Cold as this is really just a voucher offer for new customers the real price is £87
#5
This is cheaper than the offer at Play - and that voucher has expired anyway
and there must be loads of people who do not have an account with cdiscount.
#6
Good price if the code works. Cold however as deal is not available to everybody.
#7
Great deal ;-) Deserves much more heat than only 90 degrees!

£4 cheaper than the special offer at Play (now expired) which got over 300 heat! http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/383528/showthread.php?t=383528&page=3

Voting HOT HOT HOT, this deal is available to EVERYONE - so long as you can be bothered with making a new account on the site (if you already have one). ;-)

Voucher is working PERFECT and even gives you FREE express delivery.

Rep given and many thanks to dlm136.

Ordered one.

What are you on about?! Fool.
#10
No network access it just plays videos from a hard drive.
#11
Nice bit of kit. Good price too.
Don't forget you may need another hard drive to go with it though (external portable)
#12
Does anyone know if these will play 720p AVCHD-Lite files as created by the new Panasonic TZ7 digital cameras.

Ideally I want something that will stream across the LAN. Anything with the same Sigma chipset in that can stream costs twice as much. Fingers crossed these devices will come down to around the same price soon.

Anyone know if this plays .TS files?

I almost bought one of these on the last post, bought a Popcorn Hour A-110 instead from advanced mp3 players for £189 (using £10 voucher) and I am well chuffed with it, great network media tank plays everything I have thrown at it, and streams 1080p mkv for my PC seemlessly unlike my PS3.

Probably :

"We've also added support for additional file formats like .MTS, .TS and .TP"

I have one of these Western Digital machines - they also play high def mkv seamlessly and have the advantage of being much much cheaper than the popcorn hour machines (which are also good, though pricey)

I thought these cameras creates MOV files. I have a TZ5. It does not play it, but I use a simple convertor to convert to MP4 and play them without loss of quality.

Great deal, Western Digital are a great company, nothing but solid reliability from their hardware in my experience..heard great things about this media player aswell... would have gotten one if I'd known about it before spending over £200 on my popcorn hour. Best HD media player available for that price, it's a steal IMO.

Does the WD stream from your pc? I didnt think it did, it was more the point I was trying to make. Also how do you transfer large MKV files to your external drive, as FAT32 drives are limited to file sizes and NTFS drives have a more limited connectivity.

1) Buy USB to LAN adapter
2) Install 3rd Party Firmware
3) Dance around happy?

NTFS limited connectivity? How so?

It won't be a problem.
#24
Voted hot at this price.
Ive bought one of these as an emergency backup incase my popcornhour ever fails, as the pch is used daily, and id be lost without it. Ive tried a couple of mkv's played off a 16gb usb pen drive, and it seems fine. It will do nicely as a temporary measure if I ever have to order a new pch.

for anyone interested it wont play dts encoded mkv files you need to convert the audio to ac3
#26
I don't think it's a good as an old softmoded xbox with xbmc imho. Plus, if you have your main PC in the living room, just use a long CAT5 cable to the xbox and you are sorted.

It will pass it straight through to the optical out port, into any device you may have the decodes DTS. Most bog standard AV receiver will do it.

Unless you want to play HD media, which is the whole point of this player.

Sorry but:

Power Consumption
Size
Noise
HD Support (mkv etc)
HDMI

Just a few reasons an Xbox can't match this :-)

Glad you confirmed that, that's what I thought. I need to get myself a surround sound setup. Will the DTS Audio pass through HDMI to a receiver or only through optical?

no, it doesn't stream from PC, you're right - but why would anybody want to do that? The simple and best way to use these things is to pop whatever you want to watch onto a USB key - you don't need to use a large external drive... so there is no issue of 'transferring large files to external drive' - you just whack it onto your USB key and then stick the key into the player. NTFS drives don't have more limited connectivity in any sense which is relevant to this

streaming is an alternative, but not easier or quicker - and not worth paying 3x as much for
#36
Western Digital are responding well to user feedback it seems. They've been posting up pre-release versions of the new firmware at AVSForums and tweaking as necessary. The latest beta version is here if anyone wants it: -

http://www.wdc.com/wdtvprerelease/

That one finally turns off the hard drive when the WDTV is powered off, which was one of my 2 main gripes (the other being the DTS issue - I know it does work with a decoder, but I don't have one. :D)

Links two posts up from yours show how to stream files for the cost of a USB LAN adapter

I am going to have to correct you there.....

goto http://www.b-rad.cc and download the latest hacked firmware, get a belkin gigabit usb dongle for £15.00 and setup the 2 config files on the hard drive or pen drive and then you can stream from your network.

It will also allow you to plug in external DVD Players via USB and ply disks that way.

you can play almost any type of video, divx mpeg2, mkv etc etc and all from either a pen drive or a usb hard drive.

It is in fact the Best Gadget I have purchased below £100.00 period..

The network streaming is tempting me to get one of these, as converting MKVs file to play on the 360 is a pain.

So after flashing the firmware are the menus completely changed or is some functionality like network browsing added.

The are piles of cheap USB adapters on e-bay, just trying to find a listing that tells me what chipset is used so that I can check it against the list in the Wiki.
