Vodafone 547 - 2.8 touch screen , HSDPA Capable - £30.00 (all in) Delivered (£5 quidco)

I thought that this looked like a very good specification for a phone around the £30 mark all in. Also includes HSDPA data which would allow very quick browsing. The Vodafone 547 has a larg…

Hi folks bought this phone a while back on the offer and have just got round to 'trying' to set it up. Followed the guide below but no joy at all. As soon as i click on the web connection button i get an instant 'no connection' button. I'm with o2 on a contract.

Can anyone help me with a 'foolproof' guide to getting the phone set up for internet use please - i only bought the phone for the web browser!!

"Under settings, connectivity, data account, gprs I have a profile called "Giffgaff gprs wap" Account name: Giffgaff gprs wap (I don't think this name is important)APN: giffgaff.comUser name: giffgaffPassword: passwordAuth type: normalPrimary DNS: (unsure if I should have put in here)Secondary DNS: settings, WAP, settings, Profiles I created a profile called giffgaff:Profile name: giffgaffHomepage:http://www.giffgaff.comData account: Giffgaff gprs wap (from above)Connection type: WAP (it then asked me for an IP address so I entered name: giffgaffPassword: passwordI then activated my giffgaff profile and cleared my cache & cleared cookies[/quote]
If anyone in the North East area is after one of these i have 2 (still boxed)

Bought for Xmas for my 2 sons who have now said they want an Orange San Fransisco.
anyone got the settings for 02 internet
Mine was delivered today too :)
had given up on it to be honest but I think its a bargain for a touchscreen.
Had mine delivered from Vodafone today :)

Just enquired when I was due to receive the £100 that was tracked in Quidco and got the following response. Carpe Diem. Won't be using Vodafone Business again.

Your Vodafone purchase is currently going through the normal validation and payment period, which can take around 6-7 months in total from the contract start date to the cashback being received by Quidco.
I noticed yesterday that unlimited landline calls had disappeared from my online account also there must be a case for unlimited Internet use being more than 1/2Gb.

Just called them and had the unlimited landline calls put back on and also had a whinge about their definition of unlimited Internet usage. Got them to agree that If I go over 1/2 Gb I would get a text message but would not be billed. The guy I was talking to has an iPhone (same as me) and uses GPS, Sky News, email, browsing etc. and the most he has used in a month is 280Mb so this maybe a mute point but worth clearing up.
I got my sims and vouchers the other day. and £100 of the quidco withn hours of making payment.

i called vod yesterday, they told me i have only 500mb of usage, the usage can be for both 3g and wifi, but i can have only 500mb in total, e.g. 300mb in 3g and 200mb in wifi each month.

This 500mb seems very limited, its hardly "unlimited" is 500mb their standard "unlimited" amount?

Also, they did not say i had inclusive unlimited landline calls. My online vodafone page did not mention it either. They said they would look inkto it, and ended up just adding it to my account then and there. But there doesnt seem to be any record of it on my account page or anything. But i called them back today and the guy at VF confirmed that unlimited free landline calls HAVE been added to my account. So i guess i neednt worry for now, well maybe a little until i get the first bill.
I looked at personal SIM deals before opting for this one. There was a 500MB and 1GB deal for the same money but half he minutes and with only £100-120 Quidco ver. £150 plus £50 eVouchers.
VF limit is usually 500MB, is on my similar personal tariff anyway

It says "Includes Mobile Internet and BlackBerry® email" - surely that is the blackberry push service? Bit cheeky if its not!

Hi, yea I assumed it would be just vodafone's internet as you didnt specifically mention blackberry email.

But the bold9000 on 3 is a much better deal, as the phone has hsdpa and wifi too :)
Its a lovely phone better than the curve. I've played with both.

Apologies - forgot the vat. Anyone can get the business deal though.

Whats the link for the three detail, and could you elaborate about the live chat support.

Live chat support, basically u click the got a question before you buy,and you end up talking to someone who says they can give you a promotional code for a £20 accessories voucher or 3000 3-to-3 minutes.

..........Says its included

But still need to add vat to the business tariff as per above post

no, thats vodafones own internet, blackberry have their own subscription which you must sign up to, if you obviously want to use your blackberry for the purpose for which it is intended. Emailing.

On 3 its vat inclusive for £30 but will come under slightly around £29something because 3's prices reflect the 17.5% so people wont get a shocker when their bills go up by about 50p!
3 have sorted the blackberry internet and email out with blackberry,
No point having a 2g blackberry either, it will be crap on the internet.:w00t:

HTC Touch Pro 2 - 750mins/250txt/unlimited land/500mb web £30.00 p/m for 24 Months- £27.33 (inc VAT) a month @ Vodaphone Business (after all discount)

OK, feel free to flame me or give cold if I have worked out wrong, I know this deal has been on for a few month, but not sure if I have worked this out correct. (Please don't give cold because "My

Thanks Fil, the advice you gave was much appreciated. My phone is now updated with the stock HTC ROM. Rep added... Many thanks!
fil, although I'm not on Vodafone, but thanks for the useful links...Rep added!

its pretty straight forward to lose the vodafone crap

A guide on there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540

But basically,

1st install the Hard-SPL http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550131
this allows you to save the phone , restore it if you screew up flashing a rom,

isntall by downloading it, sync phone to pc then just run it, make sure your phone batterys over 50% is recommended.

Then find the rom of you choice, either custom or oem htc or network one there all on there, download sync phone and run, simples.

Same for radios, the one is mega, gps , quick and strong and the batterys real good, no missed or drop calls yet, ( on t-mobile )

when flashing a rom you will lose all your personel info, so back it up if still needed

Got mine on vodafone, so I had to add a custom rom to get rid of the horrible red theme that they send it out with....

Great phone, EYE WATERINGLY HORRIBLE red & white theme. I saw all of those flash pics of the standard, classy, 'black, grey and green' theme on the unbranded model, and when I got mine from Vodafone I wanted to cry LOL.

If you could point me in any direction to get rid of my VF theme and apply the stock one i'd be very grateful. I checked out XDA but i'm easily confused. Is there an easy way of doing it?

Please say yes!

Oh, hot deal, but wear tinted shades to avoid retina damage from the screen if you buy a vodafone one. ;-)
Maybe mine is faulty............ I have given up with it to be honest, it was a spur of the moment buy, but it is really slow and I hate windows 6 even if it was faster.

Rom is
Radio is

Is either a duff version?

that roms a vodafone ( filled with there crap version ) that will be the main issue. previous WM phones that ive had ( with T-mobiles custom roms on ) have been poor, i really dont know why they do it???

Tho a quick rom flash to remove all there bloat and you have a very useable phone, tho this must really cripple future WM phone sales

Properly unlimited mobile internet on Vodafone £20.70 / month inc VAT + 3 months free + 105 quidco works out at £13.74 per month for 24 months

this genuinly is an unlimited offer.

Its is available to business customers (this ranges from anyone who uses their handset for business now and again to directors of limited companies etc).

yes fair usage of 5gb at 3G, then the speed will drop but you can use as much as you please.
Oh deary me.

Ok, no eyes

Btw, did you mean sentence, my dear?

Also that should read as 'I was just pointing it out' (Sorry, I have to roll my eyes now)

Oh deary me.

The sentance didn't work well with the word proper my dear, I was just point it out.

No need to give me those eyes!

Ok, no eyes

Loving the eyes by the way.
No problem I have a habit of using the word proper

so they will grant me with this offer even though i work for job centre(just unsure as they ask so many question such as company name etc)? thanks

i bought it at the moorgate shop in london.
they ask nothing about your business as it is a personal sale. All BBs in the vodafone catalogue are in the business catalogue, but this does not mean they can't be sold to an individual.
No. They give to individuals

Sadly not available online (as far as I can see)

Wish HTC would make one of these with a bigger screen and larger battery. A 2.8" just wastes a VGA screen - could be so good for net browsing if not. Similarly with the battery, it's not like the unit is big already, there's plenty of room for higher capacity.
Becuase its a PDA as well as a phone and it draws a lot of power to run the screen among other things.

Also if you have it check email .etc regularly it often leaves a data connection up so it's talking to things on the internet quite often (I have my kaiser setup with an exchange server and therefore it keeps the data connection on prettymuch all the time)

I would suggest anyone getting one of these type of phones to get a decent data package with it as its possible to use a fair bit of data.

It might be in the business catalogue but I suspect they will sell it on a consumer tarrif (phone might not be free tho) i know I was asking about one of the PDA phones in my local vodafone store and they seemed quite willing to sell it on a non business tarrif

I know exactly what type of phone it is because I have been loyal to HTC since the C500. I still argue battery life is not good enough BUT we will see how things pan out I guess. There is a larger battery and back available.
the scroll wheel usage, i think it's only to use for zoom in and out of webpages

+ album
+ camera
+ tomtom 7 (!)

this is standard

I think there are some mods on xdadev which allow you to use it in other places
the scroll wheel usage, i think it's only to use for zoom in and out of webpages. you rotate it just like you do it on an ipod.
I have one on a non business tariff. I upgraded at end of contract term for this on £30 per month 12 month contract, had to pay £50 for the unit though.

I think the phone is great, but the battery life is appaling.

I have been on the xda forum quite a bit and have managed to get TT7 Navigator working on mine, i had to purchase a new map from TT website for £50 but that's fine. I had to have TT apposed to the built in sat nav as I use my work SIM in it and I do not have a data connection on that card, i can connect Wi-Fi though so no problems.

With the GPS being active the battery life will last less than a day!!!! 2 1.5hr trips to a site and back and the unit will be dead at the end of the day, although I have got a car USB Charger to power it now so no problems at all. Due to having this phone I have sold my TT Go910, Dell PDA and my Samsung G600 on ebay for nearly £300 al together so well happy.

As for the other previously listed problems
Poor battery life - Ahh yeah
Fingerprint nightmare - Yes
Average sunlight legibility - OK
No memory card slot - agreed
Questionable build quality - i thinks it a solid well built unit, just look after it and use the case
Tri-band GSM support only - Dont know
No TV out port - Dont care
No standard 3.5mm audio jack - True
Back panel design has negative impact on usability and camera image quality - Disagree
Back panel finish started to wear off in a few weeks of usage - Not on mine
Limited scroll wheel usage - There is no scroll wheel!
