Damn hot deal on this when you consider that it's free postage as well.

Check here for some more detailed specs. http://www.mobileplace.co.uk/product/wayfinder-gps.html

How does the sirf star 3 chipset really compare to the different ones available. Is it really that much better ?

In my experience - no. It might be of extra benefit if you're using it for anything else that TOMTOM on your mobile.

The reason I ask is that I am currently using a NAVMAN 8 channel bluetooth receiver, however it is not the best for picking up the signal when it is switched on, can take a good few minutes. Just wondering if it is justifiable upgrading.

I was considering one of the holux ones with the fast start option that you can get from a popular auction site for about £40 but I have seen dedicated gps units for not a heck of a lot more than that now.

BTW, this site isn't anything to do with ORANGE and is actually owned and operated by the Caudwell group of John Caudwell.

If you read the spec I added earlier you'll see that the cold start time is about 42 seconds and the warm start time is about 38 seconds. SO, whatever happens it's going to take about 30 seconds to acquire an uplink, which is about the norm.

Yeah I seen that - ty, which is still quicker than mine, however just wondering if it is justifiably more reliable.

The Sirf III chipset is still one of the best on the market. It works indoors (most of the time), under tree cover, in woods and so on....

This is an absolute Bargain. Heat and Rep added!

Only if you allow your phone to do so! Using Maploader with my Nokia N95 I used wifi to download all the maps I needed. They're not updated very often.

The link has gone as they have no more. i missed out.
#22
Has this expired? Cant seem to find it on their site?
#23
Yes, the deal has expired.

The Sirf Star III is one of the best chipsets on the market. I've got a receiver with the same chipset and the coverage is fantastic, it even picks up Satellites from inside the house.
#25
same thing is £23.99 delivered from play.com
with 12 monts software updates included

Great piece of kit too, I got one the other day, works very well with Tom Tom software on my XDA phone running WIndows mobile.
I dunno how to post new offers, feel free to do so if this is any use :)

Anyone got a link to another cheap one of these? Been looking for one for ages.
#27
I think theres a link above your post Eru

I bought one of these from play over Christmas. The GPS works great with my Nokia 6630 and you would struggle to get a GPS on its own for this price. But the software will be expensive unless you already have some GPS software or know some one who has. Also Nokia do free mapping software on their sight although I've not tried it myself.
So ditch the software and just use the GPS!
