Various deals

Prices normally vary in different pubs/locations, but I saw the fish and chips with tea/coffee advertised very cheaply at only £1.99.

I am a great fan of Wetherspoons, they cater for everyone and
there is usually a good atmosphere. In my local in Preston they
don't seem to collect glasses until they are running out and there
are not usually enough staff. The food is "OK", you get what you
pay for and the beer is usually served just right. A sale is just the
promotion to get the customers through the door and a Beer Festival
can only be a couple of months away. Voted hot, there's no one
does it better. Thanks for the post and a Happy New Year to you.

I eat in many different establishments and have to say imho JD and Lloyds are the best value for money, when you take into account the quality of the real ales.

Good value but low quality but you get what you pay for but most pubs have low quality food anyway(and I have low standards!) as even when we have paid full price for meals they are worse than say £1 ready meals from supermarket but I know from staff that have worked at the pubs before that they use vacumn packed food and just reheat it.

Still worth £1.99 for food but expect student quality lol.

It will be that cheap frozen fish which is disgusting. I would much rather pay the extra and get proper fish and chips. I suppose it is good enough for poor people.

No, it starts a day later up here because Tuesday is public holiday for us. Which I am now gutted about, as I am meeting my friend for a cheap lunch on Tuesday, and this deal wont be available yet. Still, if it wasn't a public holiday I would be working and not able to meet her at all. All swings and roundabouts I guess.

If you find a £2 coin in a £1.99 meal, surely that's good.

It was a pound coin, and it crawled off the plate, unbelievably. Never seen a beastie like it in my life.

Sadly not! We may just get a Greggs and sit on a bench in the shopping centre like teenagers!

All the wetherspoons i've been in have had great food. Better than pubs that charge a lot more and portions are particularly good. I've had their fish and chips and it's slightly better than ikea, but I don't complain cause of the price!
#25
They normally do hand basted cod and chips with tea or coffee and peas for £2.99... If some are doing it for 1.99 that's a great deal don't think it's been frozen maybe vac packed :) Tastes pretty good and decent portion.

My 20 yo son and his mates are often in Wetherspoons in various locations around Portsmouth (seems every suburb has one). The £1.99 ham, egg & chips is their favourite washed down with a pint: it's cheaper than a meal in McDonalds. The ales are usually alright too, especially as the Pompey pubs have started stocking Old Thumper which keeps me happy when I visit him.

Looks a bit suspicius to me - more like an ink transfer!

All the Spoons I've been to are pretty fair :) and for £1.99 as long as its edible you can't really complain! Heat added
#32
Some spoons are good, some are bad. Milton keynes midsummer boulevard is a nice one, whereas the xscape one isn't yet same city :)
#33
Shame our local wetherspoons is always full ov unemployed alcoholics. not a good atmosphere.

It comes in frozen and is cooked in the fryer- at least in the spoons kitchen I work in it is. I know of other spoons that don't use fryers so not sure how they'd cook it.

Nah, I'd imagine they hand-prepare the beer batter and coat the fresh fish in it for £2.99 a pop.

Most the stuff is frozen, not just at Spoons, but the vast majority of pub grub establishments.
