Just got EE to price match that deal for me, and added a sharer sim for another £12 for my daughter to use.
So have upgrade to £20GB across a shared plan from me paying £23.99 for a 6GB deal Unl\Unl + £10 for my daughters sim with ID Mobile for 4GB and 500 Mins\Unl Text deal. Content that the data is doubled between us and saved ~£7 a month and don't need to deal with ID Mobile any more. Happy with that for another 12 months
Anyone used Quidco with this?
I did a web chat to EE a few days ago (before I got this deal) and they said they can't offer anything close to this. For the past few days EE have been calling me back trying to get my custom. Today they said EE 4G speeds are double Virgin speeds. After a bit of research it seems they're flogging 4G+ which is only available in London. Bit naff for EE to flog 4G+ when I can't get it in Cheshire.

Just cancelled my sons existing contract and was told by the Plusnet guy that once I've used 3.5gb of virgin data, they will throttle to 3G speeds for the other 16.5gb. I've looked at the virgin fair useage bit and that says you will get 4G throughout. Is there anyone already on this that can confirm one way or the other. Thanks
LOL - They said exactly the same to me ... blah blah. In my mind I was just thinking 'Yeah right, sure buddy' .. I've 3 existing Virgin 30 day SIMs already, (all bumped up to this deal now and have had no speed issues), son was on Lifemobile, now Plusnet ... as I can only have 3 SIMs per account holder, we decided to pop into a Virgin Store and open another 2 of these for son and daughter under the wifes name. Process was quick and easy, very good experience with the staff too. Walked out with working SIMs installed. Called Plusnet soon as I got home for a PAC code.8)

Edit: Guy helping us said billing would only be in 2 weeks time, however on setting up online account and going into it, it has next billing date as 23rd March, so I expect it starts from the day we applied - today.

can i ask what number you rang please?thanks

I got an overseas csa south Africa I think..in my experience the abroad csa's are more accommodating..same goes for many others..like amazon.
I rang the 150 number from a virgin landline..
Free roaming is for calls outbound from UK either from landline or from virgin mobile the receiving virgin mobile is overseas..but can be in any country..
The current Virgin deal for £9 has 2GB data and 1500 minutes, but the lady I spoke to in retentions did not offer any reduction over what anyone would get online. I'll wait for the callback if it comes...

The international call from UK to another virgin number is puzzling. It does not offer free virgin to virgin when roaming abroad with a virgin UK mobile. Smartcall used to work this way, but it is discontinued.

I just called Ee to get a decent deal. £15 a month. 20gb data. Unlim mins and texts. 500gb European data. Plus European calls.

Just spoke to retentions and got offered this package for £7.

Just got my SIM, can confirm tethering does not work. I can set up the hotspot on my phone and connect to it on my laptop, but when I do so there's no internet connection available.

Still, cracking deal for £7 if you don't need tethering.

(existing customer) After some negotiation with them, and showing them the Plusnet 4gb + 1500 + unltd texts for £10, they offered me this tariff (6gb+2500+ultd) for £10 :) happy! Worth a go
Called them with the same request, after holding while they check with retention team 2 times, they returned to me and said they no longer can offer 6gb plan for 10GBP. Any suggestions/tips what to say to them? :)

All I can suggest is make sure you quote the plusnet deal - she brought it up on her computer then went to discuss with manager before agreeing, and don't give up, they often offer you something worse first so make sure you are politely threatening to leave if you don't get the £10 matched

After speaking with 2 operators managed to get one month free credit for £12 plan. Still better than nothing :) thanks for the tips

virgin use the ee network yes! but they use it as a third party and any problems with the network will result in a much bigger risk of vorgin isers having no signal when EE customers do!! so youre much better off going direct to ee, if not for your signals sake then to stop lining that **** richard bransons pocket!!

You are wrong on both counts.

Signal comes from the same equipment (NodeB operated by EE), so signal is exactly the same for EE as for Virgin customers.

Virgin Mobile is part of Virgin Media that is owned by Liberty Global (American telecoms). Richard Branson has nothing to do with it.

im correct on both counts.the signal comes from the same equipment yes.i never said it didnt.but when engineering work is required in a tower but power can be lowered( less signal strength) then third party operators.eg virgin..tesco mobile etc lose there signal before EE.

And yes it is owned by liberty global...but what do they pay Mr Branson for using his company name......millions!!! all i was saying essentially is richard branson is a complete dick and i wouldnt p#ss on him if he were on fire!!

poor customer service
Virgin don't allow tethering though although I'm not sure how they would know if you were doing this!

You could pop the sim in your phone, activate it, and still cancel. The 14 days is to allow customers to try the service.
Bottom line is, yes, you can return the sim.
If you signed up less than 14 days ago
Your legal right to cancel the contract for free depends on whether you signed up over the phone, in person, or online.
If you signed up over the phone or online
You can cancel the contract for free if you signed up less than 14 days ago over the phone or online. This is called a ‘cooling-off’ period. If you’ve already used the service (eg you made calls on a phone), you’re likely to be charged for what you’ve used.
Contact the business and say you want to cancel the contract because you’re still in the cooling-off period. You’ll probably need to give them details such as your account reference number - check any documents or emails you have from the company.
If you post a letter or send an email asking to cancel within the cooling-off period, the contract will be cancelled from the date you post the letter.

The main reason I'm asking is because of the many issues people have had in terms of cancellations with Virgin, in which they have billed or charged the person before the sim arrived or was used. Maybe its just better to keep the deal they offered on my dads account for a few months until a better sim only appears. There was one for £10 after cashback with Unlimited Mins, Texts and 20GB data from Vodafone. Obviously cashback is risky, but when it does work they are usually good deals.

Long story short... the number provided did not work, and after calling the sales team (not the number OP gave), they only would give me 6 months half price if my dad gave his account details and payment went through his account. I'm not happy with this as they persuaded my dad so much that he took the offer. If I call the number OP provided and try to get the same deal on my own new account, what options does my dad have to cancel the new sim (for me) without paying the months charges or cancellation costs? They said the sim can take up to 5 working days.

With any new contract you have 14 days to cancel.

You don't have to wait for the sim to arrive, and there will not be any costs if cancelled within this time. Assuming no calls, texts etc, have been made using the SIM.

You will need to dial 150 from a Virgin landline or 789 from a Virgin mobile, and go through the menus till you get to the 'thinking of leaving us option'.

Thank you for the help. Do you know if I can cancel even if the sim arrives? i.e. Can I cancel if the sim arrives and I do not open it or activate it?

OMG Their customer service team are rubbish, I ordered the SIM at £15 a couple of days ago before spotting this post. So rang them today and couldn't get anyone there to even acknowledge that I had an order, they also mentioned that this deal expired end of Dec. Was pushed from Sales to Billing and then back to Sales again.
Im sure the tariff itself is until 31st January 2017. I called today about the 6months half price and they offered it but on my dads existing account only.

Hi , so Today I switched to this amazing deal from 4gb unlimited mins and texts usually £15 with loyalty discount £5. I changed the monthly tariff online and when changing the tariff it clearly said that my £5 discount will continue and the monthly cost will be £10 per month. However today I received a text message from virgin informing me that my upgrade was successful and the £5 monthly discount has been removed. I called up virgin and spoke to the retention team and they said they cant do anything about this as the deal is already discounted and i cant go back to my previous package either.

Im so upset and annoyed about this, when changing my tariff it clearly said total monthly payment £10 this is the only reason why i changed. Is this even legal to do showing the customer a certain checkout price then changing it to £15.

Can someone please advise if they had a similar experience and if there is anything else I can do!
For anyone now on this tariff with Virgin, what's the signal and speed like where you are? Thanks

Virgin tried to charge me 40p a text for using facebook messenger on WiFi. bunch of crooks is my opinion

it might be January but oh no they didn't. you want to open that up as a new thread on misc there was someone saying just that a few months ago.
Each and every virgin media post I find this sentences from someone or many people "worst customer service", I don't work for them I called them few time myself and found nothing wrong with their customer service, how many year r we going to call them in our life ? I came from giffgaff and they DON'T have customers service department or number ever existed, still never have any problem in 2 year, also don't believe too good or bad things like "speed is not the same as EE" "Throttle the speed" "coverage are not good" etc if any doubt call them, try it for month, go online chat or go into virgin store to find out right answer instead of believing in cowboys, there is huge community and cmpatitior working with each company to promote or demote brands

just haggled the £9 deal down to £7.....
I've been a virgin mobile customer for eight years on a cheapo 3G deal and phoned up last week for 4G. Eventually passed to someone located in the Philippines (!!). Pleasant enough but difficult to understand her accent. Eventually grudgingly offered 1GB data for £7/month on a 12month contact. Looked at my account the next day to see whether the promised changes had happened (they hadn't) and noticed I'd been charged over £13 for the call I made to them the previous day! I‘d used their 084 number apparently. Had to go through the whole rigmarole again and all sorted in the end but TBH I wish I'd switched to Tesco Mobile. Wife uses them, their customer service and efficiency is much better.
You lose the 0870 and 084 calls being included in your allowance if you change to a 4g plan so I didn't bother. I'd rather have slower internet given how much I use and the ability to phone those numbers without being charged through the nose.

I've been with Virgin for at least 10 years. I was on a fabulously cheap deal which they withdrew last month despite it being sold as a lifetime deal. I rang yesterday to change my package to around the £10 mark. Spoke to retentions and their offer and service was so poor that I cancelled. Didn't get offered the £9 package and they couldn't/wouldn't match to another provider offer I'd seen. So much for loyalty!

Me too. Been with them for years,as had my wife and son. All our 'lifetime' contacts ended with s letter earlier this month. Rang retentions who couldn't have cared less.

However, every cloud, now just joined plusnet mobile, same signal. Unlimited minutes and texts plus 4gb of 4g data £10 per month! Boom. So a better deal, more data and 4g.
I had 2 x £6pm sims with virgin. last week i was told the offer (250mins & 1gb data) on one of them was coming to an end and i would need to pay £10pm. when i rang them up i was offered £9pm and that's yer lot. So i switched to life for £5.95pm with 1.5gb, ok its still 3g but with free wifi in many places so what? Changing to life was dead easy and i can understand every word they say....and i'm not talking just about the clarity of the line.

However, as a long suffering virgin customer (mug), i decided to switch to the above 4g deal as i only use ~350gb data a month and rollover seems reasonable to me........sim arrived.........switch on.........hello, hello.........the other caller has cleared......

There are only 5 things in life which really boils my p1$$: Tony Blair, the BBC, cheese with fruit in it, Scottish Power (no don't get me started) and VirginMedia.

I dearly loved them for about 5-6 years because they offered super deals with almost free mobile to me . I asked for 1GB data and about 100 minutes for £5 . They refused .About 5 months ago I left them and joined their carrier EE through Life Mobile . Life mobile gave me 1.5 GB data and far more minutes for £5.95. I'm glad I did that .

Couldn't agree more with you, i had similiar experience with them few years ago. I consider them rude and distant, not helpful at all and their mobile plans have got relatively expensive when prices have been falling recently

Do virgin allow tethering?
Virgin allow limited tethering. If you want upto 30gb then try three. They have got a promo for £32 a month all you can eat data with 9 for the price of 12 months. Works out cheaper and high speeds with 30 gb hotspot and 8 gb of data when abraod. Not like virgin .

Just got my PAC code from EE to move to Virgin Mobile double data sim deal, Anyone know the speed of Virgin's 4G network as it piggy backs EE. Typical chat from the EE representative advising that it will be very slow in comparison to theirs just to try to keep me !!! If its slow then I will go back to EE on a new contract .... Nothing lost I supposed I may even get a better deal from EE as a new customer as they are shockingly expensive at the moment on new phones!

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/i/1870773711
Its a bit less atm but varies, it'll be at decent speeds because they've just took out 4g, once more join, 6month down the line it'll probs go slower

from what I understand Virgin upgrades to 4g for free.

Nope they don't...if u have a 3g contract sim you have to change to a 4G plan. Iv tried many many times to get the 4G upgrade but they won't budge....I pay £22pm for unlimited everything

I was going to sign up found out you cannot tether

Strange I use my device to tether?
I had an unlimited everything contract with Virgin, but because I was regularly using between 3 - 5 gb, they informed me they were switching me to a 500mb contract for the same price. For every day I went over the 500mb they would charge me £2!!! Just aswell I read the letter properly. I worked out it could have ended up costing me £50+ a month. They basically just wanted to either get rid of me or rip me off. They only want to give people unlimited data if they don't use a lot of data, but then what's the point of paying for unlimited data?!!! So cold from me! :(
I was going to sign up found out you cannot tether
So how do you get 4g with them if you are already on a sim only deal? Ring them up and give them a hard time?

I won't be upgrading. IMHO 4G is pointless with such low data limits as it's only going to help you burn through that data faster, which is probably exactly what the operator wants. The minimum should be 1GB, there shouldn't even be a 300MB tier, you could easily use that in a couple of days these days, even simple web pages guzzle data faster than ever with video advertising and the like.

It's like having a really thick hose (plenty of bandwidth) but only a cup of water to put down it (data)...

Still shoddy tariffs

Monthly cost Minutes Texts 4G data
£6 300 Unlimited 300MB
£9 1500 Unlimited 1GB
£12 2500 Unlimited 2GB
£15 2500 Unlimited 4GB
£25 5000 Unlimited 20GB
Any carried over data only lasts for a month and expires on the next billing cycle, irrespective of whether it is used or not. Promotional data (such as the double data deal) cannot be carried over.

Also, inclusive calls to 08 numbers have been removed and are not included in any of the 4G plans.

Maximum 4G speeds is limited to only 25 Mbps d/l. I'm currently getting 20 Mbps on my current Virgin 3G plan on speedtest. No tethering still.

The 4G plans are more expensive than the 3G ones, just checked through my account.

All in all, effectively feels like a downgrade for more money!
Will ring them up tomorrow and see if I get a good deal
ZedKay
Not a freebie, as you have to pay more for 4g Sim only plans. Existing 3g sim onlt customers have to move to a more expensive plan if they want the same data allowance in 4g.

no it's the same!

bma1445 - what's the 'Play' box your talking about? I'm in the same boat as you, can't stand how unresponsive the Tivo is and never use it for that reason, so was considering cancelling my subscription. Didn't know about the Play box, or that there were any alternatives to be honest.

Maybe they mean Player Bundle? It would make sense, as it's the lowest TV offering, so you get the bundle price but the TV part is effectively costing you nothing.

All the same, I hate to be a cynic, but I just can't see virgin offering 200mb broadband, phone and even the basic TV bundle for £23 to a new customer, let alone someone mid-contract.

Just called them, only switching me if I start a new 12 contract at same price.
Decided not worth at this time.
Arrn't the new Virgin mobile tariffs worth mentioning like I'm a new thread?

Virgins new plans/pricing are weird.
We called them to cancel our tv boxes and keep the broadband and phone, since we're sick of the slow TiVo boxes and are going to sky. They wanted £300 early termination fees, but said they had a bundle with 200mb broadband, evening calls and a "play" TV box which they could do for £23 a month, and told us to stick the box in a drawer somewhere.
No logic whatsoever as there's a box out there not being used which they could be making money off, but £23 a month for 200mb bb and a phone line (and a basic TV service we won't use) ain't half bad!
I can't see anywhere on this site how you would get this package? The best I can see is £29 a month for 50mb Broadband, Talk weekends and TV?
I am currently on Phone and Broadband Only with a 70Mb connection but would happily get the TV if it meant paying less! ;)
Any help appreciated :)
I have no idea what package it is, we have a couple of weeks left until it changes and shows online (30 days notice since it was a downgrade). When it's online I'll upload a photo of the package they've put me on

That would be great to know thanks. I'm currently out of contract and prices have risen recently so no that happy, Phoned threatening to leave and the best they said they could do was knock £3 a month off for 6 months. Find it hard to believe thats the best they can do if you got a deal with TV and 200mb Broadband at £23 pm , does that include your line rental charge and everything?

cheers
I was on the phone to them this morning.

Good news was that he upgraded the 'free calls to all mobiles' (except Lyca Mobile & some others that I hadn't heard of).

The bad new was that he informed that my monthly bill was going up from £29.99 to £41 after price increase & loss of a promotional credit. Then he tried to cheer me up by knocking off £3 a month til the end of my contract.

So all in I'm NOT HAPPY that I am now paying £38 from November not £29.99.

Oh well, contract ends mid March.....

Virgin mobile not migrating existing contract..Initially I thought they will migrate existing customer to 4g..Moving to three now..
I think they migrating to new tariff only and not converting existing tariff to 4g..
Yes, In that case £9 which virgin offering 1GB, same price three offering 4gb at the moment.

Note that Three's is a 12 month contract.
Just called up about this deal as an existing customer.

Been upgraded to 4G as of today.

2GB Data, 2500 minutes, Unlimited Texts, 500 minutes to 0870 numbers etc.

Been given 3 months free and £10 a month thereafter as I've been with them for 12 years as a "loyalty thank you" by the filipino woman on the phone.
OP .. "£5.00 for 2gb data, 2500 minutes , unlimited text - virgin mobile (existing customers - 30 day rolling contract)", I wouldn't mind that for existing Customer's too, huh?.

It's a shame.

Has anyone who got this deal (£5 monthly discount) managed to get the discount carried over to one of the new 4G tariffs?

I tried once today but failed, they didn't want to know. I will probably try again though.

I'm wondering how long they will keep the existing customers 3G service going for.
There is nothing like this . I called two time and they also checked with supervisors today. Being told that the management has decided not to go ahead with the sale.....
I got fed up of waiting and just jumped on three's offer unlimited mins text and 4gb of data for £9
Just phoned offer not live, saying next month, but gave me £5 discount this month until offer running. Will not hold my breath.

I phoned up this evening to ask about the 5gb for £10 that I was informed about last week that they put a note on my account to give me when their systems allow. Well they honoured it and give my two accounts the deal. this wasn't even the account retention team, just the normal account upgrade team. I think luck of the draw who you get on the line, also helped that I got them to put the note on my account last week.

I was told by one guy that they would definitely upgrade me to 4G when it becomes available but that was the guy telling me about the deal. When I called back trying to get the deal the other guy said he had no idea if they would upgrade current users to 4G. Too much conflicting information and trying to sell me "loyal customer" deals that anyone can get online worries me. Whatever the case it is poor form so no Virgin for me.

Despite being told about the 5GB deal at £10 going live today, a week ago from a Virgin rep; I called to be told that the deal isn't available yet due to technical issues and that as 'I am a loyal customer they can offer me". They go on trying to sell me deals anybody can get online (double data) so I think this is Virgin Hype trying to get you to call up so they can then try and sell you something else. I will stick with 3 network. I am currently paying £9 for 4GB, unlimited everything else with 4G not 3G but I don't got the free 08 numbers and it is 12months instead of 30days. They haven't lied to me yet and I get service so good enough for me and saves a quid.

I've had no issues with Virgin 3G
Ok so I just managed to borrow a virgin sim and test it out.
Data speed was shockingly slow :( Same EE backbone as my Life sim yet so different so won't be bothering with Virgin.

Think I'm destined to be happy only with Life or EE :p
