Before you vote cold because they are always this price or Tesco's value potatoes are cheaper, please note the varieties that Somerfield are putting into the bags lately!

Somerields value potatoes are the ones in the big yellow/white plastic bags and you usually you get the not-so-tasty varieties like Saxon or Marfona etc. The last few weeks I have checked the label and found they contain King Edwards & Maris Pipers, which have been good value. But this week they have been filled with Vivaldi potatoes, which IMO are the tastiest around! Have a look at how much Sainsburys charge for them!

This could obviously vary from store to store but it always pays to read the label!

Ok the price is competitive for the KE or MP varieties, but its a good price for these:

BTW these potatoes make the best baked potatoes, taste so good you don't even need any butter!

I don't know why or how but Somerfield always seem to have nice spuds for some reason.

Not voting as it's an ok price but just to say Tescos have a 2.5kg bag of (non-basic) King Edwards for £1 at the moment, which works out slightly cheaper per kg.

personally i buy 25Kg bags from local farmer or boot sales. Half that price. not voted hot or cold.

will have a look, however, i find the quality poor, loads of black/green ones

I fing that too usually when they have the cheaper varieties, thats why I don't usually buy them. I went in last week to buy a 2kg bag of Maris Pipers that were £1 and noticed the 5kg value bags also contained Maris Pipers! The last few bags have been pretty good quality wise, I always have a good look first!

I imagine Walkers' crisps pay less too, buying them by the thousands of tonnes as they do, but for most people 25kg would be decomposed and rotten, IF they had somewhere to store them!

A peeling offer for someone

I prefer a nice Murray Walker. I'm a common guy who likes a common 'tatoe

So do we, £3 a bag around here, last for weeks in the garage, but like others have said you do need somewhere to store them.
