Look. I'm a total newbie at phones having had some no ties virgin contract for ages for £10pm for 300+300 (via virgin media). So please feel free to tell me why this is a poor deal.

But in comparison to the competition it looks good.

Yes, it's a 24-month contract. But otherwise, 800 minutes is good, and everything else is unlimited (well, 1GB is fair use policy, I think on t'internet).

I'm thinking of upgrading from my trusty nokia 6300. And I'm no fan of itunes so to me this is a superior phone to the iphone 3GS.

As I said, feel free to shoot me down! Just gently, if possible. And give a reason if you can!

ps Quidco = £30 cashback

NB: CORREX MADE TO FAIR USE. Thanks first poster.

Was just looking at same deal....things to note...possible £30 quidco and I think its 1gb fair usage policy from what I could see

Good point. Forgot to mention quidco. Will add.

So I guess my next question is ... 1GB - is that just nothing? I mean my whole outlook pst file is only 1.3GB and that's got a lot of stuff in it... It's not like I'm going to be torrenting on this thing! I'm just thinking internet use and email.

This works out to £720 over the 24 months. The T-Mobile £10 deal is a lot better. It works out to £404 (with a possibility of £40 discount if you ring). If you need more minutes then they have other plans which can beat this for example:
600 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited internet for £20/month and £130 for the phone (again possible discount) working out to £610. This deal isn't even that cheap, it's just one for comparison

I'm sure I've seen 18 month offers totalling to £450-ish on here too

agree with previous poster, seems expensive compared to T-Mobile deals

the deals are on buymobilephones , they do work out at 450

Ok. Thanks to all. I can see that there are a lot better deals out there, really.

I'm shamed and embarrassed. Apologies.

Don't be ashamed. You have learned that there are always better deal than Virgin Media. This goes for everything else they offer too. I've never seen a VM deal which could not easily be beat by a couple of other providers. VM must make all their money by natural selection from ppl who simply don't compare anything (i.e. who have too much money).

Sorry if my post seemed harsh - it definitely wasn't supposed to be and there's no need to apologise to anyone, or to be ashamed.

Your reply wasn't at all harsh, Mr B.

I'm a bright person - but always find the plethora of mobile deals hugely confusing. Plus I've a tendency to stick to what I know, wrt mobiles, bb etc. So it's good to have it pointed out that this isn't a good deal (as I said in my first post!)

Sweet reply, though. Thanks. HUKD is one of the friendlist online communities I know!

Maybe it's time I said goodbye to Virgin for good...

Actually i think your existing deal with VM is pretty good. I am also on the £10 for 300 mintues and 300 texts. Its such a good deal that even VM dont offer it any more so you may want to think before you give it up.

Over a two year period you are only spending £240. You could always buy a separate phone if you want to upgrade.

Only downside is that this does not include the internet access but VM do a flat rate of 30p per day so if you dont use it every day then you dont pay for those days you dont use it.

All depends on how much you intend you use the internet.

If you didn't mind a 12 month contract, 300 minutes, Unlimited Texts and Unlimited Landlines/02-02 Calls for £10 a month and £25 quidco on 02 simplicity.

But no phone? So that means an additional approx £400, no?

Sorry if I'm being dense!

No phone no, but if you want the latest phones contracts are better. Else buy a phone on PAYG and use SIM only.
