it's 1 x 4TB on this model. other models do have 2x2TB think they are the mirror versions.

If you know anyone who purchased before get them to check their email. I believe that the code is there. My friend purchased a while ago and had a code. I asked him for it.. I did check online before asking him and all the codes are old ones like WDFRIEND or WDSUMMER..
You never know someone reading this may be kind enough to add a code to the thread.. ;)

I think I got the last one!
#8
will this work on an Xbox one?
#9
I bought a recert drive on Dec 29th.

Just tried the code I got in the email and doesn't work. Meant to expire 30 days after email date.

Code looks like it's unique (random characters)

Cold without a code!

Agreed. Appreciate the post but saying discount with a code but not quoting that code doesn't really make much sense :(

Some codes like 40% off only work on NEW products. The one I used was for 1x item only.. (As at that price two would have been tempting) or a 2TB 2.5"

10% off first order doesn't work the unique code they sent me doesn't work at all.

Think warranty that short better off paying full price....

will this work on an Xbox one?

Yes but will need to be powered separately

They also have the Elements Desktop drives that are slightly cheaper. 4tb is £71.99

yeah its stupid, the code you get given is only for the US site! even though you are on the uk section of their website when you sign up for the discount.

The site USED to be simple to navigate and find what you wanted. Now it barely functions and if your lucky you can find what you want.. Goodness knows why they changed it and it must be costing them in sales for doing it.
Is it worth asking them vua message about the code.. they are possibly ignorant to the fact that the codes sent to UK people don't validate.. Have you tried adding it in the USA store and applying the code. (Just to prove it's that?) My friends code was over 6 Months old before the site changed. I also purchased a drive before he did. But I don't ever recall getting a code myself. :(

are the drives red's or green?

Worth remembering you only get 6 months limited warranty on recertified products. And it seems now WD do enforce it unlike in the past, when you would get a new hard drive with full retail 2-3 year warranty inside.

They ought to be done under Trade's Description then as the drive is clearly not recertified to be of the same level as a new drive.

I did check mine from the serial.. it stated August 2017. I have one I brought a while ago. but I've not checked it. I thought they used to adopt the warranty of the original or 6 months.. whichever was greater.

Run spinrite on soon as you get it. If it looks ropey send it back.

Is it wise to trust a recertified 4tb? All that data

You should be backing up anyway, if you value your data. Even a new drive can fail on you so that's a moot point..

Or just run HD Sentinel which will report full smart data.

If it's like the older mybooks then sure. It's just clipped together with plastic hooks. There's a youtube video out there showing how to open them.

once i remove the drive from the enclosure, will the encryption "issue" go away?
#35
If someone has encrypted the HDD, I dont think removing it from the case will remove the encryption...
That woud be pointless HDD encryption and no selling point. Like having a lock on the mobile phone case but then once you open the case the phone is unlocked.
If you got it from WD then it wont be encrypted in a way you can't see the data. If you purchased it second user then you may be able to WIPE the drive to remove the encrypted data.. (If your lucky)
#36
i shouldve been clearer.

i am thinking about buying one of these and removing the enclosure to put it in my pc (as an internal hdd). would the hdd's encryption cause an issue?

Ok, I think the software is optional to install and encrypt. (As such you enable it) so this should just work as a standard HDD if you remove it without using the encryption software.
I'm sure I just skipped that when installing it so mine is not encrypted.
#38
Can someone clarify? Do these have 2.5 or 3.5 inch drives in the casing?

It's 3.5", otherwise they'd be classed as portables.
