Just take the hard drive out and out in your PC m8
#4
Well I was thinking that - but these will be IDE not SATA will they not?
#5
I would think they will be SATA you cant get 1tb IDE drives ?
#6

The one thing to be aware of (without starting a "this manufacturer is better than that one" debate) - there are a lot of bad reviews of drives failing on this model.

Drives fail for ALL manufacturers, but its possible there is an issue with the drive in these causing higher failure rates...

Not really an issue as long as you ensure to take backups.
#14
The Firewire version of this drive does have issues and won't daisy chain - so overall seems to be issues with the MyBook range

This would mean I need to buy two so I can backup my backup:w00t:

True enough :)

Don't you just love technology:roll:

I've had the 750GB version for a year without any problems so far.

I have owned this drive for about six months and it has been working fine for me, easy to setup, re-formatted it to NTFS for better compatibility and its been working like a dream, very quiet and unintrusive :)

Western Digital have a good name for themselves for storage as do Iomega, like has already been mentioned all drive models have a percentage failure rate and I imagine that the quantitiy of reports of drive failures on this model is relational to the the quantity of drives sold. Western Digital will have sold many units and people generally only winge about problems rather than sing the praises :whistling:

It is probably also worth pointing out that it is an EXTERNAL drive to complement a static PC setup and not a portalble drive to be taken from place to place :)

On the whole this is a pretty good external drive, IMHO

Is it just me, or is the PCW price promise a bit pointless.

"This applies to prices offered by retailers within 30 miles of your local PC World store.

The product must be identical, in stock and available for immediate home delivery in one of the retailers detailed below - single unit purchases only. "

If it needs to be within 30 miles, then it isn't likely to be for home delivery is it?

By the way, we have been running my books at work for a year or two mow with no failures.

They won't be the 1TB drive models though so you can't compare. :whistling:

Did a bit of searching on Google and previous posters are correct...these drives appear to be unreliable.

I wouldn't want to risk losing 1TB of data so won't be touching these drives.

Garma Garam. I got a WD My Book Mirror 1TB before christmas but have not opened it yet as I don't need it. It's got RAID so gives an extra piece of mind with that a user servicability with it.
