Brightness 500 cd/m2.
Contrast 1000:1

Not so good at all :(

not neccessarily, 100-1 is not too bad as long as its not dynamic contrast, often you see contrast ratio of 50000r 10000+ but its dynamic contrast if you look at sony spec there sets often quote 1500 or less but then add a higher figure for dynamic ratio also you have to triple contrast ratio before the human eye will even begin to detect a difference

If thinking of this, do look at the 47 1080p Wharfedale from Argos for 750 but with a 3yr warranty. Some favourable user experience/reviews/photos on the AVForums LCD TV forum. Downside there appears to be availability - they did it for 700 for a couple of weeks (with the 3yr) and have a backorder situation in some regions.

This is cheap, i really think you need at least 3 year guarantee with big tvs to be honest.

Is 11 exclamation marks in the title a HUKD record? ;-)
#6
The 42" model of these is shocking apparantly, I'd stay clear personally.

contrast ratio is utterly meaningless, dynamic or otherwise. It simply doesnt tell you what the contrast ratio is.

Thank **** someone else has noticed this.
For those of us who care about these things, the ridiculous overuse of exclamation marks is enough to send us over the edge.
Stop it!

If this set has similar quality of construction, OSD (lack of) and quality of image processing as the smaller sets - stay well away.

That's funny, I've bought two 26" and one 32" Vistron TV's in the last 6 months, and they have all been excellent in both build and picture quality.

Do yourself a favour and get a 40" - 42" Samsung or Toshiba 1080p model for the same price. Its not worth sacrificing features, reliabilty and PQ for the sake of 5 inches.

Cant comment on the larger units specifically, but I had 19" and it was rubbish. I posted a fairly detailed review of it on here. That too had many positive reviews on ebuyer.

I personally would ditch the few extra inches and go with a decent brand. You can pick up a Panasonic 42" PX80 for about the same. I certainly know which one will be massively better in every aspect other than size.

Plasma screens of this size always offer a much better picture. You can get a decent 42" panny plasma for not much more than this thats what I would be getting...
#16
I'd much rather have a decent 32"-42" Sony or Panasonic than a 'rola-cola' 47" set!

And in fact John Lewis have the 42" Panasonic at £699 including 5 yar warranty. Not full HD but for the money, fantastic value.
