I just left them and they asked why. Told them I was offered a better deal from BT and gave them the details/link when they asked.
No counter offer was made, which was stupid on their behalf as I hardly used any of my 2500 minutes most of the time and even my data use isn't that high. I'd have expected a better offer after a few years of me being with them.
If they had offered me 4g while letting me keep my 0870 inclusive calls I'd probably have stayed.
I've just seen the £20- tcb cashback but already ordered. Is it worth cancelling and doing it again?
Have used Virgin Phone and Media for years never had a problem and whenever I have asked for a retention deal they have always obliged. Not sure there is a package elsewhere that is much cheaper than this? I don't mind Companies making a wee profit!
Not virgin but EE but I was told in March that I wouldn't get an rpi increase. Don't believe salesman crap even if they don't know they guess that you won't get an increase absolutely shocking
I'm paying 15.23 for the 14.50 EE 32gb deal interesting when that comes up in august
Does it allow tethering?

Been this for ages now but also better deals granted not always with the roll over around.
I am not sure if there are deals with better data on offer for the prices set by Virgin.
Also a 30 day rolling means you are not tied down and can wait for a better deal to come around.

You are kidding aren't you? Just a few examples

Adding this to the basket, it looks like it's £4 a month, but the first 12 months are free.
I'm not sure if this phone is worth £79, so they are making some money on this!

I would imagine they are making some money on this, otherwise there would be no point in them selling it, they are a business after all!

Just got my first bill through, covering the period 29th to 30th May... for £10.
That's right. They're charging me a full month's line rental for 24 hours.
And I still haven't received the SIM card. But they're very quick to take the money!

Ordered Sat 27/05/17, 10am SIM still not arrived. Anyone else still waiting?
currently in a uk city, my 3 sim gets 40mb through my phone and 37mb from my laptop when I tether. my virgin sim gets 47mb through my phone ans 0.2mb through my laptop when I tether. tried this on two phones. not sure how but are Virgin limiting tethering?
Getting an error and the time is before midnight..

Our technical boffins are doing some important work behind the scenes to improve the way we do things around here. But everything will be back to normal soon. Promise

Should have ordered earlier :(

How is this hotter than Vodafone?
You get slower web than ee proper
Can't divert calls
Customer service is pretty dire too

i know it uses EE network but why is it slower?
Lots of similar deals available - either £9.00 per month (without redemption) or £6.99 with cashback redemption.

http://mobiles.saynoto0870.com/show.asp?hs=simcard&price=0&network=&mins=3000&texts=&data=gb&lr=&contract=&sortby=

Edit - Actually, if you really need 5GB the cheapest showing is £10.49 after cashback redemption

So TCB is now showing payable, but only at £12 not the £45 as advertised, the ****. I've opened a dispute but really angry, so underhanded. I took screenshots of TCB showing £45 so will see what happens...anyone else encounter this?
My contract of this offer began today. I seen the window in the store window I went in to get it last month. I have had a text saying it half price for 6 months. I rang up to confirm, it's only 5.50 :) for 6 months

Anyone knows if Virgin allows calls over wifi? Signal in my house is rubbish so it's a great feature of EE.
Also, do they do any sort of wifi you can use on the London Underground system?

Far as I know Virgin does not facilitate call over wifi

How did you manage that I was told by 3 different staff that I could not have 0870 with 4g no matter what. Even offered to pay extra on top so I cancelled my new sim and asked to stay on my inclusive 0870 deal even though I only get 3g.
After a mix up due to my SIM not getting processed, I've got this for £9 p/m as long as I don't change the tariff.

'Detentions' ! Lol - you do feel like a school kid way they treat you!
Well Vodafone were there usual yearly disaster & disgrace for me.
Agreed 4 phones retention deal at £13.50 for 12GB data/unlimited texts & minutes via live chat.
Turns out they only put one phone on 12GB and changed me from my current price of £13.50 to £32 - and didn't do anything to the other 3 phones at all.
Phoned to explain problem at the weekend - adamant his live chat person did the right retentions deal & just not updated on my end yet. He agrees my contract end date is in 2 months still..... Kept having to point out Vodafone do not do 2 month contracts. He told me to wait for my next bill even though all 4 phones are on one bill and one phone was different to the rest.
He agreed to £30 compensation after 60 minutes as one phone couldn't be upgraded till yesterday due to it not yet being in the'upgrade window'. He was useless and I knew more how their systems work.
After hanging up to him, the other 3 phones all got 12GB data and moved info the £32/month plans. He never said he was going to do anything at all, and agreed the price would be £13.50.
Phoned complaints yesterday and spoke to a UK call centre who immediately saw how wrong they had got it.
Vodafone could never promise £13.50/month - it's a 58% discount and my account is limited to 50% discount. She saw the live chat and had to add a huge amount of amount credit to:
1) make to the difference to the £13.50 promised over 12 months, over 4 phones
2) for the additional payments on bill as they had put me on data upgrade plans, not retentions deals hence my bills this month works be a lot higher
3) Apply the £30 compensation that I was promised at the weekend that he never applied nor made any record of.
Apparently people in Cairo customer services are going to be in a hell of a lot of trouble but the UK person was competent and honoured what was promised to me - and could see just how much they had screwed up the retentions deal.
She even didn't transfer me to upgrades to honour it, because she said they would never agree to over £150 account credit, so did it all herself.
Overall, they get it wrong every year and only their 50% off retentions keep me there!
Wow

I could have been on the phone to Cairo for 3 hours and wouldn't have got any further though! I repeatedly asked to speak to a manager after 60 minutes, and he kept saying "But Sir, everything is in order". He eventually offered £10 instead of a manager, to which I refused. He then asked what it would take for me to hang up, and I said £30. He went to speak to somebody (??Manager!) and said their highest offer was £20.

I said no thanks, I still want to speak to a manager. Less than 2 seconds later, he replies:
"Fine. £30 it is".

And there's me thinking... But you just said £20 was your highest offer!!

It was all so comical if it wasn't so terrible customer.

Oh well, as long as you can speak to someone in the U.K. via complaints :D

[quote=mith] Just renewed via Vodafone detentions

Well EE gave me a rubbish retention deal. 8gb for 13.49 or 10gb for 15.00Not good enough.
They're OK, but should be improvements to be had. Just renewed via Vodafone detentions for 12GB at £13.50/month (unlimited minutes & texts).Depends how much they want to keep you.
Yeah it's a rubbish retention deal when you can get better offers elsewhere. Apparently that was a generic retention deal and he tried selling me the benefit of EU mins when he already asked if I use abroad (none and not likely in the near future). Think I'm going to virgin as they have rollover data too.

mith - I'd haggle with them , so wait few days and get back to them , speaking to someone else may mean better deal

They sent me a new sim I got it 5 days laters with a new number too which I don't want so they rubbish really - got 14 days so will cancel unless they they give me a better deal , I've haggle for years with them I feel like I'm in Istanbul

More like the 5th month free, given the speeds that they pay out, but still.... heat.

Haha totally ;)
Ummi
can you tether/personal hotspot?
I did try ringing to ask but the lady didnt understand my question.

Yes works.

I was tempted by this, I asked on chat and they said strictly according to T&C, you cannot tether, but they also said unofficially you can do it and will get away with it as long as you don't take the mick. So I probably wouldn't go for them, personally.

Really tempting but i dont wanna loose my current 0870 numbers with virgin if i change tarif
If you stick to any of the 3g tariffs and don't go for 4g then you keep the 0870 numbers.
I have their 20gb for £15 with rollover. I rang to ask about it being capped. they said they could only cap it to £50....
I was stung by this. I think mine was capped at £100 but that's way too much. I asked to have it reduced but they wouldn't.That was some years ago so things may have changed.
Keen on getting this for the kids, but read that you can't cap costs, is this true?

thanks for the comments, since I am new customer they didn't offer lesser I think.. I think I have to negotiate with them after a month again :)
Then again, they were easy to negotiate with so you can probably get this reduced in a month or so. They offered me this deal for £10 after I said I'd leave
I pay this price for 5000 minutes, unlimited texts and 20GB 4G data. honestly not the best value to buy this one
I'm paying £12 for unlimited text, calls and virgin landlines, 6gb data. Rolling 30 day sim only contract btw

just called 789, got through to retentions/loyalty support. This deal does not exist!

I called back yesterday morning while i was waiting at my GP's and they confirmed the deal for me. I asked if they could email me any confirmation of the tariff but they couldn't. That said, they've reassured me of the deal on four separate occasions since i posted this deal for you so I'm pretty confident with it now.

I guess I'll just have to wait till my 18th March cycle refresh to post some proof.

Btw, did you also get the "looks like it's time for an upgrade" comment from the automated voice when you called up?

Cool story bro. No one else stands a chance though

I've had 4 numbers for over 10 years. Called to sort out a minor overcharging issue, and afterwards lady said retentions wanted a word. I didn't ask for anything, but he said I could go from £12 for their (new-ish) top package (20gb of 4G etc etc) to £5. Did the same on other 3 numbers too; and the upcoming changes are showing exactly in my account. So OP is correct, I never understand why random people on here seem to doubt everything unless you get a sworn affidavit from all 4 of your grandparents

Whats the coverage like? I am on 3 at the moment and have unlimited texts and messages and 8gb data for £16.00 pr month and looking to get the price down but the data up
I personally find the coverage to be fine.
I was an O2 customer for many years, until their 3g service became poor in my work area. I tested Virgin as they used the EE network and that worked great for me. I have been using the EE network under various names, (Tmobile, Virgin, Orange and EE), for 5 years now and have no complaints.
I just move around for the best deal and currently am using the Virgin 20gb £15 sim.
Lets see what they offer me. I just had a text saying they would call soon to discuss a new deal as current one expires end of April.

Cold from me the 3 preloaded sim is £22.50 one off payment and lasts a year, no credit checks or contract.
The 12gb preloaded is better all-round more flexible unless you specifically need Ee network or 2g functionality which would be too slow anyway. Cold from me

Remember to keep an eye on BT. Currently on their effective 62p per month deal from six months ago for 4gb (£10pm with over £110 in Amazon vouchers and cash back). All paid out perfectly within a couple of months.

Three I think have one of the best no hassle data deals at present. However if the OP can't get network coverage then this point is mute. For others that may be interested you can get 12gb of data for £23. This lasts a whole year so think of it as an annual SIM rather than a monthly SIM. It can be tethered and used in a tablet. Once the 12 months is up or all data is used then just pop in another SIM from same deal as this is cheaper than topping up the old card. So just to confirm there is no monthly allowance with this SIM, it is not 12 months at 1gb per month, it is one years worth of 12gb data, use as little or as much as you want to use each month. You can receive calls and texts to the SIM number however do not try to add credit to these Sims in order to use for voice calls. It will convert from a data sim and hence become a normal monthly SIM. This is a data sim and data sim only.https://www.mymemory.co.uk/SIM-Cards/3/3-PAYG-4G-Trio-Data-SIM-Pack-Preloaded-with-12GB-of-Data-for-Mobile-Broadband
Three also have a 24gb SIM deal but I can't see any available from stockists at the minute. This works out cheaper per GB and will likely come back in stock over next few months.
These sims can also be used abroad and are great to use for data in dual Sim phones together with a bargain voice and text SIM in order to reduce your monthly mobile bill greatly.

Yes, this was a great deal: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/three-payg-trio-data-sim-preloaded-with-24-gb-data-28-40-amazon-2543727
Pity it's no longer available...

Make Big Phone Savings with Virgin Mobile

Virgin itself has been around since the early 1970s, when it was founded by Richard Branson, but it’s mobile phone arm is much newer. In fact, Virgin Mobile UK was formed in 1999, when it became clear that mobiles were a crucial part of everyday life for millions of Britons.

Virgin’s innovation was to offer what it called “virtual network” services, which meant that it leased its network space from private operators like EE. This has enabled it to focus on providing other services, like handsets, contract deals and customer support, instead of dealing with the nuts and bolts of providing connectivity.

Now owned by the American group Liberty Global, Virgin Mobile provides state of the art 4G connections across the whole of the UK, and also constantly offers new discounts to entice customers to switch.

Where to Buy Virgin Mobile Products

Virgin Mobile (under the parent company Virgin Media) operates a large number of physical shops across the UK, as well as an online store. If you want to buy your phone in person, you can find the closest outlet by using the Store locator tool on the Virgin Media website. If not, head over to the online store at store.virginmedia.com and start shopping there.

Products Available at the Virgin Mobile Store

When you visit the Online Store, you’ll find plenty of mobile related products on offer, including:

  • Smartphones – Virgin offers a wide range of phones, from major brands like Apple, Microsoft, Sony, Samsung and LG.
  • Pay Monthly deals – Plenty of phones are available on monthly payment plans, with no upfront payments required. Most of these plans include 4G phones, with added data deals included as an enticement to buy.
  • Pay as You Go deals – If you want to control your day to day mobile phone spending, you can go for Pay as You Go packages, which include 3G devices from major manufacturers. Most phones come with a small bonus top-up to get you started.
  • SIM Only deals– Includes Pay as You Go SIMs, Pay Monthly SIMs and Data SIMs for tablets. These packages often come with features like data rollover, free WhatsApp messaging, 4G connectivity and thousands of free minutes. The SIMs supplied can also fit all major smartphone models, so are a good option if you have a phone that you love, but want to switch networks.
  • Mobile Broadband deals– Phones can be supplied with a Virgin Mobile wireless device, which connects to local 3G Wi-Fi networks and creates a 30 feet wide wireless hotspot which can accommodate 10 devices, including smartphones and computers.

Basically, Virgin Mobile provides a comprehensive range of mobile phone services, including SIM only, Pay as You Go and monthly contract packages. All phones come with insurance as standard, and there’s a wide variety of deals. Always check to see which offers apply to the phone or SIM you are interested in to ensure that you get the best deal.

All phones, and devices can be sent to you the very next day by courier, again at no extra charge. Note that all deliveries must be sent to your home address, not a place of work.

  2. The customer service team will then lead you through the returns process and organise your refund or exchange as quickly as possible.
