Perfect thank you OP - been looking for a Moto E under £50 for my pal for his 50th birthday on 1 January.

Using some of my bespoke tokens, effectively £25 :)

Just a note that I got one on a previous deal and the Vodafone ones are not yet able to unlock the bootloader and root!

Just a warning if that's you thing.

However had mine for 6 weeks and excellent back up phone as I have a HTC one. Still use it regularly.

You can unlock from Vodafone for approx £1.50 through codes on ebay or other sites.

Bargain at this price.

Excuse my ignorance but what does "not yet able to unlock the bootloader and root" mean?

I want to use this on Three network so will be unlocking .

Unlocked mine this morning for £1.29 eBay very simple like me LOL oO

Basically if you want to install custom roms or rootable apps you would need this function! For most people it is not needed and the phone is perfect as it is.

I don't know why you would root the phone especially as Android L is days away.

The phone is great by the way.

Optimistic, you're probably looking at weeks, or months.

Plus rooting gives you the ability to manage your phone in ways that are simply not possible with stock roms.

The Viper4Android mod is reason enough.

I'd rather not have to deal with the turd default sound quality most Android phones offer.

Can you get me one for that price?

I'd like to give a cheap smartphone or tablet to my mum so she could see my kids via Skype as she's abroad.
She's in the 60's and not great with tech so not sure whether a phone like this or the Vodafone Smart 4 Mini (£35) or indeed a cheap android tablet (or even give her my ipad 1 mini).

What would you guys suggest in terms of easiness to use? I'm more inclined towards a tablet as I'm sure she will be annoyed with the daily routine of charging a smartphone.

Good phone for kids or old people, very solid performance aswell.

You may have confused the majority of viewers for this thread.

Just to clarify, you can get this phone network unlocked by purchasing an unlock code from eBay. This means you are able to use any sim card in the device.

If all she's using it for is Skype, then I doubt she'll have to charge it everyday.

With no front facing camera that might be somewhat difficult.

Well there goes that idea!

That's the thing! She's quite a heavy user of calls and she's happy at the moment with her ancient basic Nokia phone.
I guess an ipad would be better for the occasional Skype call to me then.
Thanks anyway

You can unlock from Vodafone for approx £1.50 through codes on ebay or other sites.
Bargain at this price.

Just a FYI.
Received my phone today and have successfully unlocked bootloader and rooted.

Problem is that so far, 2 unlock code sellers on ebay are unable to supply a code as this phone's IMEI number is
not listed on their databases (I'm waiting on a response from a 3rd seller).
May not be quite the bargain if I have to go to Vodaphone to unlock it (£19.99).

How did you unlock the bootloader and root it? i tried following the instructions from motorolas website but it kept talking about typing $path into the command prompt window and my computer wasn't recognising the commands, also i thought that it would unlock it that way rather than via having to get a further code, also as far as im aware it breaks the warrenty unlocking bootloader and rooting it according to motorolas website so im kinda stuck with a vodafone phone i want to use on o2 lol and its not rooted or bootloader unlocked
