Lowest it has ever been and about the best drive 3TB under £100.

Flubit is your friend too.

•WD Red hard drives are designed and tested for compatibility in the unique 24x7 operating environment and demanding system requirements of home and small office NAS.
•Western Digital claims that these tweaks result in a 35 per cent MTBF (mean time between failures) improvement over standard desktop drives, and is quick to point out that the optimisation ultimately reduces the long-term cost of NAS ownership

Good price.Would this be ok in a drive with a WD green drive? Also would this be good for use with raid?

G8spur - not sure what you mean by the first question.

But this drive is tweaked for NetworkAttachedStorage (nas) use, meaning it can be left on 24/7 with no worries. It would be fine as a drive for normal computer use, although slightly more expensive than you need with the wd Green drives available, again the Green or red drives will be fine in a USB enclosure.

Just bad typing! I have a 2 port NAS enclosure with a 3tb WD green in. I'm looking to add another 3tb drive so I can RAID them.

What I wanted to know is do the drives need to match, and is there any benefit in a WD red over Green for this puprose.

Thanks

it depends on your specific NAS, in theory its fine, but I've been looking at this a lot recently (after buying a 4bay NAS and looking for suitable drives) somewhat counter-intuitively it seems that the green drives are not intended for use in NAS devices!

.. hot deal though, great price for this disk. Perhaps buy two of these for your NAS, and use the green drive in your computer as a secondary (ie not for the boot / OS ) drive.

RAID 1 generally isn't fussy about the types of drive you use, so long as they're the correct capacity. The green drive isn't really the best choice for an array, though... You might want to disable head parking via WDIDLE3 on the green drive before you begin (even if you don't end up putting it in an array, you should really do that if you're using it in a NAS anyway)
