what is this for?

This is not so simple to use...If you just connect your phone it won't work...You need to take subscription from vonage for this phone the subscription prices starts from 5.99 and gives you free UK landline phone calls.

The device is very useful if you are calling to Countries like India, Australia, Pakistan etc...You just need to register the phone connection in UK. Subscribe for Monthly phone package...Send it to other country and link this small device to your internet connection...You will have a uk landline number working in another country....

If this can only be used with the vonage service (and you are going to use them for 90days) then it's free from Vonage themselves

Apart from the £8.99 postage fee!

im with vonage, its great if you only have cable broadband and you dont want to pay line rental. yeah £8.99 postage is steep but its next day, i think every company i have been with takes two weeks to send the kit.
if you recommend a friend then you both get 3 months for free and there is a £40 quidco cashback for any package taken. so far its going to cost me nothing for the first 10 months to be with them!
but back to the deal.... not sure if this is hot or not? i dont remember an option to have no equipment in the checkout but if you can, then this is hot. only if its less effort to go pcworld than get vonage to post it.

Certain versions of this can be unlocked to work with any SIP provider. Depends how much you value your time I guess!

I'm a regular user of the Linksys PAP2, which appears to be the better device but more expensive - check ebay for unlocked ones.

I would not buy this unless you intend to use with vonage. I have one and have unlocked it....but it is quite hard to unlock and then after you have done that, you have to programme it using XML files via TFTP. It is better to get a Linksys PAP2.
