Virgin trains have just released their cheapest (£1) tickets for the London-Manchester route up until March 20th. Get in early to book cheapest tickets, trains only take 2 hours 8 minutes.

Just booked 2 return tickets for £8 total.

___

Please note guys, you MUST board the train at LONDON and MANCHESTER to use these tickets. Don't buy them thinking you can board at Brum and travel to Manchester, or Brum to London because they'll just wind up charging you for a new ticket.

The trains generally go through Stoke which is the quickest route, although occasionally go through the slower route past Crewe, and depending on which route they take can stop at Milton Keynes or Watford. But they NEVER stop at Brum. if you are trying to get on half way through the journey, check that there is a manchester train to your station at the particular time! ive been caught out before and had to hotfoot it to another station!

A promotion with a site that can't handle the traffic may as well not be a promotion at all.

Thumbs down and shame on you Mr Branson.
#12
the problem with mobitix is it is a mobile phone service only and one ticket per mobile phone. You and a friend want to go - you need 2 mobile phones and pray you get tickets together!
#13
Can I ask how you found this out? Did you stumble accross it or are you on a mailing list that lets you know?
#14
still cant get on the site
#15
I booked tickets to come back from the Carling cup last night. £2 for me and my girlfriend! Brilliant!

Site under maintenance

This site is currently under scheduled maintenance until 07:00 hrs.
We apologise for any inconvenience.
#20
...yep, still borked.

This is just another one of the scams where rail companies can say: "We offer really cheap fares". The trouble is, even when you do find them you can't actually buy a ticket.

Then they'll say: "Because no one bought he cheap fare tickets the public must think agree with higher fares."
#21
Site is obviously gonna be choca right now. Id wait till about 2 or 3am.
#22
Website is hosted by thetrainline not Virgin Trains as such!
#23
Up and running now... but do we HAVE to use the MobiTix service? Thats a bit ****, TBH.

Depends where you're travelling from, as on some routes there is competition or there are alternative routes - eg. Birmingham to London via Chiltern line, or virgin's west coast route.

To check where a train stops, use this website - though beware that 'breaking' journeys is not often allowed, or travelling short

http://www.transportdirect.info/web2/home.aspx?repeatingloop=Y
Click on the icon, once you've found your train, and it shows where it stops at.

#34
voted cold as its a darn hassel for 3 ppl to travel down and keep mobiles on the ready.
mobiles with the tickets received via wap need to be presented. Was easy to just print them out!
They have no sympathy if you accidently deleted the ticket, battery run out on your phone etc...
Wanted to go wit my dad to London but he doesn't have an upto date modern phone!!!

I can't believe your saying it's 'a darn hassle' to carry a mobile phone and get it out of your pocket when asked for your ticket!!!
Most people have a mobile with them 24/7, and most people manage to keep the things charged up.
Why should they have any sympathy if you accidently deleted it. It's exactly the same as losing/forgetting a paper ticket. It's your fault.
I think it's a great idea, it's just a shame the website is so useless.

Is it just me or are all the fares £7 - £9? Maybe I missed the boat (or train) on this one.
