States in the product description that it is usb 2.
Is the pics posted above with the item in hand SHOWING USB 3.0 printed on the BOX not proof enough?

Congratulations on showing that you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

Go and learn the difference between a desktop drive and a portable drive, and then you might be able to make a useful contribution.

What is the model number of the enclosed HD? 7200rpm or 5400rpm? Many thanks.
#3
It states 7200rpm if you click through.

Thanks, just saw that too. What is the HD model? I wish to find the full spec.

QuidCo 1.5% applies?

Is this usb2 or usb3?
#6
there is no way its 7200rpm
this is a small 2.5" drive only 5200 rpm at best

it is 7200rpm and is usb3 - bought for Xbox one at £85 this is a real bargain tempted to get a 2nd!
#8
Be careful here. The first pic on the Argos site is a Passport Ultra and the other pics are of the standard 'My Passport'

#justsaying ;-)
#9
states clearly usb2 and 7200. would prefer usb3 and 5200rpm. Filllng 2tb @ 26mbs ...urgghh.
#10
These won't work with a ps4 according to a few peeps on here as the intensely drive is all soldered and awkward to get out of its casing.

Heat for those in need of more storage otherwise :)

I picked one up in Kilmarnock yesterday & received the 'Ultra' + £5 gift voucher :D

Deal already posted here

See this other hotukdeals thread. It is a lottery whether you get an Ultra or a normal Passport drive if you pick up from a store.

2TB My Passport at Argos ebay

The 2TB models are USB3.
The My Passport model is apparently fitted with a 5400rpm drive. The Ultra model is probably fitted with same drive.

These are all usb 3 - the description is wrong and some of the photos are wrong. The photo in post 15 is the actual product!

Good deal and great as external drives, the power they draw is very low and can be used all way back to a 2004 iBook just through a single USB port.

I think it's 5400. I tried running a Windows Virtual Machine from it on a new Mac and it was very slow - compared to SSD speeds running an OS from a hard drive just doesn't cut it.

For storage of an iTunes library (what mine is now used for) the speed is fine, and transfer rates of files that's also relatively fast.

Errrr, you can 100% get 7.2k 2.5" hdd's!!

See:

http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Storage/cat/Hard-Drive---Internal/subcat/2.5%22-SATA-Drives?a00084=7200

However you are correct as it seems the largest is 1tb!!

**EDIT**
Seagate seem to have made a 2tb 7.2k drive, no doubt silly money though :-(

Would this be ok to use to back up my MacBook? It won't boot into iOS so will have to use the recovery tool.
Thanks

I want to attach a hard drive to my tv to watch movies would this usb powered one be ok? I thought maybe a mains powered one but that would make it harder to add movies from the laptop trying to find a mains outlet next to laptop etc. If mains was definitely the way to go, then I would except that slight hassle. Any help please?

Can I plug this into my router? Want a hd and can access wirelessly ?

@potatokid

Depends on which brand/model TV you have? My Samsung for example has two types of USB. One is rated at 5V 0.5A the other is specifically labelled USB HDD 5V 1A which is the port you would use for a HDD like this that doesn't have its own power source.

Hope that helps?

the website is a little confusing the first picture on the website is of the ultra drive which is 7200rpm the rest of the pictures are of the standard passport drive which is a 5400rpm drive - the ultra drive is still listed as full price so the first picture is wrong, this is just the passport drive, not as great a deal as first thought

Three of the eight images display show the text "Ultra" on the product.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER ....
Look at here all 18 of these idiots on eBay queing to buy 2TB USED basic edition of toshiba HDD or £49.20 (currently at the time of posting and there is still 5 hours left) e.g. £45.10 + £4.10 p&P = £49.20 ...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toshiba-2TB-External-Portable-Hard-Drive-Stor-E-Basics-HDD-USB-2-3-/331389427806?pt=UK_Computing_HardDrives_RL&hash=item4d2859605e

In this game if you are just following the crowd without doing your own bits, e.g research, you will be the looser ...

I find that with McDonald's Corporation (so-called) restaurant food.
