The next gen version of the successful WD TV live. This version has integrated spotify, integrated wireless-N and lots of new features. See review at http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1738/1/

Its only just come out - the next place selling it is amazon who dont seem to have stock but they are doing it at £99.99 so if you can find cheaper!! Remember this is the latest Mark 2 version.

Ordered upon request dabs doesnt have stock either.
#2
I just ordered it, and it said delivery in 1-3 days
#3
Its a pre-order, good price
#4
Is this as good as Apple TV?

Can XBMC be installed on it?
#5
XBMC, no

It can do 1080p, ATV2 can't, is it better ? It depends what you want it to so get more specific.
#6
Ordered great spot I have the WD TV HD and the WD TV HD Live both excellent.
This looks great.
#7
Looks Slick
#8
I've had this for couple of days now.

Forget the Apple TV deal, this literally destroys it.

UI is the newer WD Live Hub one and actually looks decent.
#9
XBMC, no

I'm out :(
#10
Have they fixed auto-framerate on this newer box? Currently the latest WDTV Live firmware doesn't automatically switch to 1080/24p when playing a Bluray rip.

Still no BBCiplayer I see, despite the year old Viewsonic VMP74 having it, which is almost identical inside and even has the same processor - cold (and I own the original WD TV Live Mk 1!)

why is this any better than other players such as the Ac Ryan. It is only usb 2. Am I missing something.
#16
Can anyone recommend a player that has Iplayer and lovefilm?
#17
this link is to the old version?

And you NEED USB3 because?!?!? I play 16gb BR rips on my WDHDLive and its FLAWLESS, am I missing something or do some people insist on features that are just not needed?!?!?

As for the Ryan, I chose the WD based on forum feedback, main thing for me was good support and plenty of forums. Have a look at Canon and Nikon and you will see that sometimes the only difference between two products is personal choice ;)

And one you get it ... make it better by putting custom firmware on it :)
Takes a bit of tinkering if you want movie sheets up etc (search for it on youtube) ... But looks spot on and worth it :)

I'm of the "only divx rips that my PS3 can play" brigade. Does this do anything more than that other than ISO files, BRrips etc?

yeah a PC :D
#23
It'll do MKV, which the PS3 can't natively.
#24
My personal opinion is no. I certainly weighed up the pro's and con's of going the PS3 route before buying my WD. Eventually decided that the extra £130 wasn't really worth it for me as I dont want to clutter the TV stand and use the 360 for what limited game time I get nowadays. As you already have the PS3 and seem happy with the results, Im struggling to see what benefit you'd get over the obvious BRrips (though they do look REALLY nice on 1080p!! ;))

Thats what he said isn't it?? (i.e "other than BRrips"). Seems he knows what formats are lacking on the PS3 and doesnt mind, hence other than pretty moviesheets etc I'd struggle to find a reason to recommend.

fantastic
#27
Still not as good and versatile as a jailbroken ATV2 running XBMC.
#28
"Ordered upon request"? Pretty dumb by them.

Though can't wait for it to come in stock. Wouldn't be my supplier of choice though :S

Ahh, but would you PNC check that with a TNT subtable and a 4ChN0 overlay in order to get the BIOS to match the overflow on the master time key????

Nice find OP, I was just looking at media players on Amazon today.

This version (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Live-Media-Player/dp/B002LZUHMI/ref=dp_ob_title_ce) is the top result for a western digital media player, telling you that it is the newest version of the item. I did a search to see if there was an updated model and I couldn't find any really clear info as to which model was which! Things weren't made any clearer when I found this (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=320) which has the "plus" suffix on the end! It wasn't listed on Amazon as the "plus" model either.

Anyway I'm likely going to buy this. It is definitely the most up to date model from Western Digital, right?
#31
will it play 50gig plus blu-ray isos (3d ones)?
#34
Will purchase when a better retailer has stock

Well you see I would like the latest technology if I am buying a new streamer, such as the new chipset, usb 3 as well as gigabit lan. There are loads of streamers out there and cant see the point of buying a machine with 3 year old technology, I accept that the gui may be good, but that is just the software.

To be honest I'd rather buy a Seagate GoFlex from ebuyer for £45. It plays mkv, mp4, avi, m2ts everything really in 1080p, also does sub-titles on mkv (blu-ray rips).

Does it have cinavia protection?

very cool especially with intergrated spotify

Apart from spotify and bridge files from your pc, what else can it do via the wireless link? Any benefit to it being able to go online apart from being able to update itself easier?
