I took out a 12 month Contract with Virgin Media November 2015, did not want to commit to a further contract until I knew I would be working in the area so my payments went up to £40.48 last month when out of contract.
I called today to see if they had any retention deals as I was considering going to an other provider.
The best offer they could make was £31pm for 6 months and then £34 for the next 6 months (12 month Contract) for 50mb.
I said that that was too high and I would look to find the best deal from other cheaper suppliers before calling them back to cancel.
The man I spoke to was very helpful and after I had mentioned that my current 50mb struggled to stream tv, he did some checks and speed checks but could not find any issues (other than I was downloading about 6 times the average).
he then said there was a full house bundle with 200mb, tivo and weekend calls he could do for £35 all in, as I was an existing customer. I declined and he said he would put a note on my file.
I looked about and was surprised to see that all prices were well up on last year and I was going to struggle to get anything much below £30pm.
I called back and said I had called previously and was just double checking before leaving them to go to another provider.
The young lad I spoke to said the best offer he could do was as above;£31pm for 6 months and then £34 for the next 6 months (12 month Contract). I then mentioned the previous full bundle the previous gentleman had offered me. the young lad said there was an email that had just been sent through and he would need to read it. he then came back and when i hummed and haa'd he offered £20 that would more than cover the 14.99 activation charge.
I then received the following confirmation:

I phoned vermin media to see if they had any offers as my contract runs out in Feb. I was having mega problems with my router disconnecting up to 10 times a day. I'm on my 7th router. As a gesture of goodwill they sent engineer number 6 to have a look and yes there was another fault so I was given a free router. I was then offered 6 months xl TV at a discount and 6 months 150 mb broadband at a discount. I confirmed that I wasn't entering into a new contract before I accepted to be told yes I will put a note on your account. When I spoke to the vermin rep two days ago I was told.... Very sorry we can't offer you any deals as you signed up to a 12 month contract in August when you received your new router..... I went berserk as you can imagine and things them to check back all the calls.... Needless to say nothing as usual has been done and I've been told if I go to a lower package it will cost me more..... How can that be. I can't wait to leave vermin media. They are a disgrace and their equipment is rubbish and is full of faults...... Worst customer service ever.... If there ate any vermin reps reading this ease feel free to contact me I would be more than happy to discuss anything. I'm actually thinking about paying to leave early I am that disgusted with their tactics. Sky here I come.

After going round the houses he would not offer anything said I would move to sky he more or less started bad mouthing them as broadband was not as fast etc.... In the end had to cancel and gave my 30 day notice, not offered anything

They will call you back between now and your end date and offer you an opening deal - be very polite, speak calmly and say thanks anyway but what I really want is the deal for £35.00 - they may offer you there and then or say we cant offer that so your contract will terminate on agreed date. Stick with it and they will call you back again and as long as you are calm and polite you will get your deal! Just been through it and they rang me back twice after I refused their initial offer. Good Luck.

Been a customer over 10 years currently have a 500Gb Tivo box TV XL, phone with 0870 numbers and up to 200MB broadband.

Didn't realise we were paying quite so much and they had sneaked the charges up! Just checked the broadband speed and am getting 5.84mb download and 11.88mb upload.

And the privilege of paying for this has only been £78 a month lol!!!

We never really watch the TV as the Tivo box is painfully slow and we have catch up, Netflix, Amazon and Now TV and use the phone once a month if that.

Just phoned up and explained all this and would like to cancel. All the guy offered me is UP TO 200mb broadband for £40 a month. I told him that our speeds were nowhere near that and he then criticised me for not phoning up to get it sorted!

Why would I need to if it works? Told him that it was still way too much and others charge a lot less than £40.

Then told me that we are high users of broadband, the average user uses 70GB a month and you used over 400GB last month. Seeing that it's unlimited that information was completely irrelevant.

Went on to say that no other provider could give me anywhere near their speeds - of a whopping 5.8mb!!

Suffice to say I continued with the cancellation. Long term loyalty appears to account for nothing.

Definitely going to leave unless I get offered a considerably better deal.

Great for those who have got a decent deal but Virgin's policy and attitude is terrible.

Just give my 30 day notice. There was nothing he could do and didn't seem bothered that I was cancelling. This offer is only for people upgrading their package by adding TV... And since I already have TV he couldn't do it...
Hopefully I get a phone call with a better offer if not il sign back up in my missus name.

I got this deal as a new customer. Walked in to virgin media store as I was looking to change from Sky, was offered this same bundle for 35. Heat added as it's a great deal, but not exclusive to retentions.

Aren't retention deals based on an individual basis? Or are they applicable to anyone and what would another customer ask for?

Someone came to my door and offered me this (200Mbps + TV channels, 12m contract for £35 per month) as an area-specific black Friday offer, but they kept cancelling the install date - coming today finally almost 2 months later. Price more than doubles after that though so get something else lined up or phone and negotiate.

Saw this deal on here and was shocked how low the price was as I have same deal and it costs me nearly £79/mth. Rang Virgin to see if I, ( a 30 yr customer) could have the same deal. I was told Virgin wouldn't match this deal as it included the addition a new service, (shown by addition of activation fee) and it would be a new customer. I am now checking out the opposition.

Yeah, I thought so - not even "meet you half way" or any other sweetener.

I've read that one's cancellation has 30 days on it so might be worth hanging in and waiting for Retention to call you with an offer...

Sounds like Kash-Miester was an existing customer. Anyone else snag this deal (or close) from scratch?

I pushed for a V6 box but they wouldn't budge at the £55 quid installation fee (reduced by £90 already apparently). If I can get a Superhub 3 included with the installation I am sorely tempted. Was also told this offer will probably get pulled some time next week.

With the £35 deal, I got the V6 box included and a superhub 3 router. Installation fee was waived as they said my line is already Tivo ready even though I have never had TV so only extra I had to pay was £14.99 activation fee.

I've just called to upgrade to this package. At first the lady in retention said she couldn't update my account as I already have BB, TV and Phone, however she then said that because I have the old V+ box HD (the one before the TiVO) then it can done. So if you have all 3 services, but the old TV box, well worth a call. Was previously paying £50 p/m for 100mb Broadband, Talk Weekend Phone and Medium TV. Thanks to OP now down to £35 p/m with extra. Happy days

Put in my cancellation at the weekend. The sky deals are good value at the moment, free fibre unlimited & setup, £100 mastercard & £110 cashback on the bundle we require. I'm not fussed if retentions get in touch. Will put on here if they get on touch & what they offer.
The rep I spoke to to cancel was terrible. Very argumentative & downright rude. I wanted to stay but after that call now adamant about leaving. Telling me blatant lies that no other provider can give us service to meet our requirements due to us watching netflix most evenings. (and that's only on one device at a time, apparently according to rep only 200mb connection is suitable for that. He also tried using how if will effect my family as some sort of leverage several times.)

Yes that's the bundle I've got but for the £39 they were doing it for customers without TV a couple of weeks a go, I currently have M TV! It's still available but you need to find the right person to deal with.

I've added another V6 box for £7.50 and have caller ID and 08 numbers for free. I tried getting unlimited calls for free too but they couldn't do it.

You do need to give your cancellation though and not just say you want it cheaper. This is what I was told by the guy I deal with, cancel online by saying you're moving abroad and then you can get a better deal.

I've been with Sky for the last 2 years but they won't get near the Virgin price. Even if they did it would be on the old Sky+ box and not Q. I was getting fed up with only being able to record 2 programmes at the same time, now I can record 12!! lol

could be one of many things, we had techs, then principal techs camped in our house for 6 months... After years of problems... Ended up with their top 2 guys turn up with a diagnostics machine, took them 2 mins to find the cable to our grid was missing... To find our cable was coming from a neighbours grid, was the wrong cable and was knotted... So It was like a fire engine fitted with a garden Hose, that's kinked and trying to put the London fire out... Once the cable was sorted... We still had nonstop problems with buffering and the utter pants tivo boxes... Sky = cheaper and near zero problems, no buffering either!
