Arrgh this is so tempting!!

I need to buy a decent desktop PC for photo editing but when you look at the oomph you get in laptops like this for the money it makes me wonder if it's worth bothering...
#3
Edit
Soory, did not reduce the warranty

Depends if you want to dish out again to replace the whole thing again in two years time or be able to gradually upgrade and never actually make another all out purchase again.

If you have the room and some basic technical capability, personally, I'd go with the desktop. My laptop only compliments my main 'puters.

If you customise it you can add a wireless n network card for free.

Rather than the older b/g one.

COrrect me if I'm wrong but n is faster.

Free shipping expires 26th may, £30 off expires 23rd of June.
#12
Felix 360 bang on you can add a wireless n network card for free. Does anyone know if these are backwardly compatible with b/g ?

they're all designed to be backwards compatible seeing as most routers provided by broadband suppliers are only wireless G

Thanks all ordered one of these for my Dad been waiting a while for a good laptop deal :-)
#15
I know nothing about wireless so which wireless card should I select? I got a Virgin router if that makes any difference.

Select the n. It will work with any router as said previous it is backwards compatible.
Once you switch it on it will automatically find your network...just input your network passcode (assuming you set it up with one) and off you go

Just in terms of battery life, not quite electrical enough to work it for myself.

Alter the warranty?

I'd say you needed to upgrade it with the following:

256 MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 9300M GS Graphic Card £60

This then makes it only an 'ok' deal imo. The 3gb memory is attractive but when buying laptops it's better to buy one with really cheap memory (i.e. 512mb or 1gb) and just upgrade it yourself for next to nothing. It's an easy job to do and can save loads of ££s.

Where else can you get a Core 2 Duo 2.1Ghz, 1440x900, 15" laptop for £350 from? And Dell are usually considered to be among the premium brands; like HP, Toshiba & Sony. Unlike the Acers, Packard Bells and Advents of this world...

Hi, I am looking for a decent laptop to take on a boat and load charts etc onto, also need wifi, the main issue I would have is I won't have 240v to charge just the 12v supply with cigarette type chargers.

Will this charge OK on a 12v system, and if so do I need to buy anything extra like a charge lead ? and any ideas how long the battery would last ?

Thanks HC

this looks a great deal.

Can you use Quidco (6%) on this?

£395 for me with basic warranty and no additions? what am I doing wrong!

The T3400 processor is particularly weak, and the screen resolution is only 1280x800 compared with 1440x900, and it's more than £100 more expensive. Sony laptops avoid...:?

Thanks for the feedback, was tempted by the 20% cashback which almost brings it on a par, though value for money seems this Dell will be hard to beat.

Anyone got one of these? Had a Vostro 100 for the other half through a deal posted on year a while ago, perfectly fine for what it is, just the casing is a horrible plasticty type, presume this is the same?

Remember to remove the 30 days Norton Trial... why would you want Norton, at all, even for free?!?!?!
#36
May seem like a stupid question, but can you buy from here if you are buying for personal use (and do not own/ work for a small business).

Just that I dont see why they would have a seperate section. Is it due to VAT or something?

It's only got vga out, so makes the £280 upgrade for the blu-ray drive a waist of money. :w00t:
