I think you will find that you are clearly wrong. The 6p is for the first 6 issues and then if you wish to continue it is £12.25 for the next 13 issues. The best thing to do is to cancel your DD immediately the 6p has been claimed by them. You will still get the full 6 issues you have paid for and then when they try to claim the next payment, your bank will refuse the request ant thus they will not send you any more issues.HTH.:)

Wow, get your bi focals on and it will become clear :whistling:

Subscription Term:

Thats the time your agreeing to sign up for. And the answer is.

13 Issues (6 months)

Hmmmm so where does it say Subscription Term: 6 issues

bazr;1429519
I think you will find that you are clearly wrong.

Your clearly right and your quoted evidence proves it LOL
If you have trouble remembering to cancel, here's a top tip:

Get a Gmail (googlemail) account, and use the Calendar function to set reminders for everything you need to cancel, even months in advance.

You can get alerts by email, pop-up, and even a free text to your mobile. Or like absent-minded me, all three!

While you're there, don't forget my birthday(!).
kudos1uk;1428974
It clearly says:

Subscription Term:
13 Issues (6 months) Direct Debit @ £12.25, First 6 Issues Plus FREE CD-Rom 9 @ £0.06

So you are clearly signing upto 13 issues with the first 6 @ 6p, the other 7 issues will be charged at full price!

Awesome deal, heat and rep added! This is basically 6 copies of a magazine that usually retails for over 3 pounds for one while you can the whole lot of 6 for 6 pence! Banging deal.
Has anyone had any problems with cancelling?
alchemistkevin
I usually call up and cancel AND stop the DD. However, there are others who just cancel the DD....

Always a good idea, as some companies can get a bit upset if you just cancel the DD without advising them also.
Marco_79
Just signed up, how and when do you cancel. Do you just cancel the DD once you recieve the 5th issue. It looks like you are contracted to pay the £11.95 for the other issues too.

I didn't see anywhere on the "computer active" offer the claim that the stick is worth £15.

In my opinion it was "rayman" who is the originator of this thread, who made this valuation. I take it that he meant that the 3 issues + the stick are a combined saving of £15 when only paying 3p.

Its a good deal every way you look at it :-D
my-planet
128MB...worth £14.99??? :o

mabccc
Would you trust computer hardware / software reviews in a magazine that claims a 128Mb stick is worth that much? If they are still quoting prices from five years ago for their free gifts, chances are their reviews are out of date too.

mabccc
That's not my point. My point is if they think a 128Mb data stick is worth £15, then the information in their magazine is likely to be useless. If they review something and say it is good value, are they to be trusted?

cheffy, how bis is the usb?

It's about 3cm x 1cm x 50mm.....:giggle:

128mb.......NOT much cop really!

My 3p came out today...just canceled it!
The trick, legal, is to cancel the Direct Debit after the 3p has been debited; legally speaking, you've fulfilled you're end of the contract as you've paid consideration and they are now bound to provide you with the goods, despite you seemingly breaking a non-existent obligation to keep your subscription active.

You paid for three issues and a memory key, you will get that, no more and no less - if the latter, you can seek a remedy via unjustified enrichment (i.e. if you cancel and get no magazines and key, but am out of pocket for three pence)

blinder84
LOL its hardly not free though - I think i could find 3p down the sofa

blinder84

Technically its £0.03

Dont forget Quidco!!! 0.3p -10% = 2.7p - Bargain!!

(I wonder just how many will check:))

Small though it may be it will be ideal for storing all those account numbers and passwords and if encrypted keeps them very secure.

Went for it anyway so thanks.

I've had other offers from VNU and have never had any probs cancelling the sub after receiving just the free/cheap issues. :)

Trust me to say that.

Just a quick warning. I have just received the last of my 6 trial issues, but when I went to cancel it I discovered that they had already taken the DD for the next 6 months worth (nearly a week ago! :x ). I have written to cancel my subscription and have asked for a refund, but just in case, I thought I'd better post and warn people who are also getting their last issues to check their bank statements.
great find this
ive done it before but payed £1 i think and cancelled it no problem.
well worth it if your looking for basic instructions and things for your pc.
if you dont like it just dont forget to cancel
intime
Worth 6p, but not worth the full price.
The mag has a good news section, but the technical and 'how to' pages are very basic.
It's the 'Sunday Sport' of Computer Magazines (without the pictures).

lol without the piccys. they have some toons tho!

just got the first issue, in it there was a card with "Our thank you, help yourself to FREE mags" ie a complimentary copy of The Spectator, Apollo, The Business ... dry stuff.
Worth 6p, but not worth the full price.

Do we still get the key if we go through quidco?

Hi, good find, but what size usb key do you get ?

for 3p are you bothered ?

I should point out that you can cancel the direct debit after the first payment of 3p has been taken and do not need to continue with the subscription at £11.95 every 6 months
There are other Computer Active cheap subscription offers discussed on this forum and nobody has had problems

from one of rayman's Computer Active posts;
"For plain English, easy to understand and up to date computer related information, start a subscription to ComputerActive Magazine. Your first 3 issues will cost just 3p and you'll also receive a free Photo Art Master CD-ROM Disc. Continue with your subscription after the three issues and pay £11.95 every six months by direct debit.
If you want to cancel your subscription, do so before receiving the third issue."

No toolkit than God; voted hot. When my PC Pro 3 month subscription expires I’ll sign up for this.
Good deal, but this mag isn't what it was. I've just cancelled my subscription after 7 years when they put the prices up. The editorial is thin on the ground and there's a lot less reviews than before. Try PC Pro instead.

I've done this offer before, so most probably cannot do it again; but to cancel I just cancelled the direct debit... :)

You can do this again, I'm on my 6th time with computer active, i've had a number of mags in the past for £1 trials, ie: computer shopper, pc pro, mac user, custompc, auto express, evo and a few others.

Just cancel the direct debit when you have got the trial issues, i've done this is the past as everythings been ok, they cannot take more money if you cancel the direct debit, this is the good thing with direct debit, I cancel mine via online banking, easy :)

So your complaining that the magazine gives you too much software?

I'm not complaining about the amount of software; I'm complaining about having to pay a premium of two pounds for a DVD version of a magazine :)
Diodorus-siculus
Decent magazine but I really wish it were easier to subscribe to the CD versions of magazines... I rarely want the content of the CD/DVD as I have more than enough by way of software.

Anyway, time to stop before I get into a rant :)

So your complaining that the magazine gives you too much software? Just ignore it. Is that not just an easy idea? Or is it just me?
I can't see the terms and conditions. Is this one where you can cancel after three issues if you don't want to continue?

And I agree with Diodorus-siculus. In these days of broadband you can download the demos you want from other sources.
