Don't forget Quidco 2% or TopCashBack 3%! (This works with Collect In Store; make sure they type the reference number into their system.)

#18
will currys match the price?
#19
I'm guessing this is an older model than the 'WD My Passport' - it looks a bit more angular, no rounded edges.
#20
Good price for a good drive.
#21
Is it possible to remove the drive from the caddy?

I'm planning to buy this to upgrade the drive in my laptop, then I could use my old laptop drive in the caddy.
#22
Excellent drive and price.

I've just tried it on an Asus Oplay media player and Wii, works a treat.

Thanks OP!
#23
You can easily take it out caddy, 2yr warranty instead of 3yrs on non-portable one
#24
So.....are these effectively both the same. Any ideas about the 1TB (other style that was posted for £63). Ant difference apart from size , oh and just checking it does work with windows 7?

They all support Win 7, will support OSX too...i have both OS running fine on them.
Opening caddy is piece of cake....caddy can be re-used for any other 2.5
#27
Just ordered 1 form the Bolton store. Been after a portable hard disc for all my pics for some time.

Great find. R&H added!

Please can you post some instructions on opening the Caddy?

It seems a steal to buy one of these rather than a standard 2.5" drive from PC World as they charge about £80 for a drive with no caddy.

thanks in advance

Use a thin strip of metal or flat small specs screwdriver.....or get your missus to use her nails...
if they break don't blame me...:)

Once the bottom casing is off just pop out drive..take connector off and u have a new 2.5 drive for your laptop 500Gb an all:) Done it for 320Gb which i got for 45 quid.

There are a couple of differences.
1. The Passport Essentials has a usb drive inside. In other words the drive lacks a SATA interface and has the usb interface attached directly to the drive inside, so you cannot crack it open and use it in your laptop. This makes for a smaller, compacter drive and in theory, the lack of a SATA-usb bridge should speed up access to data. My guess is that the USB interface, in any case, is the larger bottleneck, so I doubt it would make any real world difference.
2. The cable to the P Essentials is micro-usb. This is the new standard for charging mobile phones, so cables should become more common. As of now, if you break or lose your connecting cable, you may have to hunt around for a new one. Probably best to go to CW or P4U if you have to. The Elements uses the more common mini-usb.

The Passport Elite has a set of flashing lights telling you how much of the drive's capacity has been taken up.
#36
Thanks, had the 320gb Passport on order from amazon, but this elements seems hard to find at the moment anyway.
#37
Good price - reserved one from Watford this morning and collected this PM. They didn't appear to have any more on the shelf @ 4pm.

Let me know if you decide to not have it as Bolton is a lot closer than where I have reserved it from. :whistling::)

Aylesbury and Northampton have it in stock if anybody is interested... had checked to see if it was easier to get my fellas mum to pick one up in Milton Keynes but they were out of stock so thought it worth mentioning on here that they seem to be in stock in the others.

I cannot find any reviews of this drive. Can someone that has bought one review it here please?

Was going to buy an LG XD2 drive but this is slightly cheaper.

Thanks.
