Just bought one of these in St Helens for £99.97, they had at least two left judging by the empty boxes on the shelf. They had a banner above saying huge reductions on storage or something similar. Probably not going to be loads about but thought I'd post as it may be useful for somebody and I thought it was a bargain considering was just about to buy a 1tb elements hdd in Tesco for £65.

What's the point of posting an odd store specific item unless there are plenty left? Note voting, btw.

What's the point of posting anything on this website, just incase the stock runs out before you get to buy one? Some people may benefit, that's the only reason I posted it. Thought I'd try and give something back after all the bargains I've had on here. Couldn't give a toss about this getting heat or coldness to be honest.

I don't know if it is store specific, I only went in to the one store and they were there. By the way, if anybody wants to phone around their PC World stores the SKU code is 0000725092.

Well put!! What I would say is could you please put the store name - PC WORLD - in the Title, it helps for quick understanding!

Cheers :)

P.S Good find H&R

I think these deals are incredibly stupid and a waste of everyones time. Just because one store is letting a couple of EOL products slip out cheaply, dosent make it a nationwide UK deal worth the front page of this site.

If your close enough to pick one of these up, then great deal... If not keep looking. Heat added

How do we know if it is just available in a couple of stores without posting the deal?

It may well be nationwide !

I suppose we could phone the retailer and ask them (although that would probably highlight misprices).

I'm beggared if I would drive around the country myself to check for the sake of some grumpychopses.
#11
^^ Well its common knowledge really that most of the time the EOL *.97p deals are store-specific.
#12
My point is we dont know how many stores are flogging the at this price unless a few HUKDers check it out.
#13
Prices ending with .97 in PCWorld/Currys/Dixons are clearance items and not likely to be nationwide. I have nothing against someone posting but it's a lot of work for nothing imo. (Unless you want to show off: Oh look what bargain i've got, LOL)

So why do you waste your time in posting comments on such deals!
There’s a danger that you end up looking stupid and not the deal. :p

I'm no expert on how these things work but is a WD 2tb My Book drive likely to be a clearance item?
#16
Well i'm one HUKDer who likes to see these post, because every now and again it's in my area and I can get a bargain!! Without these posts I wouldn't have got the deals, so why not.... this is a sharing community and I'd rather see a user of HUKD get a bargain than any tom, dick or harry!!

Agreed

At the very least the op said there were 2 left so even if only 2 of us get a deal then why not.

If you head to PC World & dont get one then thats the way the game goes (& it is a bit of a game innit ).

If it wasnt for people posting the .97p items on here from pc world I wouldnt have a shelf full of Duracell batteries.

Combine that with a few purchases from this deal, cancel the milk & papers then lock your doors :w00t:

If it's a nationwide price, it's a nationwide deal, regardless of stock. If you personally can't ever get any clearance deals then it's down to staff at your local store snapping them up (or maybe there's a HUKD user who lives round the corner from the store who goes and buys everything the minute it appears on the site, who knows).

My local Currys regularly has these clearance deals, yet the PC World 200 yards away in the same retail park never has anything...

great price, its 130 from amazon, but its a bad device. when you attach it, it annoyingly pops up with 2 connections, one is storage, the other is a 500gb VCD full of rubbish! i wanted to attach it to my NAS but it would only see the read only VCD, i couldnt remove this partition and was a wast eof 500gb! the transfer rate was slow as well

If PCW decides to stop stocking them, or, WD marks the product end of line (e.g. there's a new version coming out), then it'll go from .99 to .98 and then to .97. After it's been at .97 for a while, if the store has stock left, the goods will be written off and the item values deducted from the stores account - so stores want to get rid of them!

Normally, once an item is .97 like this, most stores have managed to get rid of them. The pricing WILL be nationwide - it's just that the stock likely isn't!

Damn if only this had been posted a little earlier. I just drove all the way to Comet (opposite PC World) and bought a 1.5TB HDD for £80!

Spot on - rep added.

Rep added for the poster for sharing it with people. You can't blame the op for the legion of HUKDs who heat deals that don't exist for them.

None in scotland phoned pc world in braehead and they done a regional check for scotland none.

Works fine for me, just shown as 1.81TB formatted in FAT32, which will be getting changed to NTFS so I can use it for HD films on my Revo HTPC. Should keep me going for a while.

Clearly Mayo77 has benefited. Good deal have some heat and thanks for posting (even though I'm not going to shop for this one).

It looks like the 2tera is going to be the new 1.5tera pretty soon.

Err... they do - if you buy the firewire versions, which you you pay an extra premium for. I've got a few of the older style firewire versions.

Latest models:

No they are not. In my local store they are priced at 159.99, reduced from 179.99 and they had plenty of stock.

1tb was £95 last year

Looks like they are getting rid of these large HD's now that USB 3.0 is released, going to wait for a nice 2TB USB 3.0 version.

the end of last year and that! wow HDD seem in free fall speed right now.
