An update to this deal:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deal/22056/virgin-media-digital-tv-lost-sky-ch/

I just called up Virgin and got one better. Their initial offering is as above, the 93 channel + 2mbit broadband for £20 or so. But I just argued a bit more and managed to get:

10 Mbit broadband
93 tv channels

all for £25/month!!

Most likely for existing customers only.

note that this is a far better deal, as for only £5 more you get 10mbit broadband instead of 2mbit....

the standard price for the package I've listed is over £45. in fact, the price of 10mbit broadband ALONE is £25 if you get the web discount...
#3
Thanks Chamelion. I rang vm when this was initially posted and reduced the cost for my package (tv, bb, telephone) from £55 to £35. Just rung again and told them I wasn't happy with the fact that they have lost sky and they offered my half price bb so the cost of my package has come down from £35 to £22.50. However, it took me an hour to get through and I know that prices will eventually creep up again (even though they say these are not time limited) but fantastic while it lasts.

Foxyuk u need to hint that you may go elsewhere - even though I had no intention of switching (just too much hassle imo). Initially he said to me that I was already on a good deal - i just said that since i got it they had lost sky. I am now paying £22.50 for 4meg bb, telephone free eve and weekends and tv package with all channells except sky movies and sports. You have to be polite but firm and ask if they can offer anything better. Oh and keep mentioning that Sky are offering good packages.
#6
Useful, Thanks.
Heat n rep added. (one red to 2 green!)

i was paying £35 just for 10mb for the last 3 years, last month rang up and got it for £25 a month, i might try ringing them again and get tv also.

Which size TV is the 93 channels?

It's the Size: L package and it's 83 channels not 93.

Mecoconuts. You're right there is no package with 93 channels. I managed to negotiate a deal with vm for the xl tv package (129 channels), the L bb (4meg) and L phone (free eve and weekends) for £22.50.
#11
93 channels include digital radio channels :)

4meg broadband
Medium TV
Free calls to landlines 24/7
Caller id
Number reject

To

£37.50 for

4meg broadband
XL TV
Free calls to landlines 24/7
Caller id
Number reject

Not the best price but will do me as its fixed for 12 months.

I called up to cancel my BB and Phone (genuinely) to switch to Tiscali and got offered:
4meg bb
Talk Unlimited 24/7
Call barring
For 21.70 p/m

Was previously paying 30 odd for:
2meg bb
Evening & Wkend calls
Call barring

So i decided to stay.
I was told that you can buy a wireless router and send Virgin (NTL) the reciept and they will refund you 40pounds.
Anyone else know anything about this?
#16
This isnt really a deal though, as its different for everyone.
I hear that the retention deals are being cut back on now too.
Personally, I phoned up on Saturday morning, and after a 45 min wait, ive managed to get:

TV - XL
Phone - Weekends & Evenings
Broadband - M
V+ (£75 installation fee waived)
Extra set-top box for bedroom

For £45 a month. Ive heard people getting better, but Im happy with this lot. No set duration either, it's 'for life' as long as I keep the same services. The only 'catch' is that the V+ box means a further 12 month contract, but then I have no plans to change in the next 12 months anyway.
#17
This set for for life how do we know it will be,Has anyone got anything in writing i know i have'nt they could turn round in 6 months and say it was only for 6 months.I got a good deal and took a tv package too (i had no tv at all before so sky is getting cancelled as soon as virgin fit the tv box)she said it would have to be for a new 12 month contract on the tv package because i didn't have tv before, i said thats fine as long as my deal is a permanent one she said yes the deal is permanent. But what could we do at a later date if they decide not to honour it.

Can I ask: Does the phone include the line Rental - or do you still have to pay BT?

oh.. and Hi! - I've been registered and lurking for a while - this forum is excellent and I've recommended it to many friends.. :) keep up the good work! :)

Hello Wilbo and welcome to the site! No you dont pay BT for a phone line. Virgin provide their own phone line, and its part of the deal.

And den169, you're absolutely right, they could turn around in 6 months and change their mind. I certainly have nothing in writing and didnt have the foresight to record the call. I suppose you just have to trust them on this one....
For anyone who got a deal though, I would thoroughly reccommend keeping a close eye on your next bill, I know I will be.

Afternoon. First post here but a avid viewer of the site. Firstly great work to everyone bringing the deals and compo's to the net public. I hope to contribute soon :)

On the VM deals. I phoned them up at the beginning of the week and got the VIP package - XL TV, Call 200 Phone, XL BB (10meg), Virgin mobile tarriff, Virgin International tarriff, HD Box and get to keep the 2nd box upstairs, Sky Movies & Sky Sports (Full package) Free installation on all this for £85. Its a bump up to what we have now £51 (basic telly & phone package & 10meg bb)

I'm not too sure if its a perfect deal, I have already called them back to query the price ups of each component and adding up their maths it is a saving of £43.

Not sure though, reading on some of the deals guys are getting here might downgrade it to an XL telly and BB. Can live without HD box as there isn't much in the way of content.
#22
are these posts all genuine?????? ...... 10mb bb + tv for £20 p/m etc......

the true story.........

just rang vm

was told that retentions now work with fixed tarrifs.

i.e. the system can no longer offer free upgrades here and there.

the min they offer to existing customers is as follows.......

4mb broadband
xl tv
unlntd phone

£35 p/m

so i dont know where the hell those ppl get 10mb + tv for £20

ok.. prepared to give it a go..

anyone got the cancellations number (external number not the internal one) - as I understand its better to ring this - and not sales..

thanks in advance.
#24
I did ask for something in writing even an email setting it out but they couldn't do that she said.i did manage to get her personal email so if i need to get in touch she will ring me back within 30 minutes bit quicker than ringing 150.I had thought before of recording the conversation but had no way of doing it.I did ask her if my conversation with her was being recorded she said no so how they could hold me to a 12 month contract i don't know.

Try Customer Relations: 0800 052 9403

Actually No!
Apparently the Customer relations/service folk just quote you the standard packages, unless you ask to be put through to retentions/ask to cancel

Heres the direct retentions dept No.
0800 073 0591

EDIT - In fact I just realised that Wilbo is asking as a potential subscriber and not as an existing customer. Apologies, Customer Services is probably your best bet right enough.
However I doubt they'd offer these to new customers to be honest....

I currently have NTL [email protected]

so - whichever number stops that bloody awful guitar riff + "Please continue to hold the line and your call will be answered as soon as possible" message..

Existing customer here and used the number I quoted above :) Mark Knopfler's guitar riff's not your thing then wilbo? lol

Thanks for the extra info alanchiz by the way ;-)

I'm currently paying full whack for my 10meg Broadband at the moment(£34.99), obviosly thats way too much in comparison to what others are getting and what other providers are offering (Im guessing).
So what should I be looking for, all I have at the moment is broadband, Ive looked at most of this thread and it seems to be mainly about 'packages'.

What should I say to the retentions lady/man person when I eeeeventually get through? (I hate talking on the phone and would like to be prepared before i speak ) Threaten to leave? Should I quote what other providers are offering? I wouldnt mind going down to 4 meg to be honest as well as Im not getting 10 meg speeds and 4meg by the sounds of it is going to 8meg soon anyway and that is more than enough for me.

Anyway thanks for reading and any help would be much appreciated!

Sorry to hear that! That was the number that worked for me, but then I am ex-Telewest.

WindowLicker, What I did was that I looked up what I was paying, and then had a look at the Sky website to see what their equivalent would cost. Theirs was £17.50 a month cheaper. That right there was my bargaining tool. I mentioned the Sky situation too but that was just 'in addition'
The guy on the phone was very helpful, as soon as I mentioned the price difference, and that I wasnt too happy about it, he agreed that the difference was unreasonable and went off the line for a minute to find out what he could offer me.
He came back with a £34 offer for my existing services (Tv-XL, BB-M, Phone-evenings/weekends - Total £49.50) with unlimited phone calls added.
I said I didnt really want the phone offer and so he dropped it to £30 a month. Quite a difference from £50. I then asked about adding the V+ box, didnt get that any cheaper, but he waived the £75 installation fee. So all in I'm still saving £4.50 a month.

I first read about the whole thing here:
Digitalspy retentions thread
have a look through there and you'll see some people discussing their 'tactics'
I think they are more likely to cut you a deal if you get at least 3 services from them, but either way its always worth a try. As long as you are polite to them, they'll probably try to help you if they can.
#33
After reading through the digitialspy forum, I re phoned VM and spoke to someone who told me they would contact me the day after installation and help me bring the bill down to round what I'm paying right now... lets hope this works out.

I just spoke to retentions and mentioned the deal you're on (I said it was a friend). The guy said he was surprised at what you were paying and the only way he could match it for us is if he spoke to you to verify it, then he would have no option but to apply the discount to our account. :-(

We're currently paying £76.50 for XL TV, Sky Sports, Star Plus (Asian channel - £10) and 10MB Broadband. He basically said despite the loss of the Sky channels he couldn't apply any more discounts to our bill. But £76.50 a month seems like a heck of a lot when other people are paying so much less! :-( :-(
