This is awful by all accounts but a good price nonetheless.

I heard it was incredibly misogynistic

One female particularly, Janice (Lorna Scott), the manager of the (male) lead character (Wesley Gibson played by James McAvoy), is hated but Wesley does pity her situation (and says as much in the dialogue spoken to her).

The lead character's girlfriend has a few scenes, but the majority of the female on-screen presence is held by Angelina Jolie & there isn't any hate towards her in the movie.

Periphery female characters are also present, but no misogynistic behaviour is demonstrated as far as I can tell & I've watched this a few times (when it has been on Sky Movies).

("Wanted 2" is due to be released next year. Jolie's character was initially rumoured to be returning [as unlikely as that seems given the outcome of the first film]).

I just used Google to find the following quote from Peter Bradshaw's review at guardian.co.uk on 25 June 2008...

Peter Bradshaw
I have to say I don't think I've seen a film recently which expresses hatred of women quite so openly, and fervently, as this one. In a way, Wes's boss is the most vivid female character in the film, more powerfully and pointedly conceived than the others: more than Wes's horrible, duplicitous girlfriend, who gets to be humiliated by seeing Wes kissing Fox and more than Fox herself, who is basically an honorary male. This is a film where womankind is represented by irrelevant sleek babes and obese comic foils, an ugly *****house aesthetic which really does sock over its contempt for femaleness very, very powerfully indeed.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm watching the same films as so-called professional critics.

here's one critical opinion on it:

All I can say is that that reviewer seriously has some issues!

How someone can see something like that in a film like Wanted is just astonishing.....:?

This was posted already - just over a week ago: http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/651100/wanted-blu-ray-6-99-hmv

As for the film itself, I didn't think it was mysogynistic, just very, very disappointing. None of the main characters were likeable. The trailers mis-sold it as some sort of techy action romp, when it was actually a pretty mean spirited film. I watched it once and that was enough. Picture quality on the blu-ray is pretty good though.

I thought the same after originally looking forward to watching in the cinema, missing it (for one reason or another), & then finally catching it when it premiered on Sky Movies.

I was glad I didn't pay cinema prices to see it, and I was also glad I didn't pay almost £20 for the Steelbook edition of the Blu-ray Disc when that was still available.

When I did watch the film the first time I thought I started to lose interest in the plot but stuck out to the end in the hope it would get better. One of my kids wanted to see it & I recall relaying afterwards that it wasn't worth watching.

However, I've managed to see it two or three times since (with Sky repeating movies frequently) & although I would never describe it as a great movie, it is probably worth around £6.99 (or £5.99 as mentioned in the now expired deal listing you quoted) to me to buy it (if I wanted to... erm, no pun intended).

If it had been the "techy action romp" as you described then it would have been so much more fun to watch. Unfortunately, an ample cast was in place (although I didn't really warm to James McAvoy), and the Director/Production was adequate, but the story let it down.

Hopefully the next in the franchise will improve on what could be an interesting character if scripted better.

PS. The soundtrack was good! :)
