Artistic genius, political activist, painter and decorator, mythic legend or notorious graffiti artist? The work of Banksy is unmistakable, except maybe when it’s squatting in the Tate or New York’s Metropolitan Museum. Banksy is responsible for decorating the streets, walls, bridges and zoos of towns and cites throughout the world.

Witty and subversive, his stencils show monkeys with weapons of mass destruction, policeman with smiley faces, rats with drills and umbrellas. If you look hard enough you’ll find your own. His statements, incitements, ironies and epigrams are by turns intelligent and cheeky comments on everything from the monarchy and capitalism to the war in Iraq and farm animals.

His identity remains unknown, but his work is prolific. Here's the best of his work in a fully illustrated colour volume – including brand material.

Banksy fans might prefer this other paperback version:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wall-Piece-BANKSKY/dp/3939566098/ref=tmm_pap_title_1

It's more expensive at £12.99, 99p more than the h/b version even, but this one has about 40 more pages, even though it's ostensibly the same book. Much though I prefer hardbacks, I've had both of these, have counted the pages, and have kept the paperback copy. HTH.

although his art is good i'd have to hide this book if i had it, as leaving this on your coffee table just makes you look like such a try hard nitwit who wears their trousers below their balls.

Nathan Barley totally summed up this culture

Anything original in the history of modern art invented by Banksy? No. Unkown? No. A true anarchist or rebel? Just a mega rich man making tons of money every year while the world goes down in recession. Apart from rich buyers being told what to buy and Joe BLog victims of current hype, this particular stencil guy has been passe for years. Not as bad as talentless and demonic non-artist known as Hirst though, yet! lol. If it's a mass popular fashion and design industry, then it is not art anymore.

Dare I say that he has a team of artists whom he instructs to execute the work. In the same way that Hirst does for his spot paintings.

Gonna get this though.....
