EDIT: Quidco tracked at £11.39, so a final price of £65.10 delivered is smokin' hot.

Hi, I think this is what I have been looking for?! Not very good on the technology front but will i be able to watch iPlayer etc on this, and what else do i need to go with this to make it work?Obviously it needs to connect to my internet, but are there any other expenses involved? thanks anyone for your help :D

Does it play MKV 720p and 1080p wiht no conversion or transcoding?

Once I went to checkout I saw your point...free delivery in 7 days time or £4.95 to get it next Tuesday. It's only a good deal if you're guaranteed the Quidco, which most likely won't arrive until next spring - if it does at all.
#13
Good price but I'd rather have the AC Ryan, especially after seeing the upcoming firmware with the new GUI...
#14
I like the look of this

What i do now is download film and tv stuff put in on a usb stick and then plug that in to the x-box.

Could i just plug the usb stick in this ?

Does anyone know of anything better
#15
Does this do dts audio?
#16

Yup. I have the original (not the v2 one) and the only time I need to transcode is when the MKV has DTS audio which the original cannot downmix. With this 'Live' version, it can downmix DTS to stereo fine so the only time I can imagine you'll ever need to transcode is if there is some strange h/x264 build variation (doesn't happen often at all) until WD get a firmware update out.

Just got this for my Dad's xmas... bit jealous since I still have the old one with no dts support :-(

For anyone interested this device does not play HD audio so you will not get HD audio even if it is connected to a receiver capable of decoding it.

It will play the core 5.1 track instead (if you have a receiver that supports 5.1 that is)

If it is plugged directly into your tv it will play stero through your tv speakers
#23
reserve and collect only .. so no quidco?
#24
What are the menus like? It's between this and the Apple TV. Like the menus on Front Row on my iMac an wife friendly when she wants to view our photos.

Very good but I don't think the mini does HD video.

For anyone who has a Nintendo Wii and doesn't need HD video, soft mod it to run Wii media center, WiiMC its excellent.

Yes. You can use an ethernet cable or go wireless. For wireless you can either use a wireless dongle or home plugs. I have chosen the latter.

I'm a bit confused, it says it's wi-fi ready so why would you need a dongle?
#28
And also, if you attach a hard drive to the player, would you be able to see the HD on the network?

Yes

You need a dongle for wireless, theres a lot that are compatible.

Awesomeness and Attractiveness.... would highly recommend this. smuch better than the AC Ryan...
#31
This works fine with stereo audio out but I had terrible issues using the optical output - DTS/AC3 tracks were badly out of sync on most of the files I tried.

If you have a look around online this is well documented e.g. http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=2814.0

Works great for stereo but if you are using optical out with dts/ac3 stay away :)

Asus O!Play is a good alternative

Out of stock for home delivery now

If your gonna get a WDTV player get this over the original. My bro has the original and although it is a great player WD have not bothered with any FW updates for months.

I got the AC ryan playon mini this week and it is a great player. You won't go wrong with either media player.
#34
no quidco if you don't pay online.
#35
Anyone received this yet? DHL are being a *word I cannot say*. Procrastinators to say the least...
#36
Funny how this comes back in stock now the cashback is gone :)
