These excellent little portable WiFi Mobile data devices seem to be available again from Tesco Direct.

These come with a Vodafone data SIM providing 4 Gigabytes of data which lasts 30 days after activation. (Update.. according to allan1954, the SIM only comes with 2Gigabytes of data and not 4 as stated by Tesco. I cannot confirm one way or the other regarding this).

These are 3G (or slower) only. Not 4G enabled, however at this price you can't go wrong with up to 21mbps download speeds.

They are Vodafone branded (not my favourite company at the moment), and come locked to the Vodafone network.

However for 99p they can be unlocked with a code from ebay. (Just search for R207 Vodafone unlock code).

Also, after unlocking, remember to go into the advanced menu and setup the APN for whichever network you are intending to use as the default APN is set to Vodafone.

eg. Using EE data SIM: Set (in Mobile Broadband - Connection menu)

ACCOUNT TYPE to Custom
IP Type to IPv4 + IPv6
IPv4/IPv6 APN to everywhere
IPv4/IPv6 Number to *99#
Security to CHAP

Complete UK APN list here ..... http://www.mobilez.org/support/apns/uk/

For the three network... It is the same as the APN setting for EE, except put " three.co.uk " instead of " everywhere " all other settings are the same. (thanks to Inactive for that info)

info supplied by wildecat follows...
O2's APN is usually either:

mobile.o2.co.uk with a username of mobileweb and a password of password
or
m-bb.o2.co.uk with web as both the username and password

The correct APN for 3 is 3internet not three.co.uk as this is for mobile handsets

Is there any expire date for the data allowance ??

Mine arrived today.. a sticker on the SIM packet says activate by 23 Sep 2016. So nice long expiry :D
Hope that helps.

I've got an old t mobile pointer, and wanted another one ( to check if it's my equipment or the signal at fault for poor connection), so by the sound of it this ought to be easy enough to change network?
It's a lot cheaper than Huawei, but presumably does the same job ?

I've got this one two weeks ago
and the data is 2gb only even though it says 4gb. also it expires in a month of activation...
cheap for a mifi.. I did unlock mine and put the EE two month free data sim in there and it doesn't work... so disappointed... even though the unlock was successfull.
thought I'd share...

I have an EE sim working in it. You probably need to change the VPN settings. If you search for the last time this deal was posted, the EE settings are in there (about page 100 I think!)

Understood, no problem.. The old VF data SIMs that did not expire were good in that respect.. Unfortunately VF scrapped them :(

I have added the EE APN setting in description above for those on the EE network. Thanks for your comment :)

These are Huawei E5530 apparently. Supporting up to 5 max wifi connections.

Vodafone are meant to add the 2gb automatically after the first 2gb is used up.I didnt know this, neither did tescos as they refunded me £10 when i bought one the same price before xmas.

I cant confirn if its true as i sold mine and bought a 4g dongle instead.

Fantastic price given the paltry 99p cost of unlocking them.

Trying to resist buying one. After all, I have no use for it - but damn ... that's a hot price!

EDIT: Just realised it's 3G only. Still a good price though.

Going to use mine as an in-car mifi unit.... Is that a good excuse to buy ?(_;)

From description of device on Tesco website... quote...

This Mobile Wi-Fi device comes with 4GB data. Once activated you will receive 2GB of data to start and a further 2GB once the initial allocation is used up. Please be aware that your account will only show the initial 2GB allocation until this is used up. The total 4GB of data will expire after 30 days from activation at which point you will need to top up.

As mentioned in my post above, it looks like Tesco have responded with the comment in bold regarding the extra 2gigabytes kicking in when the initial 2 has been used up. I cannot comment on this as I would struggle to get to 2GB let alone 4GB. Maybe someone that uses a lot of data can comment?

Sounds more like a VF mess up to me.. wouldn't surprise me after the hassle me and hundreds of other HUKD'ers have experienced with the LG G2 VBlack Friday deal... Having said that, Tesco should sort it, as they are the seller here. oO

Personally, I'm not worried about the VF data, as a barely get a 2G Vodafone signal here. Using EE SIM myself, with very good speeds :)

When people say they've used an EE sim do they mean a phone sim or a data sim?

Was thinking of using a Three phone sim in one of these which I have unlimited internet on, so does anyone know if that would work?

Thanks but I think that is for phone only it would not cover for dongle or tethering.

OK, I have found it now;

It is the same as the APN setting for EE, except put " three.co.uk " instead of " everywhere " all other settings are the same.

No - three will block internet on a phone sim used outside a phone (if they realise, which from what I read they are good at).
