Remember postage. £3.99 looks like the cheapest option.

Does this have an on/off switch? Anyone own this unit? If it's 1.5 TB what's the actual space available? Thanks in advance.

I have the 2TB version, and there is no on/off switch.

I think it auto spins down though. I have the 1TB version.

I've got the 1TB version and it doesn't have an on/off switch. Also no backup software etc.

Thanks, it's still on - surprised this isn't hotter! After cashback it's only a smidge more £/GB than the £95 2TB, even after delivery. I was almost going to get that but really don't need the extra space so this is perfect.

Re. Computerman's post, the Verbatim seems to be slower and I would have slightly more faith in WD for long-term reliability, and the Seagate seems to be the least reliable drive they've ever produced. And with experience of both retailers I really wouldn't place Play.com as 'better' than Misco, although I still use them a lot.

This is Hot! :)

(Deal price should be £74.67 though, VAT gets added to the P&P)

Yeah.....even the so called eco drives!!
I can't understand why these big corps can't simply add on a red/green diode switch so you can save energy & to prolong life & reliability.
...you don.t think they want us to buy more...??
Nah Can't be cos they're regulated responsible and caring right??

I have a software called nosleephd that writes a blank text file every 15 minutes(user specifiable) and keeps the hard disk from going to sleep works nice on a iomega and seagate external HD drive..Maybe this helpsX)

Why not just turn off auto-spin down?

PC World are currently selling the 1tb version for a 'web exclusive' price of £51.99 - I did a [email protected] reservation on my phone while in the shop, then took it to the till and quoted my reservation number. Usually £59.99 in-store price. You may be able to get Quidco too.

Couldn't you write a simple bat file and add a scheduled task to do exactly the same thing ? I hope you didn't pay for it!

Good Deal, I paid Amazon about £45 for the 500GB version 2 months ago and now I wish I'd held on! It's a nice drive though, quick and reliable.

Bat file is also possible but this program with GUI makes it much more simpler and is free as well...:)
