Ummm..sounds like a lot of money but i guess it does cover a lot of things...i'd have to sit down and work out the maths of it all to see if there are savings to be made.

It'll be interesting to see if others think this is value for money :) or not :-( .

When you can get TalkTalk Broadband and all landline calls for £9.99 per month and if you had the top Sky package and a decent mobile package from those here on HUKD you'd get a lot of change from £125 per month imo so I don't think this is a good deal at all (unless I'm missing something?) - sorry
#3
BTW this has already been listed on HUKD

I signed up for this package yeterday for £85 a month.

Seemes to be the same with the exception of the mobile.

Maybe I'm missing something.

I now have more channels than I know what to do with.

Yeah i'm with TalkTalk - i don't really know why they get so much bad press - they have never given me any problems (although it took them 2 months to set up initially) and they are EXCELLENT value for money. I think i will stick with them and i think i can live without sky.

Good point but is Talk Talk actually worth £9.99 per month? I have my doubts, I currently pay a fair bit for my Broadband and phone with Nildram but since i work from home I think £25.99 is a (relatively) good deal for an almost flawless service.

Can you get HD TV channels with Virgin now?
#7
Thats cool, obviously if it not a good deal then sorry about that. I does seem to include alot though. Also you dont have to pay extra for the Virgin+ box, sky box is £300 and the virgin box is HD ready with no extra subscription, also the virgin box will record 2 programme and you can watch a third.

I am also not convinced with the Talk Talk service as it has had constant bad press on watchdog and various other programmes.

This may not work out to be that great, but I dont think Branson will give up easily.
#8
not sure about the £125 package (altho it does seem very good) but i might just go for the 4 for £40 package... i currently pay £40 for landline and BB so to get TV and mobile thrown in... can't be bad!
#9
BTW - if you can't get cable where you live then you can only get a phone/broadband package with Virgin

The Virgin + box is a rebadged Telewest TVdrive. Although its capable of a HD service, there will be limited content at the moment. BBCHD and some VOD HD content.

I built my own HTPC PVR with HDMI output, so can access BBCHD over freeview for free. I have VOIP router linked up to my home phone so don't pay any line rental except for broadband, and am on a cashback deal on my mobile which over the year means I have paid nothing!

So £125 a month for this? Or will I stick to £14.99 Im currently paying? Hmmmm

Just been on the phone to virgin and found out a few things....
I'm not after the all singing all dancing VIP packages (£85 & £125), but would be interested in TV & Broadband.
The virgin website mentions High Def TV, but nothing about extra costs.
If I were to go for the 2 for £20 package (TV & BB) I would get standard def TV (standard cable box, not the V+) and upto 2MB BB. Not looking so attractive now. Add onto that £25 install fee. Looking worse.
Now if I want High Def I would need the V+ box which they charge £15 per month for. OK, so Sky charge £299 for their High Def box (which you then own and not rent) + £10 per month.

All in all, when you start to look at the services and costs it becomes very clear that virgin are not offering any real value over it's competitors. Therefore the deal gets a big thumbs down from me.

Oh, and in case you didn't know, virgin media are in fact NTL / Telewest under a new name. New name, probably same shockingly bad service that made me switch from NTL to Sky in the first place!!!!

Mobile (O2) - 500 mins & 900 SMS - £25 per month
Home Phone - £11 per month
Broadband - £22 per month
Full Sky package - £42.50 per month

Total: £100.50

So I'd be £25 worse off if I went with them !!!
#15
:giggle: I think my deal is getting slated.

I dont think you can get this package cheaper if you buy elsewhere. I am in no way trying to promote Virgin, however I genuinely think that they are a very good company.

How much is SKY+ with the HD option a month with the cost of box? The total for a year is £1001. Which is £83.42 a month - That is just the TV package.

So you are getting Broadband, landline and mobile for £41 a month.
#16
I know NTL have always had a bad reputation, but with Telewest I really couldn't fault them. According to insiders, the reason why the rebranding only happened now and not 6 months ago when the deal went through is that it took this long to improve their customer service systems. I guess we won't know if it's true until a few months down the line when we've all had a chance to test it.

As for the deal. It doesn't look great I'm afraid. I've added up my combined bills and for exactly the same service (500 xnet mins on my mobile), 10mb broadband, telephone and Sky HD (full package) costs me £77pm. Ok, I don't have unlimited talk on my landline, but I don't think it's worth nearly £50pm.
#17
£125? - Ouch!
#18
They may be starting at a high price point to offer discounts and look like they are giving a "great" deal.

NTL/Virgin are still having snags getting the PVR/HD box out. I know of 3 people who have had installations cancelled this week.
#19
My virgin broadband is appalling - and I've looked round the internet a bit, and I'm not the only one.

I would like to have a nicely discounted "one stop shop" for all this, but that price doesn't look anything like good.

:-( Does no one like this deal. On the bright side its still snowing  I love snow, I dont like travelling to work in it, but it looks cool
#21
Do you still have to pay £10 a month for the PVR like you did on TW and NTL?

If you're with Sky, why not consider one of their BB packages? You'd save evem more money then.
#23
That is quite frankly a RIP OFF

No of course not, don't be silly.............................you have to pay £15 extra a month!! :giggle:

I think wait a while there prices will probably drop. As someone said earlier they probably starting off high so they offer great discounts later on.

I think its £10 a month if you are on the XL pack or something like that.

Virgin HD+ hasn't got the same content as Sky HD!!! How many times do I have to write this?

All you'll get is BBCHD and some VOD channels, have a look on the channel listings under HDTV if you don't believe me. Sky will be keeping their cards close to the chest, and won't be giving up their HD channels unless their forced to.

Heres a quote from the site for those who can't be bothered to look what their getting;

* Virgin TV on demand
Watch high definition programmes and movies with Virgin TV on demand. This service comes with our V+ service and is a library of programmes that customers can access whenever they like and pause and rewind just like a DVD
* High definition broadcast channels
Various broadcasters are planning to launch high definition channels, with our V+ service we offer the following:
o BBC HD
Includes live sports coverage, plus spectacular series like Planet Earth as well as other documentaries and dramas.

Just had their e mail. They offer a huge variety of packages. I want cheaper phone, mobile and bband. Not interested in TV bits packages.

Am with Telewest aka Virgin now. Looks like I need to start looking about for better deal again...ho hum

thanks for shaking me out of complacency.

If your already with Telewest, why don't you get a VOIP router/seperate VOIP box to link with your existing router then ditch you landline rental, and get dirt cheap call rates.

Then sort out a cashback mobile deal seperately through Dialaphone/E2save etc going through Quidco to net yourself even more cash.
#29
To me it sounds rather expensive. It is much cheaper to buy sat dish and receiver (maybe HDTV one if you interested in BBC HD - Pace 'box goes for roughly 100 quid on fleabay). This is one-off payment and there are plenty of FTA channels (not Sky ones).
Then use VoIP to get free UK and European calls.
This mean you can get their BB, ditch landline and get mobile phone off them for tenner. Overall cost is something like 30 quid/month (pessimistic figure, given recent threads on how to get good deals on NTL/Telewest).

Or am I missing something?

I was half expecting this to turn into a MasterCard advert parody with the last line being...

Virgin Media Deal : Ripoff :giggle:

Anyway, I've not gone into the finer points of this deal but what happens if say a customer doesn't like one part of the deal and wants to cancel that? Eg customer gets fed up with coverage etc of Virgin mobile and wants out of that but keep the rest...
#31
ChrisUK,

im the same,

Mobile: £50.00 pm
TV NTL free....
Broadband £20.00 pm
Homephone (TALKTALK) around £20.00

so only spend 90 a month! u can download anyhting else u want to watch via ur PC, dont need no fancy Virgin + box!?
#32
For all of Skys faults, at least you just pay £99 or £49 for the Sky+ box and thats it if you have Sports or Movies. I cant believe Virgin/TW/NTL can get away with charging £15 a month just to rent it from them, what a con.
#33
I have just changed to the £85 deal and think it is great value. I was paying £80 - £90 a month and that is without free calls, additional box and movies and sports.

You also don't have to pay an extra £10 a month to rent your TV drive anymore with this package.

You are not comparing like with like. Is the broadband 10mb? Do you get free calls? No TVDrive, so no HD or recording ability. No additional box for another room either.
#35
£125 is around £50 more than it should be imo. Shocking.
#36
The £85 package would be a better comparison for what Im on, not actually that bad a deal considering the V+ and the extra channels id get, plus 10Mb broadband. I think we pay about £60 now, but with no PVR or movies and 4Mb BB
#37
remember that they will introduce new deals in a few months time, they always do and they are generally cheaper then when they started! if not chepear deals then they will add more value, but its too much headache i would say switching over u gota change tv provider (if your with sky) change ISP (headaches with them normally!) install a cable line if u aint got one! then change the phone! oh and your mobile number?? (PAC code headache!) too much i say!
#38
The £125 package includes

Broadband Size: XL (10mb i believe)

TV Size: XL (all chanels including movies and sports)

Phone Size: XL (any calls anytime included)

Sky Sports and Movies

Additional V set-top box

V+ HD set-top box

Talk International

Talk Mobile
Virgin Mobile

Pay Monthly Mobile

Any handset from our range - including Lobster 700

500 minutes

1000 texts

VIP bonus - £60 free airtime voucher
So i think all things considered not a bad deal.. but still above what i want to pay... id rather go for the 4 for £40 option which has 2mb BB, Talk unlimited evening and weekend, 65 channels (not including radio channels) and a sim card to put in my existing phone (and you can keep your old number!) which has 300 mins + 300 texts per month.... this covers everything i need for twhat I'm paying now as i pay £25 a month for BB and £15 per month to BT so for no extra money i can have more TV channels and my mobile included :-D YAY!
#39
Anyone voting cold on this offer is quite frankly a retard!! :p

The £85 option gives you.....

Broadband Size: XL (10MB - Cable boradband. NOT variable speed broadband like ADSL [BT & Sky])
TV Size: XL Every channel including ALL Sky Sports & ALL Sky Movies
Phone Size: XL FREE Landline phone calls 24/7
Additional V set-top box
V+ HD set-top box with massive VOD library apposed to 'crap all' with Sky
Pause live TV - 160GB hard drive
Record two channels while watching a third
Already a lot of HD content availble on demand
Richards promise of HD channels as soon as possible
Talk International - Really cheap international calls
Talk Mobile - Really cheap mobile calls!!

Its an amazing offer, no doubt about it.

The £125 off is just that but includes this too...

Pay Monthly Mobile
Any handset from our range - including Lobster 700
500 minutes
1000 texts
VIP bonus - £60 free airtime voucher

So you all seem to be forgetting the £125 has the mobile contract too.

If you dont want mobile, the £85 is amazing value as it is.
#40
IMO I certainly don't think its a good deal.

If you have the money to blow each month thats fine, but its not a VFM deal by any stretch of the imagination.

It may depend for some on how good this VOD HD service is, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.
