Just picked up one of these from Currys Glasgow, I reserved it online and got it for the same price online. :)

Should put the price in the title.

It's cheaper at Amazon inc delivery so not so sure this is a 'hot' deal - just a normal price for an in store good (slightly higher than online).

I got it for £44.99, when i reserved it for instore collection

But the point jazzy639 is trying to make is that it's £42.70 delivered from Amazon

Cheaper from Amazon as has been said - but not bad for in store pick-up - personally I'd rather deal with Amazon any day.

Had issues with these drives. Google for "wd elements write protected" and you'll see several results describing the same issue.

I've had one for a few months. Works like a charm, solid piece of kit. For this price it's obviously not the fastest but for most speed won't be an issue.

Interesting

I didn't know of this issue

Is there any way to protect against this?......Apart from not all eggs in one basket

I wouldnt care too much about files being write protected. If they are still readable then your data can be copied to another drive. I would worry more about drives bricking which is total data loss. That is why should backup everything at least twice or 3x.

Btw, the 2TB version is 65 at amazon, just an extra 20 for double the storage well worth it IMO.

Doing some reading on the write protected issue, it seems that the drive becomes completely in readable by any OS forever. There is no fix available or a preventive measure. I've just bought one home from work (Currys) but I'm pretty certain it's going back. I saw the WD my book world 1TB for 69 perhaps that would be better.

Fab deal, had mine couple of months. Decided to allocate one day to back up my data and install windows 7 (which i'd had for a few months and was too lazy to do it sooner!). Filled my other Portable so needed another one that afternoon, reserved online, got it 20 minutes later.

Being a good deal isn't just about the price. If you can not wait, for the sake of a couple of extra pounds in my opinion this is excellent.
