Virgin will try to offer existing customers a V+ HD BOX upgrade for £75 if you keep your current box and pay £5 a month rent for it.....DO NOT ACCEPT THIS!

SKY are offering a SKY+ HD box installed for £49(ish) and you can use that as a bargaining chip.

Go through to cancellations and tell them you wan to leave because you only have one TV and therefore do not need to keep your old box and pay £5 a month for it.

CALL VIRGIN UPGRADES ON 0845 650 4545.
(Important - Don't do your bargaining with the upgrade team - just see what they offer first and then when you don't like it, ask to be put through to cancellations)

Remember: You can go through with your cancellation and set a date of 30 days - this can be reversed by telephone any time in those 30 days, at no cost.

They tend to understand this and will immediately offer the upgrade without the £5 per month rent (and they'll take away your old box).

But don't let them get to the offer until you've menoined that SKY will do the same thing for £49 and you've always wanted SKY. Then slip in at some stage a little wording like "to be honest I'd prefer to stay with Virgin to avoid the hassle of changing over but for the £25 difference and the fact I'll be getting SKY, I can manage it".

In some cases they will offer the whole upgrade for free.

Myself and three freinds/relatives have done the same thing in the last week and all been successful...they are losing customers to sky at the moment and are extremely keen to keep existing customers.

I also asked for the new Samsung box and not the older version of the box as I have samsung tv etc, they were happy to oblige.

Seems like good advice.

we got ours last saturday free and free per month lol and we have quite a basic package...i called 150 and went to cancellations-just said i felt we needed a cheaper package and she said no chance as we have the cheapest deal...but could offer free v+ and no monthly so i accepted.
#3
Definitely worth a try, i've personally never known them to refuse at the risk of losing a customer.
we just upgraded our existing package after purchasing a new full hd tv, we were paying almost £80 anyway so went for the vip package to get the v+ box & the additional box for upstairs plus larger broadband.
they offered us V+ installation for £35 which is the standard fee. Made sure we asked if this was definitely for the V+ installation as this is the charge for standard and didnt want to be billed more after the fact but the rep said yes it was for v+ & it was an offer.
Not sure if its applicable for everyone, or if they would offer this only on all existing package uprades but worth asking. £40 better off in our pockets than theirs !

Got mine for free and free install ... cost extra £5 per month but managed to shave off £3 from bill so only £2 extra.

Just rung them and started moaning, made up a story that somebody called me to offer me a V+ box for £75 pound.

I have M+ TV, Evening and Weekend calls and 10meg Broadband and pay £32.95 a month.

They have now offered me XL TV, Evening and Weekend Call and 10 Meg Broadband with V+ Box and Free Installation for £41.45

Or my package with Free Installation on V+ box and New Samsung box for £37.45

I kept on that Sky can give me box for Free etc and they didnt want me to leave.

What shall i do? surely its got to be worth upgrading to XL for £and extra 8 pound a month?

Any Suggestions???

How does this compare to Sky+?
I have Sky+HD at the moment + Multiroom, I am paying around £63 just for all the TV packages,1x HD subscription and 1 x multiroom subscription.
I would be intersted to know the cost of Virgin HD box with sports and movies+ 1 box upstairs compared to SkyHD???

Impossible to compare as some of the channels you receive with sky with Sky+HD you cannot get with Virgin so it will never be a like for like comparison i'm afraid

I'm still on the original 3 for £30 deal so I now have V+ HD Samsung BOX, XL TV, 10MB broadband and evening weekend telephone.

SKY can't get anywhere near that.

Virgin also have a massive amount of free HD and TV on Demand content compared to SKY.

Maybe, but from what I see with Virgin TV listings there is not alot of difference, apart from HD channels but I have heard they will be adding alot more in the near future.
As anyone got Virgin HD TV with sports and movies + an extra HD box upstairs, if yes what is the cost per month, also what storage do you get with the HD box for recoring from Virgin?
#14
I just rang and they offered it to me for £49 straight away. I said I'd seen Sky+ for £29 and they matched it no questions asked. I reckon I could have got it free but I'm happy enough.
I'm on the 3 for £30 deal with TV XL for life from the deal when they scrapped Sky 1 temporarily.

And that's all it is - advice.

Its not a deal.

Oh! No! The Deal police arrive...just in time to see that at least two people on here have already been offered a great deal by Virgin since the deal was posted this morning.

Therefore me thinks it's a DEAL and a good one at that!

And my bill for the following is :-

tel line rental
talk weekends
itemised billing
TV size XL
BB L (10mb)
V+ HD Box (samsung) - Main one
V+ HD Box (samsung) - Additional one upstairs (charged at £5 per month included in the total)

Total £43.00 per month - Installation was £79 for the 2 boxes (1st was £49 and 2nd was £30 after haggling - both fitted on the same day)

Had these fitted last week by the way , I am an existing cutomer and as far as I am aware received the biggest loyalty discount that they were prepared to offer me at the time.

hope this helps ;)

They say the same thing to everyone, here's what I ended up with:

Stay on the 3 for £30 offer
Line rental
Evening and weekends calls
TV = XL
BB = 10MB

Free V+ HD BOX the new Samsung one, new router and no additional monthly costs.

I'm still on the 3 for £30 currently have the free xl package promo that was running over xmas, and hoping to keep it on. What sort of offer would they be likely to give me for keeping it on? Is it worth ringing them? Wouldn't mind getting a free v+ box but absolutely rubbish at bargaining  Should I just say sky have offered me the same package for same price and with a free sky+ box and hope they go for it? Been on the same package for 4 years now!

Well that was a waste of a phone call....they would not offer me anything whatsoever, woman on the phone was very abrupt stating I am on the very best deal they can possibly offer me, being L tv, phoneline with free weekend calls, and BB @ £33.50 a month surely that can't be right?

are you in 12mths contract? if not call them back for a breakdown and compare to what others have? if you up the package more discounts can be added...if i lowered the package i saved very little as they would have removed discounts.
What did you want? the v+box? or just a discount?
#26
No out of contract since sept as we moved a year prior to that hence tying us in with 12mths until then. I would've like a v+box or even to stay with the xl tv but to keep that on would've taken me to £45 a month

Just read back, I did read it all earlier just didn't take it all in
Would be worth a try although the free calls day+night would be wasted on me as I have plenty of free mins on my mobile that I don't even use! Tbh only reason I have a landline is for school/doctors etc etc to contact me on should they need to, coupled with the fact that I'd only be saving £2 a month by taking it away.
Let me speak to my OH he's just nipped out and see if he'll go for that and then I'll pm you for details if need be? Would I go through to cancellations?
Thanks for your help,

Can confirm that this works!! I rung 150,i am just out of contract, got through to sales advisor, told them i was interested in getting a HD+ box,he told me it was £99(or maybe £90) for the box but they would do it for £49,no mention of the £5 to keep the exsisting box! i asked if that was the best offer they could make me,he then waffled on that he was on sky and was leaving them,i told him i was looking at the sky website and that they could give the same deal for similar price so why should i stay with virgin if they cant give me a really good deal as a loyal(10+yrs) customer,he then said but we do give you a £22.70 loyalty discount,i replied its hardly a good discount if sky can match it for new customers,he disagreed and waffled on more about virgin being a better service-customer service, download speeds etc.. I was just about to say can you put me through to cancellations and he said he would speak to his manager to see if he could get me a better deal-and hay presto he came back with the manager will waiver the £49,so they are coming to fit my new HD+ box on 4th Feb-Happy Days!!

Thinking of ringing Virgin back before the 4th and asking for the Samsung box,is there much difference between the old Virgin box and the newer samsung box?
#33
I've been with them 9 years and tried this as a bargaining tool.... no good with the people at 150... lady was almost rude and very impersonal (maybe she was actually a robot)

Asked for disconnections and got a very nice lady, who downsized my internet and phone, both of which I hardly use. Still on XL TV, keeping the old box which will be re-located, £49 installation fee and my bill will end up £14 a month cheaper than now.

£49 fee is added to my next bill, but a guy in work just asked me for my customer number, as his Dad signed up to Virgin this week, so we each get £30 off our bill. The new box is only costing me £19 then as I see it. Result!
#34
Great thanks to the OP, H&R added :)

I tried my best to get V+ HD for free, but they were not having any of it, called twice, best deal I got was a £49 install fee and free monthly subscription.

I also asked for the Samsung box, but they are no longer doing those, apparantly the only difference is that the Samsung box is slightly smaller with different cosmetics.

I look forward to watching HD, it's about time I got onto the HD band wagon

after 1 unsuccessfull call to cancellations i phoned 150 again and stated i wished to cancel, i was offered the v+ box for £30 on my first call so i went away and rang back,i stated i still wished to cancel and was offered the box free , i had to downgrade my 20 meg broadband to 10 meg and they then threw in the xl tv package and a phone line for £39 a month so pretty hapy with that. Thanks to the poster.

I am a disabled person with speach problem so very nervous and shy so haggling a real problem for me. I am confused at reading this forum as to how I can get the best deal so I hope someone patient can guide me PLEASE. My current bill states

Telephone Line Rental 05 February - 04 March £11.00
Talk Unlimited 05 February - 04 March £7.95
Phone & B B Bundle Saving 05 February - 04 March £-8.00
Broadband Size: M 05 February - 04 March £20.00
T V Size: M 05 February - 04 March £0.00
Total £30.95
Telephone Usage Charges--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Total telephone usage charges £7.64

Ive added 7.95 talk anytime package in december but as i was away for 3 weeks this bill was lower on call charges. I used to have a 2nd box in bedroom but cancelled this a year ago but still have the box. Not on my Jan bill for some reason.

Because of my disability at times I am confined to my bedroom. I would like a V+ HD? box in the living room and move the normal box to bed room - cant afford 2 V+ box.

Can anyone guide me to what the best deal I can get and how to go about it. I tried before xmas and only ened up with 7.95 anytime phone bit as my calls were averaging £16 to £/20 month.
I would like to upgrade my TV package but to M+ at 5.50 ot L at 10 - I cant affors the xl package.

Thank you in advance for your help
banned#37
Might see what they can offer me too. Currently pay £17.50 per month for line rental, talk weekends and 10mb Broadband which I think is quite good.

Not working for me im afraid...

1st phone call got the offer of the v+ box for £49, said they couldnt go any lower, ended up giving notice to cancel. Called a second time to give them a chance to change their mind and got their offer down to £30 for the v+ box, but the disconnections person i spoke to said he couldnt go any lower.

Either i havent spent enough in the past to be 'valuable' enough to get the box for free (5 year customer, but rarely spend outside my free allowances), or the disconnections person told me that every disconnections person has a 'personal credit' they can apply to customers to retain them, and that he had more credit than the first person i spoke to which was why he could offer it cheaper... sounds like nonsense to me (ive worked with teleseales people before... ) but maybe its true.

I called up optimistic i might get a free v+ box and a router based on comments above, so was quite surprised that when i turned down the initial offer of £49 they immediately took my cancellation and ended the call !! Not desperate to keep my business.

At the moment ive left my notice on and am thinking about virgin vs sky vs BT.

Yeah i read this yesterday, and tried it straight away it worked they gave me the box £49 and upgraded me to the xl package. which unlike sky is free they charge (£10) for about 35 channels which you need the world package to recieve all of them... so basically about £58... just for tv..... add broadband and hone works out over £65

Virgin do my broadband 10mb (fibre optic cable), XL tv package HD, including ESPN HD(which is £12 on sky) , and phone with free weekend calls.... for £42......

they also told me that Virgin are bringing another Five free HD channels.....

its a good market at the minute for getting a good deal.... or a better deal......

although was looking through Argos and Freeview are bringing out free HD 2011... so that may prove interesting.....

( ebuyer.com are selling 32" Lcd HD tvs for £236 delivered..... if ya looking)
#40
Just received my Samsung HD V+ box this morning  I have upgraded from the standard box so now have the V+ options, finally I can record stuff now.

Need more HD channels though, 7 does seem limited.
