Pack up your office files and take them home. Carry thousands of songs or pictures. These drives are simple to use, light and easy to carry, and require no power adapter - they are powered directly through the USB cable.Installation is a snap because you don't really "install" this drive; you just plug it in and it's ready to use. There is no CD to install; the included software loads from the drive the first time you plug it in. Powered by the USB bus, so no separate power supply needed. This ultra-portable drive fits easily in your pocket or purse, weighs only a few ounces and holds tons of valuable data.

Just to note you can pickup the 120GB for just under £50 (afaik) from Ebuyer using Google Checkout too.

I have one of them and use it quite often. The benefit is that you do not need external power and it comes very handy as you can plug it on any computer anywhere.

I bought it when I wanted to run Ubantu and Windows XP on Virtual PC (which is now free from microsoft). It has been very good.

Good price for a good product. Voted Hot.

Note : You dont get a Y Usb cable with these. Which is required sometimes to power the drive. A quick phone call though to WD and they will send u one free.

Nice drives apart from that :)

I'm guessing he meant Physically 10 times bigger than the pocket drive - probably the Western Digitial My Books (I have the 320gb one, and considering they basically do the same job, they are Huge by comparison). :)

I bought the 120gb version of the above drive a few weeks back - and having had many pocket drives in the past - this is by far the most impressive looking, a very nice piece of hardware indeed.

Thanks for the feedback & welcome to HUKD Jakaru :)

For anyone else like me whose Portable drive contains their life, and goes with them everywhere - this is the actual pack I bought:

http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/534338/art/western-digital/external-passport-ii-2-5.html?itag=9698

Comes with a nice sturdy caselogic case - which has elasticated pouches on both halves (you could in theory put 2 of the drives in it).

The pack also comes with a handy Short USB cable (about 10cm), so that it doesn't take up too much room in the case! I added a mini 52 card reader into the case, to make it even more useful. :D

(Pixmania do various packages of Drives with other bits and pieces, always worth a look through the options)

Would someone who has one of these let me know if you can swap out the 2.5" drive? Thanks. I'd like to switch the drive in this with my freeview box.

The biggest I've seen around is 160GB

These are excellent drives at an excellent price.

Don't forget that if you buy from Amazon and their price drops within 30 days of purchase they will give you the difference back.

Can someone who has the 160gb version open the drive and see if it an IDE or an SATA drive? I want to replace the drive in my laptop and need an SATA drive.

Hmmm the 60GB version is £47.86, 120GB £55.09 and 160GB £70.48.

Strikes me the 120GB looks best value so that's what I've ordered.

apart from size is there any major difference between these and the WD My books . I've been looking at this

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-250GB-Essential-External/dp/B000EXZAOY/ref=products0b1a-21/026-9577110-2175633?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1178900046&sr=8-2
