I wish people would give a bit more detail.

Eg. The number called; whether they dealt with UK or overseas call centre; were they new/existing VM mobile customers etc etc

Just to give us some context
I called them just now and was told that there is no discount. Do you mind me asking which number you called on?
Anyone else had this?

I didn't reckon the deal to be that cold so quick

It's because they normally offer this or more when you cancel the mobile contracts, but it will help someone :)

Virgin stopped doing retention deals
Cheers, going sim only so this is one to consider.

Having just spent what feels like a quarter of my lifetime on the line with Virgin (actually something like two hours over more than six calls, starting on Friday), I've now learned that, unlike every other SIM I've ever had in my phone, Virgin doesn't support texting to landlines or receiving texts from landlines unless it's a BT line (Openreach does not count as far as they're concerned, even though every other SIM, etc.).

Glad I tried first with a PAYG SIM. I'll see my credit and allowances out, and one more airtime voucher I have ready for next month, then it's PAC time. :(

Slightly off the topic but guys who are with Virgin and make international calls then have a look at my thread HERE. You can use your free minutes to 0870 numbers and make FREE international calls to over 80 countries.

As I have learned today, just because Virgin offer you unlimited/2500/5000 08 minutes does not mean they're going to let you use them. I had a contract which used just a bit over 2000 minutes last month and they have just forced termination citing "excessive usage of 08 numbers". I asked them how it can be excessive when the new £10 contracts offer 2500 minutes rather than the usually vague "unlimited" and they wouldn't budge.

It seems that now not only do we have to question what unlimited really means but even when you are sold a specific number of minutes (and I guess texts and data) you may not get to use them!
Just got a deal for 2500 mins + unlimited texts and 2gb for £5 a month for 6 mths with a rolling contract with just 1 month notice then £10 a month after - will cancel after this time
Also on one of the old unlimited contracts and called up to see what offer I could get. Currently paying £10.50 a month including a £8.00 discount. Any changes mean I lose the discount (which they claim they don't do anymore!). She was quite open to say that Virgin are effectively getting rid of unlimited data contracts and to expect more price rises in the future, the claim is that we cost them tooo much! Turns out data usage for me is average 2.5GB with a peak of 4GB for one month only. Unlimited was nice as it meant I never had any worries about any overcharge. Time to hunt for a new contract, hopefully with 4G!
Yes it's a real shame they don't take each call received on a case by case basis and be more lenient with those of us that use a tenth the data of those that they are trying to rid themselves of, time for a change of provider as a result.

Thanks. So anyway one of the best Monthly Sim Deals for ages and it gets minus 125?

deal is definitely good but only problem is virgin mobile runs over EE network. Had it been running over Vodafone or even O2 I would have gone for it.
secondly I had ordered this last time but still waiting for the sim since last 6 months. every time I log on to virgin mobile I see a statement about an error... wonder how come no one at virgin mobile has attempted sim order audit.
Did you not think to chase it up or something? You think it's just going to turn up? After 6 months?
This site is astonishing sometimes.
Lol... No.. .Never.
I'm on Virgin and have 250 mins unlimited text free to other virgin mobiles and 1gb £5.You can get better off them.

I doubt the wife & I will quit our rolling monthly contract with Virgin. Had for 30 months or so now.
£8 pm UL Texts, UL data, 150 mins UL calls to Virgin.
Use approx 5-8GB a month, Inc tethering.
Love Virgin
I had it at 7 then they put the price up to 8.50.
Actually it's getting close to the ee sim only price found on here and that's with 4g,working roaming and call divert ability.
Thinking about jumping ship...
But to be frank, you are wrong.

Sorry to upset you therudders but Andy is right. In fact some have it even better. I get unlimited everything (small print actually states something like 3000 texts, 3000 mins and some large figure for data I don't recall) all for £5/month. In truth I hardly use the phone so Virgin probably didn't feel they would lose anything when they gave it me. By the way AndyRoyd, you're not Emma's husband are you?

I can see why there is less deals submitted on HUKD. Alot of peeps voting cold without submitting better.
I think this will be my very last post. There is nothing cold about this deal. It might not be superheated but its a good deal non the less. And no other provider that I have found is offering the same deal for the same price.
don't take it to heart. i've posted plenty of deals that have gone positively arctic because people vote for a variety of reasons that aren't actually based on the deal itself.
i posted a deal from the sun newspaper that actually made you a £10 clear profit and it went to something like minus 249 degrees, but then someone posted another sun deal that involved cheap petrol and it hit nearly 800 degrees, so it's horses for courses really.
Thanks, But I think I will hang up my coat with HUKD. There are many intelligent members on this site, but its those who are narrow minded damage its image. No better deals offered yet voted cold.

Its an ok deal but its Virgin - terrible experience and only 3G

£15 Unlimited + Unlimited 4GB
on EE is £17.99 if you have another sim contract... Retentions claimed this is normally £20.99 to me last night and would do it for £16.99 - so I opened for the PAC code. I think I'll go to this deal - since Virgin is on EE carrier and they're the best network for my location.
Virgin use EE network but they are nowhere near them. I am with them since last 8 months and frequently loose signal. I cant make call or use internet even when it shows full signal and hence have to reset network to make it work. I am going to ask for PAC this afternoon and buy out rest of the contract as its unusable at most of the time.

I had same problem on my previous phone and current brand new iphone 6s..

i had their original unlimited everything package and, sadly, i pushed it one step to far to try and get it below £10. I got through to someone in retentions with the usual 'found a better deal, gimme my PAC' speech was unlucky enough to get the one person who took me a little too literally and did just that and cancelled the deal and the discount i had, forcing me to re-join at the non-retentions rate.
i suspect i'd still have it today for around £11 if i'd kept quiet.
Woops. I'm still on the contract that I posted years ago. Although it has 'jumped' from the original £5 to £10.50p now. Although it's unlimited everything so not going to be phoning to complain any time soon.

£10.50 for unlimited everything is still a steal whichever way you look at it. I suspect my one would have probably been in the region of about £12 or £13 realistically if I'd have kept quiet.

I've been with virgin from the beginning and always found then to be good on customer service but latterly it's been going south....long waits, cutting off mid transfer and now the tarrif I've had for over a year or so is too old and so they cannot apply the discount. I always get offered dearer costs for less. In the back of my mind it started to get worse when liberty whatsit took over. Not sure how long I will stick with them

Free roaming incoming calls in European Union @ Virgin Mobile

I used Sainsbury's ( piggy back off Vodafone) whilst in Belgium as 3 don't allow it. Calls are free to receive, it's 8p per minute to call UK and local calls are just 8p and 5p per mb, that's also a great deal. I've used 3 on several occasions in France, unless your sat on top the Eiffel tower, their network partners ( Orange) are slower than a French snail going backwards.

Edited By: paw2304 on Aug 19, 2015 13:24: spelling
3 like home is quite misleading

The website says..

"You can use your allowance to call and text the UK and use your data without paying a penny more.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What's included?
 All calls and texts to UK numbers (within your standard allowance). 08 numbers are included in your standard allowance. If you go over your allowance, or don't have one, calls to 08 numbers will be charged at up to 16.6p a minute"

Calls to freephone 0800, 0808 and 0500 should remain free if you take your home rates with you.
For
DAMNOME
Better off with 3 then
Not at all, this is EEA wide, simply do two rings for a missed call to your UK numbers and let them call you back.

Data wise 3 may be worth it, but free incoming calls EEA wide on pay as you go is a market leader.

Simply used in conjunction with WiFi and email its a very cost effective solution for where 3 cheap roaming does not apply in EEA.

Who needs gigs of data on a package holiday really ?

Whether you want to check the weather, tweet a picture of the view or update your Facebook status and make everyone green with envy, it’s easy to stay connected. In the EU, you’ll need a Travel Pass. Elsewhere, just access the internet as normal (but don’t forget the costs of getting online abroad are different from the costs at home).

We’ve got three Travel Passes for you to choose from:
10MB - £1.50
50MB - £6
250MB - £20

To get a Travel Pass, just text BUY plus the name of the pass you’d like to 23456 (e.g. ‘BUY 10MB’). They last for 30 days and start straight away, so just buy one when you’re ready to use it. You can also check how much data you’ve got left as you go along by texting STATUS to 23456, free of charge.

What you pay for:
Browsing online. (Of course, if you’re travelling in the EU, all you pay for is the cost of your Travel Pass – and you’re all set!)

One phone, incoming and email.

I use a old Android for tethering where I need it with a local data deal sim and WiFi where 3 roaming All In One cannot be used, free incoming EEA on a free payg sim is unbeaten in the UK market.
Is this just a case of, the foreign calls are not fully billed yet, as it may take longer than normal for them to show on your bill.
EEA - European Economic Area, includes Switzerland and the EU so no need for anything other than EEA ;-)

Heat added because of the price but only 2000 mAh battery with 5" screen, anyone know what the battery life is like?

I have had the phone for a few days and I've been impressed so far, there are one or two problems with the phone though. Although Facebook Messenger is compatible with the phone it won't download, you get an error message during the download. This is a problem the phone is known to have, I have read about it online. Also the mail client won't let me add my Hotmail account but it will allow me to add other email accounts. It asks you to install a certificate for the Hotmail which doesn't seem like an easy task. The screen is acceptable for the price, in terms of performance it is adequately spritely in operation. With regards to battery life, it seems OK so far but I've not used it that much. Overnight charges will be the norm. It almost lasts until the end of the day with moderate use in my experience, it could do with a bigger battery. Overall the phone is very good for the money.

This seems to be a pretty good deal if you are not concerned about 4G & tethering. Is there any reason it's not attracting more heat? Is it because of hate for the parent network (EE) or something else?

Take a look at the review Computeractive did for it. Was not something I would purchase based on this review. Computeractive have been around for years and are a well trusted magazine with good reviews.

I'd rather trust the review in the lastest PC Advisor issue, or the latest Android magazine than one in the mag for grannies and grandpa's!

And I DO need a micro sd and removable battery.

People also need to remember this is not a £700 handset, "merely" a £500 one.

On the same sim deal you posted with Virgin, £5 pm rolling 1 month contract.

It's cheaper to buy the phone in the long run

No as I brought mine from a seller (not a business) that didn't want the upgrade and who posted it to finish at 3am. If you do a quick search on eBay you will find "auction" G4s go for around that price rather than the the Main Street price of £500+

Finally got it sorted, I phoned and said I was leaving because I had a whole account full of tariffs that I couldn't switch to, and when I rang the advisor just offered me rubbish deals and told me the others were mistakes. He switched me to it, and started it immediately as I'd been trying so long to get it working.
Still can't upgrade in my account, I'm tempted to just go elsewhere too.
The first time I called them I said I was thinking of leaving them as I've seen a few good deals out there and the guy instantly gave me my pac number and then started looking at what other offers he could tempt me with.

He offered me either the 1000min 3gb data deal for £15 or the unlimited deal for for 20 odd.

I then called them back to find out how long I have to use the package number and the woman on the phone said 30 days but then wanted to see if there was something else she could offer me as she said that I had build up a lot of loyalty point with them as I have had a mobile contract with them for over 8 years and I have all of the best packages with thair other services.

she then come back with with the 1000min 3gb data deal for £14.

I think I will end up using this pac code and switching to another network.
Inked666
phoned them up today and the best they could offer was the 3gb 1000min deal for £14pm

Did you try to negotiate or ask for a PAC code straight away??

Ringing to negotiate, puts the ball in their court from the off.
Better off calling to cancel from the off. Do a bit of research before calling and look up some alternative sim offers if they ask why your leaving (they will). I usually mention, 3's PAYG offer or Giff Gaffs £5 tariff. I also state I'm cutting back/refining my bills and can only afford £5 p/m.

Good luck!
phoned them up today and the best they could offer was the 3gb 1000min deal for £14pm

been with Virgin since NTL days. Never had any issues with CS. Always been excellent.
Sticking with my Sim only deal as such a bargain.

virgin mobile shocking service and no 4g and crap discount for virgin media customers gone downhill over last 2 years me and partner left better deal on proper networks
+1.

Noticed a SHOCKING decline in the quality of the Virgin network over lat 12-18 months. Can't wait to get out, can't recommend anyone to go it.
The redemption is really bad I bought 735 with the fitbit flex 3 months ago and I am still waiting for it to arrive have called them a few times and they are saying they are waiting for stock.
If someone has managed to get a good deal and lets you know then it is easier to get the same deal as I did 2 years ago . My discount with Virgin was £11 per month.Never a problem with reception as they use t-mobile ,orange and ee air waves .

I have Lumia 620 with Virgin very satisfactory during early days .Stopped working on 3G now probably due to so many update s in 2 years, factory resets don't work. To make phone calls I have to use 2G, very good on Wi Fi .My contract run out now waiting for a new model to last me 2 years . I think 735 is good but old now and Microsoft paying more attention to low end 640 and probably will release newer higher end phone soon if not I'll go for newer Sony or Samsung.

My experiences with Virgin Media haven't been that bad, online support has always been helpful and available. They don't currently have 4G though (afaik), so for me this deal isnt that great as their 3g service is pretty poor in my experience.
V.M completely screwed our entertainment package up along with the sim deal, the guy who sold us the package was reported to OFCOM for mis-selling, V.M - several months later have still not contacted us via their CEO dept - could have literally ruined us because of this sales guy, so not only are the sales team engaging in illegal sales but their customer care is "as per usual" RUBBISH..... People moan about SKY but we've not had to have a tech out once, make a complaint once, everything works.... with the many many years we were with V.M we had at least 1 x tech out a week, several calls made to Virgin India, prices going up and package shrinking, they are now far more expensive than SKY and the prices are indeed - going up again.... Wouldn't take V.M for FREE, unreliable and more hassle than it's worth!
I've only been with them a year and tbth I've encountered my first major issue today with them which has led me to a 180 and agree wholeheartedly with you. I signed up for a MSE 12 month contract and called to cancel today - customer retentions are stating I'm on a 18 month contract, despite having online chats telling me the notes on my account state I'm on a 12 month contract. So I've been strung along since day 1 by at least 3 VM reps. Having said that, my experience is nothing compared to yours.
Is there a good all rounder TV/Fibre/Phone company out there? I've been looking to get the BT infinity deal.,

Yep, that V.M sim contract was supposed to be a 30 day rolling contract (have it all in black and white via email) but like everything else it was screwed up and I was put on either 12mths or 18mths - can't remember now, even still to this point they have not resolved the catalogue of errors... That sales guy was class, when i emailed him to complain about all his **** ups he said, "I only have 1 hour before I'm off on Holiday" and that was that...

Just to add - I went with TPO in the end, unlimited mins and text, 6GB of data (3G) - £3.99 P/M for 2 x months and... £14 or £15 P/M after that - 30 day rolling contract too. Had no problems either, pretty sure after the 2 months at the cheap rate are up I can call them and get a better price ;)

I already have a sim with 1gb, 250 mins but when I ring them to ask if I can have another sim with the same data + mins they cannot help?
I think this is poor, anyone have any ideas which dept I should ask for? As renentions referred me to sales who said they can do the same deal for double the price!

As I said previously it is one thing to get these deals in theory but another to actually get Virgin to apply them to one's bills.
In October 2014 wife and I have both got deals which reduced our £10 tariff (250 mins, 1Gb, unlimited texts) to £5/mnth. HOWEVER nearly every month since one or both of us have been charged £10 and have to phone up to get £5 refunded.
Every time Virgin assure us that it has been PERMANENTLY sorted out but I just notice that after one correct month my wife has again been charged £10!!! She's just getting ready for ANOTHER MARATHON wait trying to phone Virgin.
I hope others do better than we have.

I couldn't agree more. I had this problem for the last 6 months. Really got fed up with chasing them to get my bill and tariff sorted.

They have just recently upgrade all their
billing and account computer systems and luckily my account now shows the £10 monthly discount. It never had this showing before, even though I was assured I was receiving it.

Maybe worth trying again with customer services again. Glad I persevered.

Currently on 600 mins unlimited text and 1gb data paying £5 p/m.Rang up today to see if I could change my package for less mins and more data for the same price of £5. After a few mins of waiting they offered me unlimited mins, unlimited texts and 3gb data a month for the same price of £5 a month. Worth the phone call, happy chap!:D

can I please ask how u got that? and what department did you talk to? I called few times and they offer me same rate as new customer and I have been with them for years. thanks in advance

Just rang to see if they could swap my tariff for something with less mins but more data. Specified that I could only afford £5, what I was at at already paying on my retention deal. Came back with the current tariff for £5. Couldn't grumble!

First time I got offered this it never went onto my account or kicked in on my renewal date. Had to ring again and got put through to another department. Sorry but can't remember the departments name.

Good luck.

[quote=HUSBANDKHAN] Although virgin are denying this. They do have the authority to do it. Also postage is free. Once i have sight of the paperwork will scan it up.
Can you please provide a reference number or invoice which I can provide VM, so that they can match this deal. A couple of years ago my friend had earlier got a good bargain for Galaxy S4. They refused me at first saying that it was impossible to get such a discount. But when I gave them his contact number they matched it for me :)[/q

Somebody tried this and were still refused.
more info please :-)

Bought it for 119.99 on the website. Received the handset yesterday, but it has a weird vertical blue line persisting when turned on, close to the right of the visible screen. I've called Virgin and they say they'll replace it. Let's see what happens.
Thanks for this, and Virgin refunded the £10 difference to debit card

Got mine today and very pleased with it. As you say above, the stock home screen is quite horrible. I've installed Nova Launcher and it looks 100x better
Is yours unlocked?

Performance is very good.. very responsive. I know it's less RAM, but will try and push it's limits with some games and will report back tomorrow.

Screen and speakers are excellent also. A lot brighter than the N4, and thats only on 30% brightness.

Just this Now Launcher (NL) that's really bothering me at the moment. After as bit of reading, I think I need to find an APK for the Google Experience Launcher (GEL) and then Disable NL.

Anyone know of any cases and screen protectors for it?
