I'm paying £38 for only 50mb BB & unlimited calls.
So its better than mine!
#2
thats about half price , so its a decent deal depending on how long the discount it is for and the length of time you have to pay full price. if its for the full 12 months then its great if 9 months good if 6 months or less then not so.

I'm paying £75 a month for that exact same package (24 month contract, got the first 12 months half price). So, ye, it's a good deal.

Yes, it's a good deal although probably worth checking to see what combinations of cashback and offers you could get by switching before accepting it. As you may find something that better suits your needs.
#5
There are some great deals to be got with Virgin Media. I'm on a completely different package to this but it suits me. I'm paying £15 per month for 50Mbps, basic TV and line rental/weekend calls.

Edit - Forgot to say this was a new customer deal.

hi chigger1 did u get the deal through virgin phone or did you heave use a specific site?

I just agreed my retention deal with Virgin on the 1st March.

BB: 200mb gamer - 20mb upload (NO throttling, traffic shaping or traffic management)

PHONE: Free calls anytime to 01,02,03,07,08 + 1000 mins to 30 destination USA, Canada, France, etc.

TV: Fun package with 500gb TiVo box (as we have freeview, kodi, etc and who watches live TV these days?)

£40/month inc line rental

you gotta look at what you are using rather than getting everything! The fibre is important so try to negotiate the 200mb gamer as I find with regular 200mb you get 1mb speeds at peak time due to traffic management. Any other questions I'm here to help. Thanks

Best deal i was offered was 50mb and weekend calls at £25 per month. Cancellation notice given and awaiting disconnection in a couple weeks.
#9
Retention deals are so hit and miss with Virgin, best I could get was £38pm for 100Mb BB, multiple attempts etc...no budging past that offer.
didn't really have much choice as best speed I can get through a BT line is 25Mbps :(

i was offered the VIP deal(available to anyone on their website) they got going on at the minute as a retention deal. but for £87pm for 9 months. then £112 for the remaining 3 months. as opposed to the £85 for 12 months for new customers.

i laughed and said i will ring them back to cancel after i have spoken to Sky.
#11
Are retention deals only limited to individual customer spend in the past year
#12
My retention deal was rubbish. They said I could keep my equipment lol. Went through quidco and took the 50mb TV and free weekend calls for 29 less quidco comes to approx 26 per month.... And they are sending new equipment..... Company is a joke

There is only traffic management on uploads, downstream isonly limited for p2p connections.

I would also make sure you are not affected by Virgin's over utilisation in many areas, go to http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Speed/bd-p/Speed and search for your postcode to see if anyone reported issues in your area.

Downloading a 30GB game from steam took over 5 hours with the traffic management.

Another 60GB game only took 55 mins with 200mb gamer.

Take it all back.....Just contacted them again on Chat and got 200Mb fibre, phone and TV for £56pm with free V6 box and free install.
happy with that.
Had to haggle a few times to get the V6 box reduced from the initial £115 , down to £50, down to £15, then FOC :)

https://my.virginmedia.com/traffic-management/traffic-management-policy-30Mb-or-higher.html

"We've got great news for all customers on our broadband tiers of 30Mbps and above. After listening to your feedback, we've decided to stop applying our traffic management policy to download speeds. So now you can download as much as you like without worrying about traffic management slowing you down.

Our new policy is simple:

We only restrict upload speed
Your speed is only reduced while the upload threshold is exceeded. So the speed reduction could only last as little as an hour as long as you reduce your uploads"

Including the cost of a new V6 box and Superhub 3 router, I'm paying £43/month for Vivid 200, Talk Weekends phone package and Mix TV Package.

I have received 70MB broadband including line rental for 12 months for £13 a month. Key is to cancel with virgin and sign up with another provider. The authorisation request from your new supplier will trigger the elite guys in retention - thats where the maximum discount lies. The guy on the phone told me he is going to beat whatever BT offered me :)

Good luck

So if someone has just taken or is about to take a 50mb package can they get the free speed boost to 70mb too?

I only signed up a couple of weeks ago myself and asked about the 70Mbps boost. I was told I could have it free of charge, but the effect of this would be I would lose my agreed discounts so my monthly cost would have gone up from £15 per month to £29 per month - so it wasn't worth it for me. Instead I paid an additional £5 per month to get 100Mbps.

After 56 minutes on the phone have cancelled my account .. Rang as i do early March each year to get Sky Sports / F1 added to my Big Easy TV package , which i do for the 9 months of the F1 season , cancelling again in December .

£31.75 month is the list price ... they willingly charged me £20 month last year ... today tell me no discount .. £31.75 month take or leave .

I pay line rental year in advance .... and get only £5 discount a month off the £33 list price Big Easy .. 50mb , weekend calls and M+ mix tv package . ... took me nearly an hour to get the £5 discount back in the autumn. !! .

Wish i knew how some people get such huge discounts from retentions .. I certainly can't .. he was adamant there wasn't a penny to be given anywhere in my package .

The key is to give your 30 days notice. Then immediately sign up with another provider. As soon as Virgin receive the transfer request, outbound retention will call you. Try to coincide this 2 week transfer date with the end of the month as outbound retention can apply more discounts as they have to reach their monthly targets. Tell them your budget ie what you want to pay.

Start negotiating high with the VIP bundle and ask them how much loyalty discount they can apply. Then slowly move down to the bundle you want with the same loyalty discount applied. Eventually you will reach a deal but always tell them to store it on the notes and take their full name, department and phone number. Ask them to call you back in a few hours as you need to check with your family. When they call you back negotiate a few more pounds off and say you are willing to accept today at your rock bottom price.

Ie they started at £56 then £48 then £41 and finally £40, just be friendly and don't get confused with their off the topic talk to confuse you. Always verify the full deal before accepting. VM customer service is appalling, I should have switched this year but no other provider can offer the BB speeds.

Thanks and good luck

If you give your notice to Virgin to try and get a better deal, if they don't get back to you, can you cancel the notice and stick with them?
#29
lolmonster88

Yes !! as i did last year .. when i gave them notice when they just gave me £5 discount on my package .... after couple of weeks of hearing nothing i had to ring and withdraw my notice !!
#30
Personally I do all my haggling with VM/Sky etc.. via Webchat....I've found they are more open to a deal and you can also save a transcript of the chat for proof when they fail to honour the deal (which they often do)
#31
Uridium .. thank you ... i didn't know they had Webchat .. i did go onto Myvirginmedia first and looked at "contact us" details and saw no mention ...

Yeah it's a bit hidden, usually have to go into BB/TV or phone and choose upgrade my package and its there.

I've saw a few people mention this deal but I can't seem to get virgin to offer me any better than TV broadband and phone for £25 p/m. The deal you have sounds fantastic! How did you manage to get it?

This is only available through a specific department which you must be referred to. You are not allowed to post asking for referrals on HUKD.

So .. 2 days later .. phone call from Virgin this afternoon ... "we're sorry you're going , can we help ?" ... 2 minutes later after explaining the debacle of tuesday discussion ... he confirmed same price as last year for sky sports ..flicked the switch so i'm now going to watch a couple of hours F1 ... and he volunteered the move from 50mb to 70mb speed .

Whilst happy to have got it sorted .. what a ridiculous carry on !! ... 58 minutes of grief a couple of days ago .. the virgin guy adamant nothing could be done ... went to all the bother of arranging cancellation etc etc ... all a complete waste of time and money .
#36
Install done...back up to 200Mbps and XL TV with a V6 box (much same as the old Tivo but WAY faster, it's how the Tivo should have been) all for £56pm....not the cheapest deal on here but I'm happy with that bundle

Been paying £43month for 18month 200meg, Top TV with Tivo and weekendcalls to find my bill has now doubled (Looks like only 18month discount)

Called to cancel unless could sort me a deal and the best he says he could do was £60 a month which is a joke as my friend had an offer through the door for £50 with the new V6 box. Going to call tomorrow to put notice in.

I had similar a while back. They would not offer a good deal at end of contract which is pretty common I think.
I just cancelled the TV package and kept the Broadband as no-one else's broadband is as good as the Virgin 200Mb.

Live with freeview for a few months (or go back to sky on a no contract welcome back 50% off deal) and then after a few months contact virgin again and they will offer you a new bundle deal again.

Just tried to get a better deal

Current package £40/month - Ends 25th May with a £10/month retention discount
M+ TV
100mb Broadband
Weekend calls
with existing equipment (previous Tivo and Previous router)

I wanted to add Sky Sports (purely for the F1)
They wanted £31.75 with no possible discount and no changes.

I enquired about cancellation and they said I can't cancel until the 26th March as 60 days notice. 30 day notification then 30 days to cancel.

****.
