Looks good. Same car cost £1000 more @ Arnold Clark

Import?
#3
Is it important to distinguish between standard and import cars? What's the difference?
#4
a genuine saving, just priced it up with the extras on the vw site
#5
I thought motorpoint sold Irish imports? Hard work selling on/trading in.

Adidas Addict
Hard work selling on/trading in.

Why is that?

I had a delivery mileage Renault Megane from Motorpoint that was imported from Cyprus. Had it for 5 years, completely reliable, absolutely no problems with service or warranty and got exactly the same PX deal from a Vauxhall dealer as a UK model. In fact I don’t think anyone other than me even realised it was an import.
#8
Ask a rep.at Motorpoint and they will
tell you where the car is from. My
daughter had an Alfa Romeo 147 that
was an Irish import. When sold it got
good money and no one was interested
in its origin. Second owner? - no one
cares.

The 1.2 Petrol is the Skoda designed engine. Good engine, but kind of reverses the whole "it's a Skoda, they're made by VW which makes them good" misconception.

Get a Skoda Fabia instead.

just checked these cars are from Malta and have only a 2 year warranty on them as opposed to a UK one of 3 years. Of course as the cars have been pre registered they have already used part of this 2 years and additonal on the road costs add an extra £200 roughly to the £9999 cost.

Is it really worth it taking this into account.

Oh and by the way the colour is not a UK based one, although similar to a this.
#16
Qudico or discount codes?
#17
I wouldn't buy an import........therefore..............COLD.............Fank Yu Please
#18
Link not working for me and I can't see it at that price - is it expired?
#19
Just be careful. The Maltese spec may be much less than the UK even with the same model name.
My brother got caught out with a Maltese Ford Fiesta even though the model name was the same the spec was much less than the UK equivalent.

Volkswagen? Would a car with a more reputable brand be better like Onkyo?
#21
I thought a VW was a name brand. Why else would anyone pay 10K for this.
#22
I bought a second hand C2 VTS from motorpoint galsgow. It was advertised at £7999 but with all of the extras (hpi check and new number plates + others) I think it cost closer to £8300. I knew about the fees but it would be worth looking at the small print. This will not need the HPI check but may need the plates or some of the other various fees. I don't think I would spend £10000 on a 1.2 polo but I doubt you can get it cheaper!
#23
Blimey, this was over 100 degrees just now and it's dropped to 64 degrees in just a few minutes!
It's going down faster than a cheap hooker!
If you want a Polo it's a good deal.
If you can find one cheaper please tell us where.
#24
Good Deal
#25
Yeah this is a good deal! Surely the only import that isn't worth as much as a UK car is one with the steering wheel on the left hand side?
It's got a good spec too, alloy wheels, metalic paint, air con etc. Just check the spec and price up a new one on the VW site.
VW's hold their money and in my opinion are far better quality than any car I've owned. (Ford, Vauxhall, Peugeot, Toyota, Mitsubishi)

I think this is a fabulous little car for not much money. They advertise a 3 year warranty at VW, do you still get that when purchasing from Motorpoint? I would think so, unless you have to drive to Ireland to get any work done.
#26
This shows the problem with this site.
This is obviously a good deal as it's cheaper than buying from anywhere else.
People who are looking to buy a Polo will not see this and miss out thanks to morons voting cold :/
#27
Why is this in the "hot" category after only 27 degrees?
#28
thats a good question. why is this front page? Probably the site owners getting paid to advertise :)

Nope it's because people are voting cold, because it's only a bit cheaper than the UK one (before haggling!), and it's an import with less warranty, as well as pre-reg.
#30
TBH you can get the SEAT Ibiza SC for £9,300 which is exactly the same car internally and I personally think it looks nicer

VAG cars are still very good though and its a decent price so i'm voting warm

Pretty outstanding little car given it was awarded both European car of the year 2010 and World car of the year 2010. Also seems to win neigh on every group test its entered for.

The 1.2 engine is adequate in my experience, had a 1.2 60PS version of the old model for a few weeks once and found it OK around town, so with an extra 10bhp and less weight I'd imagine this version is fairly nippy.

At £9999 in desirable SE trim I'd say this makes a really good buy.

If it's not like for like then how can you say it's a good deal?
It's like me saying a Golf GTi from Malta is a bargain but then realising it doesn't come with half the standard extras that the UK car comes with.

The third year of warranty could well be worth the extra cost of buying the car in the UK in the first place.

And no I'm not in the motor trade nor have I voted it cold! It's just that these 'cheap' import sites have to be very thoroughly investigated before you buy or else you get a hell of a shock when you take delivery.
#33
My brother's was a new well specced model of the new Fiesta but when he took delivery he realised that the spec in Malta is different to the UK spec despite the cars having exactly the same model name.
#34
10K for that pile of poo. More money than...

If you are interested in a new car deal, I just saved £4,500 off a new Citroen C4 Picasso through using Drive The Deal, (a broker on the net) as a bargaining tool. Got the best price off them, went to Citroen dealer, asked them to match it and to my surprise after a few phone calls, they did. And if you don't get a match at a dealer, Drive The Deal are a long established legit company anyway and I would have been happy to buy from them had Citroen not macthed them. Of course, no part exchange but I sold my old car privately. You do actually buy the car from the dealer not Drive The Deal, so you get all the same benefits as a straight dealer sale. Worth a check on the net.

Cannot see how this car can be described as "fairly nippy"

Surely this is a tree huggers car - A pushbike would be quicker and cheaper

The skoda 1.2 3 cylinder engine is quite "torquey", it performs reasonably well but if you're used to 1.8 and above or turbos then it will feel like a tortoise.

Make sure if it's the 5 door they physically have the car and it's not being built to order coz there's been 2 strikes in South Africa (where they are produced) this year and you'll expect a long wait!

I ordered a VW Polo SE 1.4 DSG from a VW dealership on 9th April and I'm still waiting, last I heard it was on the production line in SA, that was 25th August, then I heard on 1st Sept the factory was forced to shut down coz it had run out of parts due to strikes in the components industry, on the 9th Sept they were in their 2nd week of strikes. Prior to that the factory had shut for 8 days from 11th Aug coz auto manufacturer workers wanted a wage increase.

I test drove a SE 1.4 DSG and loved it, I've currently got an 03 SE 1.4 Auto and it is the best handling small hatch I've driven, and I've been putting off replacing it until a found a small car as nice, nearly brought a Fiesta for handling but didn't like the build quality.

Don't you just love these car posts - brings out all the biggots and ignoramouses - we were well overdue for one.

Carry on chaps.

PS: my car is better than your car, so there!
