Virgin Mobile Free Nokia 5800, 200 Mins, Unlimited Texts, Unlimited Internet + 100 Mins To Other Virgin Phones £15.00 Per Month (18 months)!

Just rang up and spoke to Virgin Mobile, I explained that I was with T Mobile and that they had offered me a free Nokia 5800 for £15 with unlimited internet usage (as I'm not overly bothered about how many minutes were included as I have another phone with more allowance but wanted a phone for my fella so he could check sports and stuff on the net) and could they match or beat it.

I was told straight away that yes they could match the price, and given the details of the allowance package, which I think is fairly decent for the price and phone that you get.

200 mins any network, any time calls.
Unlimited texts
Unlimited internet
Plus 100 minutes to other virgin phones (I assume they mean other virgin mobiles).

There is a £4.88 delivery charge but I think this is a brilliant deal, the total (including postage) cost for the whole contract is £274.88.

The website (below) shows that to get a 5800 with internet access is usually £18 per month, plus around £15 for the phone with less calls and text allowance, so this is a decent saving on the website deal and you get more for it.

http://www.virginmobile.com/vm/viewProduct.do?productId=52529F7C-FE8C-4EAD-B6B2-21A5AEA092F1&catalogue=

Hope this is of some use to some of you who want a cheap, but decent mobile contract!

Valid point, thanks. You;re right, I think the quidco is exclusively for online sales. :-(

This is a good deal, thought I had got a good retention deal from vodafone last week when I got £15 per month for 500mins, 100txts with free Nokia 5800. But mine only came with free internet and free gps for first month.

Is GPS not free all the time? I've never been charged for using it (apart from if it connects to the network for map data etc.).
#7
Cracking deal...always worth calling sales to see if you can get a deal, I will try for this tomorrow.

GPS is always free, but if you don't have the maps stored on your phone (the nokias should come preloaded with UK maps), then you will have to use the internet to access/download them on the go.

Which number did you call for this deal?

Sorry I popped out, yeah that's the only downside but the savings you make/extras you get are worth more than that anyway!

I actually got put through from calling 150 on our virgin landline, but they just put me through to sales if that helps.
#12
Ah ok, I'll do that, because I'm with Virgin. I'm wondering if the 5800 will be any good with data speeds for the internet though...?
#13
so £270 in total for a poxey 200 mins a month. Wont last 4 days!

Just pick the phone up for £100 to £130 off a certain auction site if its just the phone your after. I dont see how this is a 'cracking deal' otherwise sorry.

Because there are people like me that only text and use the internet? 200 minutes would probably last me TWO months, let alone one!
#15
but surely you can get unlimted txt contract wth a cheaper phone for less?

My friend has the phone, and he's a real phone geek and he says it's the best phone he's ever used/had. I have the N97 and really like it, which uses the same OS so am assuming it will be very similar. Also, with the N97, I have found I've barely used the slide out keyboard as the on screen keypad is perfectly adequate for what I do for the most part.:)

200 minutes, plus unlimited net and unlimited texts... plus you get the extra 100 minutes - granted it's virgin only but still not bad.

It's not just the phone he wants, he wants the net usage (as mentioned in intial post) so buying one from eBay will not suffice as he'd end up spending the same per month for using the internet, plus calls and texts on top for 18 months... add onto that the £100-130 you're laying out for the phone (second hand?) and surely you can see that's a saving?

These are some of the 'offers' for internet on pay as you go from a few companies.

http://shop.o2.co.uk/tariffs/PAY_AND_GO/benefits/Text_and_Web#Text_and_Web

By topping up £15 per month, no free phone, no call allowance! - same cost!

http://www.o2.co.uk/explore/tariffs/boltons/paygoboltons/o2web

£7.50 bolt on, no minutes or texts included, no phone either. - £135 plus phone cost of around £150-180 (just checked eBay sold listings), so costs more... without any calls or text cost on top.

http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobile-phones/price-plans/pay-as-you-go/boosters/

£2.50 for 5 days... obviously going to mount up very quickly (30 days is £15) ... and as above, nothing extra included.

I can't find anything for Vodafone or Orange in the way of offers, but as with all the above you can expect to pay a huge amount per megabyte of usage (eg O2 is £3 per mb of data usage) which would take you over £15 very very quickly.

What if you don't want a cheapy basic phone? Also, I don't think you'd get anything for much less with internet included AND a free phone of any kind. Even T Mobiles cheapest net deal is £18 per month (combi) for 100 mins and 100 texts on top.

T Mobiles solo deals only start with internet included @ £20 for 600 minutes (on offer at the moment, usually 200), UNLIMITED texts and FREE Internet on your phone... but again no phone with it.:)

i cant seem to get the same deal :(
the best she can offer me is, free 5800, 200 mins, 300 text and no internet
anyone else got this offer?
if not how do i get this deal?

I'd try calling back and saying you were offered it elsewhere for this price, which I think is how I got it... it could also be down to who you get on the phone of course (which seems typical of mobile phone deals via the phone in general) so ringing back may also be an option.

So you have a Virgin landline - You should have made this clear in your posting.
I think this same deal may not be available to everyone. - Virgin at home (broadband, phone or TV) customers can always get a better mobile deal.

I'm not sure this is the case though, as we didn't mention that we were already with virgin media... and from what I can tell, it's a completely different part of the business. Only the person who put us through would really have known we were with virgin?!

Unlimited web access for 30p a day You only pay on the days that you access the Internet from your phone

So, for 30 days usage is 9 pounds .
Plus 15 is 24 per month.So is not so cracking deal,a ?

Always Virgin,T-Mobile,Three are "smart" companies which I don't like ...now you understand why....
And I dont mean the terible coverage, terible customer service, klp.

I asked if £15.00 would be all we paid inclusive of the internet usage and he said yes... I wouldn't have posted this up without being sure that's what he said on the phone. :)

I am on T Mobile and their service is excellent by the way!

OP I would call and double check this. I think this is correct re the 30p per day charge.
I called them this morning and quoted being a media customer and makes no odds apart from the packages without unlimited web.

The deal you have posted is £22 per month and I called them today and that was the best they could do - even that price is a great deal in my opinion. I then called T-Mobile to match it and they could do 800 mins, 500 texts (more than enough for me) and unlimited web for £22.50 per month.

Fair do's if you really did get this but I really can't see how and think you will be paying 30p per day web which would equate to £24. The deal I got from T-Mobile would beat that. I dont understand why mine was voted cold and the very similar HTC Hero ones are scorching?? I also got the first month £22.50 free but didnt take that off the monthly overall price as the DD will be £22.50! I'm actually pretty miffed. sorry for my tangent rant!

Check for your own sake OP!

Got mine on Virgin when I Upgraded a few months back and I am paying £18 per month for 150 mins 500 texts and unlimited data (1 gig per month) so this is a good deal....

Phone is good but
Apps from nokia have only started to get going.
Maps are decent but only 90 day trial for sat nav voice
Music is superb in fact this phone is apparently one of the best sounding just buy some decent headphones and you will love it...
Camera is good for a 3.2 megapixel...

There is only one thing you have to watch out with virgin, I got charged for using the internet at 30p a day even though it was unlimited as part of my deal, I complained and they was putting it right, one month later and still not sorted, another phone call and I got my money back and a free month..
Overall very happy with coverage and service though

Well I repeatedly asked to confirm this deal, and if we have been mis-sold it there will be trouble... but I really don't think we have been, he was very certain as I had seen the 30p per day internet, and I referred him back to the inclusive price confirmation many times. I always make sure what people have said when doing things like this because I wouldn't want to have a credit search on file for something unnecessarily, and if it has been mis-sold then it's him who will be in trouble, since it will be shown on the account that he authorised it etc. :)

I find the Ovi service to be brilliant on my N97, there's not as much as the iphone for instance, but this is still a new service and there's still plenty of choice on there in my opinion.

I think one thing with virgin, is that they'll generally always compensate etc if you have problems (from my experience anyway) and that is one reason we wanted to go with them for this.

OH is looking forward to his new phone (and net) so that stops him whinging at me that I have a better phone and a contract with net access (whilst doing nothing to solve the issue by getting one himself, I even had to find this for him haha)!:-D
#29
Wow ClaireDC, must be for real then, hope I didn't sound patronising.
As I said, 800 mins etc from T-Mobile was a bloody bargain and I'd got that by quoting the £22 Virgin deal, I never thought to then call Virgin and quote the T-Mobile one! out of interest, was the T-Mobile quote you told Virgin true? ie that would be a deal in itself too.

There is a 7 day calling off period so I could always try my luck and cancel T-Mobile. Hmm

i recently cancelled my contract with virgin but they did not give me this deal i had been with them on contract for over a year the best they offered m was the £18 contract which i could easily buy off the net....GGRRRRHH:x

Same position here. You have to watch it with Virgin too. My girfriend was on a contract which we discovered, after the term of the contract, was worse than the rolling monthly contract so she switched. But they failed to tell her that she lost all of the credit for the month she was currently in. They should have advised her she would have been better to wait until her current month was up and then switch to the rolling monthly contract.

Now she faniced a new phone and there was a £15 per month for 200 mins 300 texts with a 5800 for 18 month contract. We rang to see what sort of deal they could do explaining we could get £30 cashback through Quidco. They said they couldn't ...then rang back and offered us £15 credit. I still explained we were better off going through Quidco but they held firm.

The £15 offer ran out last night - but if we had gone through Virgin we would have had an additional £15 off BUT lost all the credit on the current month my girlfriend was in. Going through Quidco my girlfriend would have had 2 SIMs for about 3 weeks so could use the credit up on her old one first PLUS got another £15 through Quidco.

It doesn't make sense. Virgin will have to pay out hard cash to Quidco but only give 'minutes' which cost them nothing if they dealt with us direct.

If anyone manages to get the deal the OP posted then I would be interested but it doesn't really seem to apply to someone already on Virgin Mobile without a Virgin home phone.

In the meantime I am hoping O2 come up with good deal and then she can move onto a decent supplier. Last night when she rang up she couldn't get the bloke in India to understand the logic of the bad offer compared to going through Quidco. When I switched contracts with O2 they credited my account with the unused minutes from my previous contract... that's what should happen.

Does this mean Virgin use Indian call-centres?
Having left 3 I do not want the same again.
Can't stay with 02 as their signal strength is too variable.

Yes - they use Indian call centres but we think it it mainly if you ring in the evening (UK time). If you think O2 is bad then I think Virgin may be worse - but it will depend where you live of course.

My girlfriend's Virgin phone won't even pick up in the local pub which is a problem when I want to contact her to pick her up from a girls night out. O2 is the only network to pick up at her brother's caravan in Scotland. I don't think we have come across a case where her SIM has picked up a signal and my O2 hasn't. Never had an Indian call centre either with O2.
#34
I have not had a problem with O2 staff but the signal at work and at home cannot be relied upon.
At work I was getting texts saying I had voicemail but the phone never rang. At home I cannot get data even with full signal showing. I have a vodafone phone for work so I can compare the signal strength.
The OH switched to Virgin from T mobile and has not had a problem.

You do indeed need a network that can be used where you live and work!

I presume you have checked your phone rather than the network? I have never had the issues you mention.... but I only use Wifi for data not 3G.

Anyway - back to the OP - has anyone other than the OP had this deal because it looks pretty specific to me to certain criteria and not an offer anyone can get. I hope I am wrong.

Just rung up and as a Virgin Media customer they can offer me the Nokia 5800 or the Nokia 5530 (5800's little brother) on £15 per month, 200 minutes, unlimited texts and 100 minutes to other mobiles. no data usage though. i'm going onto vodafone via e2save.com where i can get same phones, same price with 300 minutes and the possibility of cashback making it effectively £10.62.

That's a clearance phone though on a 24 month contract instead of a brand new one 18 month - plus the hassle of claiming cashbacks.

Yes I phoed up today and got same deal....Well worth it. You do need to put a bit of pressure on though to get it for that price. They will tell you its only 150mins and 500text but hold out and you should get this deal.
Phone Virgin and ask for Scott thats who I spoke with.
Lots of luck.

Sorry, been having router problems.

The phone came, and there was no mention of the data package but when I rung up and told them I'd been told there'd be inclusive data they put it straigt on and apologised that there had been a mix up!

Overall, we are very happy with this deal and I still think people could get it as we were asked if we would like an other phone on the same plan when we rang up about the data! :)
