get 8tb for this price plus it wasn't that long ago you were getting the wd green 5tb elements drives for £90, sorry but cold for me, maybe a consideration at £125.

Even 3tb portable hard drives are £80 x2 = £160

You're right, hard drive prices are ridiculous imo. They just don't seem to go down at the rate of other technologies. Perhaps that's because there's not much in the way of advancements in the HDD market.

I bought 3tb for £82.98 last time on Amazon.

I know it's not the same thing at all, but I was so angry at the lack of a price drop of these WD Red's having bought a couple when they were £180 on Amazon like a year ago, that I switched completely and bought one of these for £143:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-X300-7200RPM-128MB-Drive/dp/B013J7I8WM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474488575&sr=8-1&keywords=toshiba+6tb+hdd

Now they do get hotter than the reds, but I have fans on all my drives. They read and write faster too - I was writing at over 110MB/s for the first time...ever! I get something like 80MB/s absolute peak with the WD Reds (normally 40MB/s). Not sure I could justify ever again spending an extra £60 for another WD Red unless I actually ran a NAS.
