I have just got off the phone with Virgin Media and I got a cracking deal.

I am a new customer so this should work for everyone.

I now have 35 channels of TV, 2mb broadband free upgrade to 4mb in august as they are doing a improvement rollout and free uk calls 24/7.

They have obviously lost a lot of customers recently with the disagreement with sky resulting in certain shows being pulled from virgin medias service such as Prison Break. Virgin informed me that Richard Branson has gone and directly bought the rights to these shows so he is bringing them back in August.

This is going to cost me £20 inc vat and line rental. They are even going to pay the first £30 of my first bill.

All you have to do is contact Virgin Media and ask for the 3 for £20 deal. Remember that is inc vat and line rental and also make sure you get your £30 off the first bill.

Now that Richard has secured all the TV shows I am more than happy to use their service.

Hope you guys like this offer.

Virgin Media as far as I am aware used to be telewest and NTL, might be wrong on that though.

Not sure what VE and VN means though :-(

I just called 0845 840 7777 and asked if they could do some kind of deal on the packages. To be fair I think the three for £20 a month is a deal that they have on just now but you probably just have to ask for it. The person I spoke to gave me her direct number so I could check address and call her back. Dont want to give that number out here as she will probably get swamped and I dont think her commision is enough to be knocked off her feet all day :-D

I hope that answers all your questions.

Virgin or "the artist formely known as Telewest/NTL" I personally think blow sky out of the water, certainly in the broadband stakes. I used to run a speed test at any time of day or night and get exactly what i was paying for, none of this "up to" ADSL nonsense.

As far as the TV is concerned I found the Teleport service invaluable.

..and no, I don't work for them, actually have sky now and BB ranges from 1MB-11MB depending on time of day...

Heat and rep left..

And £55 Quidco !!!!

And £55 Quidco !!!!

Can you use the quidco along side ordering via a person over the telephone in the way I did? If so i just missed out on £55 :-(
#6
It's a real shame some of us don't live in cabled area.....so not everyone can get the deal:)
#7
theres no quidco u will have to ring them up for this deal correct me if i am wrong lol

Yup I am pretty sure that in order to get the deal you have to neglect quidco as I had to deal with a person to get the deal. Deal still blows any benefit that quidco would have given though so at least thats an upside :-D

Might be worth double checking that though.

having been a loyal customer to telewest for 15 years and on the broadband since it first came out i would love to say this is a great deal and VM are great but i can't, the tv does what it does but the broadband is awful since telwest dissappeared. I have had more trouble since april than in the last 6 years added to that we are now capped after downloading 3.2gig even though they won't admit it. thank you richard branson.:x

anyone know if exisiting customers can take advantage of this offer?

Richard Branson has not bought the rights to Sky One..... etc.
Tiscali are on the verge of a deal to buy the Sky programs removed from the Virgin Media TV Packages, with a view to streaming them over Broadband.

Been with NTL / Virgin whatever you want to call them for a number of years now.

Im on this deal which great, didn't realise they were updating the broadband in Aug, thanks for that

I disagree. Your saying they blow sky out the water based on broadband but for majority of users a steady speed higher than a couple of megs is more than enough! (Thats for MOST users...)

I do a lot of downloading, just moved from virgin to sky as the broadband is a hell of a lot cheaper (inc taking into account BT line rental), and though I'm getting a slower download speed, I'm getting a better upload rate than with VM, and its still absolutely fine for every day use.

As for Teleport... yes this is very good from VM but don't think its all over. Sky are migrating to IPTV within the next year to compete meaning they'll introduce something similar... So personally for current Sky customers I wouldnt lock yourself into 12 months when Sky will eventually catch up.

Sky have got a very long term business plan. This is one of the big reasons I switched to them. The 0870 thing annoys me yes, but they have ideas in the real long term and VM make it up as they go along type thing. Course Branson will change that, but Sky aren't idiots...

Price wise, £0.00 for broadband on Sky which, for a lot of users, ismore than adequate (those who browse/email). Now with the Sky+ charge been DROPPED (unlike V+ which will still cost), and good deals on getting the box cheap or free (with V+ charging a good £75 min unless you pay for an extra box, £15 a month), I think Sky is a better option there.

For me, getting absolutely everything, the full package... VM was costing £80ish, Sky is costing £50ish+ BT line rental.

So for people who dont do much on the net but want channels and sky+, or for people that want everything, I cant see VM being better apart from the teleport service which Sky will catch up with.

(And another big advantage for me is speed. I dont see many peoplementioning it but the VM boxes, inc V+ are slow to respond when changing channels etc.. which is VERY frustrating while channel flicking. Sky is VERY responsive. Also, interactive on Sky works beautifully and me being a tennis, cricket and footy fan, I can get lost on a saturday in interactive. With VM though, it reminds me of standard boring tv :P)

nb: all these are just my opinion ofc. I see many people dissing Sky, but so far my experience is as good as vm with cheaper prices. Once its all set up its fantastic. And people have probs with VM as well as Sky setting up wise.. Dont forget people only post about the bad experiences and not the good :)

From what I gathered with my call with them today he has secured the rights to air the shows on his service but not the sky channels. So he can air Prison Break but it wont be on the likes of SKY ONE. Hope that makes sense.

I would def double check that fact when you call them though as I know certain channels are what can make or break a deal for some people.

I am currently paying £85 a month for the VIP package (the one without the mobile phone), may give them a call and see if I can get it reduced.

Nice one!

Thanks.

Looking at this I think this is a standard VM deal that they have always done, if you take out a phone line with them you get free TV with 35 channels and then if you want broadband it is £20 for both. see http://allyours.virginmedia.com/websales/service.do?id=1 for details

Cheers for this, i have been swithering about changing over from BT and AoHell to virgin and i think thi thread has made my mind up for me.

Voted hot!

TBH one of the main reasons I went with Virgin is that I wouldn't need to give any of my hard earned money to Murdoch. I Got 2mb Broadband going up to 4mb in Aug, Large tv package and free unlimited UK calls 24 hours a day and that will do me as i only really really want the Hallmark Channel
#19
I think Virgin are ok as long as you don't have a problem with their services and have to deal with their useless customer support.
Also, from 1st July they're going to start charging 25p to calls to their broadband support team :

Is There A Installation Fee?
#21
I'm with virgin...to keep the cost reasonable (particuarly when you're not interested in their TV offering...freeview is enough for me), you need to call every 3, 6 or whatever months and you can usually get a decent deal (eg had £20 for unlimited calls, line rental and 10 mb broadband for 6 months...now £30 for same for next few months, with (sometimes) 20mb).

Which devil do you prefer to deal with? They are both after the same thing..just go about it in different ways.

Thanks for that info snappy. I will keep hold of the direct line I have for the customer service person I spoke to today incase I need fast and cheap customer support.

Roko: I dont think there is an installation fee. I think one applies as standard but I did not have to pay it when i signed up today.

hey all
i have just finished my 12 month contrat with virgin and am now paying about £27 a month for broadband, tv and phone, however i only get calls at weekends!

thanks Katie

I've just had V+ installed for free plus they moved my existing box into the bedroom for nothing :-D

Very impressed with V+ so far so good.

p.s. ooh and I also got upgraded to the top telly package and they even " credited " my a/c with £20.

not bad eh ?:whistling:

tbh its a good price, but after the merger of Virgin Media and NTL/Telewest, I found that the service we got started to go down hill.

Broadband = 10mb, recently being upgraded to 20mb. Good download speeds, upload isn't so great as other providers. If your a person who downloads, you may find that the upload speed lets you down, as well as only being able upload something liek 0.75gb a day (I've heard as I do get cuts outs whilst using torrents, don't know if its due to this).

TV = Basic channels, pretty terrible. After the sky channels were not licensed for by Virgin, I found that freeview is just as good. If was to get additional channels it'd be with Sky.

Phone = Good, only had downtime once or twice being with NTL/Virgin nearly five years now.

Though for 3 services which you quoted, its not a bad deal. Though if I was looking for a new provider, I would probably shop elseware as the TV channels are not hardly worth paying for, phone is reliable, but probably could get just-as-good-a-deal elseware. For £20 a month you can't go wrong though, can probably haggle a bit better for faster broadband and possibly better channels.

Finally customer service, as I haven't had any problems since the merger, I haven't had much contact with the ISP. However, whilst known under the brand NTL, I found the customer service was DYER. Trying to speak to somebody over the phone about a problem, not at our end was beyond a joke and a waste of time as they will not inform you of any updates or line maintainence to exchages.

Hope this helps,
James

I'm with VM too and the above is exactly right.

Just come to the end of a 12 month deals so all prices gone back to normal, but still charging me £10 / month for V+ box, free to new customers on top package.

Called them up to re-negotiate, and basically they said they could not effer anything, so I asked for disconnections and they just said OK - 30 days notice required.

Called $ky, as I was with them up to a year ago to see what they had to offer - nowt just standard package.

Will have to try gain in a month or so

Note that VM have just introduced bandwidth throttling between 4PM-Midnight for heavy users. Mine goes down to speeds resembling dial-up now. I'm surprised they still get away with calling it 'unlimited'.

Constant modem disconnects too (daily). I guess this is as I constantly download.

Also from the 1st July, its 25p per minute to ring technical support.

Thanks Richard. Come back NTL, all is forgiven.

Have managed to change my package online.
We were paying £40 for tv phone & Broadband but have now managed to get the same for £21.
VM Have confirmed the change by email which I was surprised at as we have only been customers for approx 9 months.
Also did this through quidco but it doesnt seem to have tracked it.

Hope this helps someone.

i just called them and they said it would cost £9 for unlimited calls but i can get them free for3 months but then would have 2 call back 2 c if i can get it free again!? doesnt make sense 2 me!
#34
I have just come off the phone to VM and they said that the cheapest they can offer me this package is £30!!! He would not budge!
#35
And I have just wasted an hour of my life trying to get through to them!
#36
Think how much they will charge with 09 number for a hour long call?
Even with their own system 25p per min`.
#37
you guys are dialling 0800 0730 591 (retentions) right? Called them a few months, did take an hour to get through, but were very friendly and even refunded me towards the cost of the call (called from my mobile)
#38
I managed to get the above for £15 a month... and haggled the install down to £5.

The TV service is the "free" one they offer when you take out other services... personally I prefer the EPG on freeview boxes. So I use freeview instead.

But i use the telephone 24/7 and broadband 2Mb often .... i get 4Mb speeds.

Managed to download DVDs (not Divxs) quite fast.
#39
well, i called last night and they said i can have it for free but i had to call back in the morning for the sales department.

After a long wait etc etc they said i can have all 3 for £30 which is still cheap and i am happy with that. although dont see how some people can get cheaper than others! :(

especially if someone got for £15! thats really good deal!

Here is a story for you with VM .

Basically I negotiated a deal with them & ended up in credit to the tune of about £50 . My next bill was taken from the bank so I rang & complained , I was told it was because the bill was generated before the credit could be applied ! I was advised to cancel my direct debit so their system would take the following bills from that credit otherwise the direct debit would be taken constantly & the credit wouldn't be used up . I did this , received my next bill & was charged £5 for NOT having a direct debit set up !!

I rang again , explained why the direct debit had been " temporarily " cancelled , might as well have talked to a wall , she couldn't understand what my moan was about . In the end I was advised to allow the credit to be used up , re-install the direct debit & then ring customer services to try & get my £10 back from them for the 2 sets of charges that I will incur .

This company are a nightmare to deal with come back Telewest please .
