoke to VM again to clarify what is what with Called ID Display.

The offer i was given was based on how big my bills are etc.
I would also get the offer if i was threatening to leave. Retentions dept.
If i was a new customer i would probably be able to get it depending on what package i go for.
I have just managed to find outn that i am not on any contract for my services. I had a sneaky fealing that i was tied in for 12 mnths or something but i am not.

I have slimmed down my package to £29 a month and i now get a free wireless cable router, free called id and i pay £2 for free 0870 and 0845 numbers.
I have not upgraded my package i have down graded but i have ended up with more.

The £2 charge for free calls is available to everyone.

Cant you put on a different voice? :D
If you have been with them for a while the easiest way is to call retentions and say that you are not prepared to pay for stuff that other providers give for free.
You can also get this if you change your package and if you are a new customer.

I have a feeling VM will know more about this over the next few days. I made one call and got it.

Hopefully someone will post up that they got it too....... (_;)

This is what i was told this morning. I think there was/is a connection issue. It may not be all of them just certain models. As this is unconfirmed i have removed it.

Can you post a link to this quote please as I have looked all over their site with no search function and can not find anything about it apart from they will charge you £2.05 a month for it.
I have been getting so many annoying calls recently I have been very tempted to take this up even with the cost but don't want to pay if I don't have to obviously

Off the top of my head it was from AV forumms or Cable. You will also see people saying that they cancelled plans for this last year. I will post up my bill when it comes to show what i got but it wont help now i know.
I would expect some people posting to say they got free caller display etc a bit later on.

not interested in the 0845/0870 offer as I'm happy to put up with the mild inconvenience of looking alternative numbers up on saynoto0870...

yeah wasn't too difficult .. I don't know really but it works each time , I always land fantastic deals & more , look for my vodafone comments in the SIMO deals threads, infact I've also got some other fantastic freebies with my landline I'm not at liberty to disclose but the tip of the iceberg is free anytime calls and all for less than £20 notes, I got a dell streak unlocked ( not usually heard of ) by O2and also unlocked a Motorola Flipout PAYG by Orange (despite the usual 3month wait-£20 fee-stonewall) .. I could go on. The charm unfortunately doesn't work on ladies who are put off by my bench hopping trials-bike-riding skills.lol

Great little sideline if you can get it! I think determination is the key. I like to get the bit between my teeth too but i cant top what you have got. I am still glowing after i got my 800 mins for a tenner with VM even though i still had till April left on my contract. :3

What are you aiming for next apart from becoming a lottery multimillionaire? oO

i rang them today, and the lady said they were going to offer free caller id if it was available in ur area, but have now decided not to offer for free... too many people wanting it?! she said no one no matter what they say have not and will not get FREE caller id... she was a bit of a moody cow, so couldn't be bothered to carry on the conversation lol

Thats cos we are different lol. I always get lucky with the blokes *cough* they are so easy to get on side, so predictable. ;)
But it was a woman that gave me this deal.

I will post up my bill when i can. I havnt used the online features before. Will the deal i got show anywhere yet or will i have to wait until the bill is due?
I changed my tv from the XL to Medium and my landline from all day talk to evenings and weekends yet i got the discounts.
I feel lucky today. :p

I talked to retentions earlier. got my vip package reduced by £9pm and they chucked in a superhub as well.

I didn't bother with that £2 for 0870 numbers. instead i payed £2 to have a pin number.

I got my free router on Tues and so far so good. I was previousley using a dongle which loses connection constantly. The router has been so much better, no connection breaks.

Next on my list is a free hub, well done for getting it.
