Heat added. Good news for Waitrose shoppers.

I agree - lets hope it means we dont have to scrabble about hunting out free del codes for Asda / Tesco from now on and they deliver for free. Read in the Financial mail that these supermarkets make around £50 MILLION every year from DELIVERY charges alone! If I cant get a free del code I just dont order! Roll on free dels from all, for all...

Good news, Will more than likely order now

Really? I always thought it was unlikely that a measly fiver would cover their expenses - van, delivery bloke, fuel. Still, they make more than enough profit on the damn prices.

Absolutely agree. Isn't it terrible how all these companies think they have a right to make a profit at our expense

I doubt if Waitrose's actions are going ti impact Asda's pricing policy; they operate in slightly different markets;-) You never know though.....

I think 'MAKE' just means turnover, sure the delivery services end up costing them more than they charge!

Funny how everyone always wants people to do something for nothing! ;) Of course we want to pay as little as we can, but at what cost? These companies aren't stupid and aren't going to lose money delivering the service in general. Waitrose mark-up on food will be more than Tescos and Asda, and the only way Asda/Tesco could offer permanent free delivery was if they increased prices slightly elsewhere to compensate.

In Misc for some reason http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/379286/free-delivery-offered-by-waitrose-m/ :?

It wouldn't take many items to get over 50 quid! :whistling:

Waitrose price-match Tesco on many lines, and also do plenty of stuff you wouldn't get anywhere else so savings to be made with judicious selection.

Delivery is easy money for supermarkets , they organise the deliveries to given areas charging for every delivery regardless . We had a delivery last week , fellah told me that his van alone cleared nearly £400 a day , it was that efficiently run .

Interesting move - we have just had a two week free delivery trial with Ocado who I believe are a seperate company who deliver goods from Waitrose stores. After the trial ends you revert to their standard monthly charge of £8.99 as month for as many deliveries as you wish. I was never going to take it up anyway, but this offer is great news. Thanks OP.

Having recently acquired a Waitrose where our Somerfield used to be, this is great news.

Cheers OP!

Pity that Waitrose don't deliver to me. I have to use Ocado and they don't have free delivery. Anyway, the free bottle of wine and newspaper with each delivery makes up for the charge somewhat.

The bad news is that if you are in an Ocado area, Waitrose won't deliver to you, but will just pass you over to Ocado who, as you say, charge either per delivery or by subscription. And it's not even 'as many deliveries as you wish'. They have to be at least £40 worth. 'Great for the occasional top-up shop' the Ocado blurb says. Yeah, like I spend £40 every time I do a 'top-up shop'.

I've had both Ocado and Waitrose deliver. There is a Waitrose in town that cover the area and Ocado cover everywhere.

great deal, although waitrose prices seem to be dearer then elsewhere.
#20
there is a £15 voucher for existing customers....

just placed an order last night....

I cannot believe that Waitrose have a flamin store in DUBAI and not one in Glasgow, the biggest city in Scotland. They only have one Scottish store and it's in Ediburgh. grrrr

We've been using Tesco home delivery since August and have not paid once for delivery yet. Most weeks we use vouchers that save us more than the a actual delivery costs itself.

So technically you have paid for delivery, but the cost of this is negated by the vouchers you have applied to get a discount on the items purchased? Or have you always had a free delivery code/discount?

If they price match isn't it the same, not cheaper? I find that it is better to actually go to the Waitrose by me because it always has stuff reduced, don't know why that is... you can then get stuff cheaper that way!

Waitrose use by dates are sometimes a week away from purchase

Tesco/Asda delivers produce that expires that day or tomorrow (sometimes mouldy before that!)

Look at their meat sections (Waitrose -blood red/moist beef) (Tesco/Asda - brownish/chewy beef and ghost white pork!)

I am not a food snob but I had numerous deliveries/instore shops from Tesco/Asda and swapped to Waitrose since the food tastes better/lasts longer and isn't rotting on its way to my house

Quality needs to be taken into account before comparing prices

Yeah technically we pay for the delivery which is normally less than £5 and use voucher codes which are often around £10 - sometimes more!

We normally order about £90-100 a week from Tesco's and a few weeks ago we had a voucher code for £10 off a £50 spend so instead of making one order for the usual amount we split the order into two orders of £50 with the exact same time slot so we could use the voucher twice. We were doing that for a few weeks, the delivery man thought we were nuts!

Last month they were letting you use two voucher codes, instead of just one, and we were getting about £18.50 off!

Here's where I get the delivery codes from:

Cool, good call. I just assumed most of these vouchers only applied for your first shop as that's all I seem to have seen.

No, it's cheaper because this deal is about free delivery.
