Good price but I think vodafone have changed the terms of the contract with new packs the data allowance only lasts for a month like most other providers.

In that case could you not send it back to Tesco for a full refund, as it's stated on their site that it's valid for 270 days...?

Tempted, need mobile internet rarely,so top up not running out after 30 days is attractive
Any similar deals?
#4
i need a data sim to, without running out after 30 days

Waiting for the T-Mobile 120 offers to come round again - one off payment for 12 months access.

good find well done

Quick question, can you take the sim card out of these and use in a HP Compaq netbook which has a sim card slot - or do you need to use the dongle ?

I would have thought so. I was just giving a heads up that you may need to check. I think if you get a box that says 1GB in the bottom left corner you do indeed have the 270 day version.

You should be able to. You just might need to use the dongle in another pc or install it's software to register and get your number. I'm using mine in my dells built in socket.

Couldn't find one of these instore in any local Tescos, but found what I think is same or similar deal instore at Asda Living - 1GB Vodafone Top Up & Go priced at £26.95 (they had loads in Llanelli Trostre)..according to the blurb you have to at least use the broadband once every 180 days for it to remain active... No mention of the 30 day limit the new contracts plague you with. I bought one since my dog chewed up my old one last week.

Slightly dearer than Tesco (though not if you take delivery charge into account). Just a thought for anyone struggling to get one or needing one quick!

Cheers

Has any one confirmed if these are old stock without the 30 day limit on credit?

These are £22.99 delivered at pcworld

Product code: 003745

no expiry on the credit.

I was looking for this deal a couple of weeks ago but Vodafone said it was discontinued. I was in Greenock Tesco's yesterday when I saw the dongle under discussion. Popped into Vodafone store and asked if they'd honour the terms if the dongle was sold by Tesco. The assistant said that it is the SIM card that gives you the tariff (£15 to top up 1GB which would last for up to 270 days) and that this would continue to work even though it had been discontinued in Vodafone stores. He said Tesco's were selling off old stock.
I would have posted a photo of the terms/tariff which were shown in Tesco's but Orange Safeguard family protection have decided that HUKD is an 'adults only' website so I can't connect on my mobile to upload it???

cracking deal! get em while u can before they all go!

I have one of these and it's poor. Always throwing me out and very slow.
#24
got one of these the other day from vodafone but through their ebay site, same price and the credit doesnt expire after 30 days, but the new ones do. ideal for me as i dont use it much
#25
Vodaphone did not pay the Quidco discount- they wanted me to forget it. Next I reported a small issue where I took the dongle in Ireland to test out if it could be used. By just trying ONE website it used up £10 credit (within a second). I reported the problem but they have not got back to me, maybe because they don't care...
#26
£15 for 1gb?!! I'd rather get the new ones where it is £15 for 3GB!
#27
The problem I have with this is that it's Vodafone, and therefore you have to try to get some sense out of Vodafone customer service when things go wrong. And therefore its a nightmare!
#28
As far as I know, the new dongle with 30 days expiry are colored dongles, the white one are the old stock.

also last week there was some independent survey came out that Vodafone is the fastest network on web browsing, So it is a good deal..

This link should help people decide which deal is beast for the 3GB with a 30 day limits or 1GB with a 270 day limit

Just to add to the confusion. Sorry.
I bought the Vodafone dongle on 15th March 2009 after it (I think) appeared on this site.
Paid £39 and got quido, and also got £30 of credit of which £28.79 is still unused.
Using it now for this post to make sure it still works.
So, mine appears to be unlimited time, as it's well over the 270 days.

The point being with this is that it doesnt expire after a month, so if you only use it occasionally it is loads better value than topping up £15 a month for 3GB and then still not using 1GB and loosing the rest of your allowance and having to top up ;-)

This deal is cheaper at Currys, PC World and Dxions and includes free delivery. Topcash back pay the most potential cash back if you buy from Currys (plus they don't charge an annual subscription fee. They do give cah back tops and referral bonuses!)
#34
I have one of these older unlimited ones, and it works fine,
ideal when the ISP (vm) goes down

wouldn't be without it :)
#35
I have one for when out and about with the netbook, just in case I want access.

I also bought one for my mother to have on one of my old laptops and access the internet instead of having to go to the library.

She uses it a few times a week for looking up books and occasionally checking the reviews of hotels they have booked coach holidays to.

After about 10 months use she still has about £11 of credit from the original £15.

This is the sort of person the old dongles are for.

Hot, get em while you can if this is the type of usage you need.

as you found out these dongles are not to be used overseas - this isn't like the 3 Mobile network !

Personally I think these are great, i bought one ages ago, used it lots for webpage browsing on my netbook in various places and it hardly goes down in credit !

it just depends on usage - for heavy its not good, for light or occassionaly these are the BEST ( IMO )

£15 for 1gb of data is rubbish value however if you are someone that only needs very occasional use then this will last a long time. 270 days expiry has been mentioned but I understand there is no limit. As long as the dongle is used every now and then the credit will last forever.

Worth noting for anyone buying one when you do need to top up make sure you use a £15 voucher only. You cant use a £5 and a £10 it has to be one single £15 voucher.

I don't have one of these but would I be right to think it installs some software that keeps track of useage and credit on the computer? Does anyone know what happens if it was used on several computers, or is there a way to check useage and credit any other way? can it be unlocked without affecting it's Vodafone use?

Hi I have one of these and was not aware that they had discontinued, it is defo the best after much research at the time for occasional use.

You can also use on multiple computers it is the sim that stores the credit all you have to do is load the vodafone software that comes on the stick on all the computers that want to go on-line with.
