I saw this at the weekend but as it you have to buy another item - a computer/laptop i thought it was not worth it. You are buying a new pc that (probably) should have vista in anyway.

But most laptops have Vista Basic / Premium pre-installed (only the much higher spec laptops come with Vista Ultimate pre-Installed).

I think the logic is you have a desktop already with Windows XP on it from the past...
- you buy a new laptop with Vista Home Premium pre-installed (hopefully)
- you buy this to upgrade your desktop to Ultimate and have similar environments on both PCs.

(Still can't understand anyone volunteering to buy any Vista Upgrade per se - it's Windows XP + complications & complexity that aren't needed in my view)

Personaly I have an £1200 sony vaio fz31z but it only came with vista home basic not ultimate through specification is top of market

I have a Vista laptop and agree that it is far too complicated. A new theme is all that was really needed and possibly a few new programs. I feel sometimes that Vista treats me like and idiot and decides to ignore what I tell my laptop to do and just proceed with what it thinks is best. http://www.nearlygood.com/smilies/bash.gif

Remember you can get 10% off of first purchase if you register for business account/discount card(doesnt cost anything as its just a privillage card etc. used to collect points and gain rewards in the end of year).I dont think its only beneficial for businesses but bargain hunters upthere

Excellent! You can downgrade to XP Pro with Vista Business or Ultimate

Rubbish, either that or you were stitched up, it should have come with Vista Home Premium as standard. Vista is **** anyway, XP all the way.

I have seen some laptops that are not high spec in pcworld/currys before with ultimate installed.

According to the sony website that laptop only comes with home premium installed, I have a similar laptop to you and it has home premium installed as well. http://vaio.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProduct.action?product=VGN-FZ31Z&site=voe_en_GB_cons&category=VN+FZ+Series

Vista Ultimate gives the average home user almost nothing over Vista Home Premium.

If you look at this list that compares versions you can see that Ultimate only has four "ticks" more than Vista Home Premium (and this is a list provided by Microsoft)

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/default.aspx

For those that dont know Vista Ultimate is a combination of everything that is in Vista Home Premium and Vista Business (there are some things in Home Premium that are not in Business, and some things in Business that are not in Hme Premium).
