Western digital 1TB external Hard Drive NOW £44.70 @ Amazon

£44.70 @ Amazon
Even cheaper now, good idea to buy two. Therefore 2TB for £90. Use 1 as a backup for data security incase of disc failure on the first.

or you could save space in your PC and buy a 2TB drive for £70 instead of £90!

*** Obvioulsy the bigger the drive the more to lose if it breaks and backups are essential for any size drive ***

What do you recon guys - are these slowly coming down in price, or are these just particularly good prices that are likely to increase again?
Need to buy one, just never sure when to hit that checkout button.

Ah-ha - stand corrected! :-)

reckon they are coming down in price.
However I'm holding off buying an external drive at the moment - weighing up either eSATA or USB3 as I currently have usb2 external drives and I need something a lot quicker.

...or just click the drop down menu and select 2TB which is £79.99....

Good price

I think the OP is referring to a back up drive in addition to the 1TB.

Not voting cold but for anyone no longer using Amazon you can get these at PC World for £45 for some time now - as was posted on here a while back (thanks to that original OP cos I got one) but this does mean using the code in the back of their Gift Guide (which must be first redeemed online - therefore this does require two trips to the store) otherwise it's £49.99 off the shelf in one visit.

A bit OT but I have one of these and put the Xbox 360 power suppy brick on top of it for a few mins while looking for something...would it likely have caused data degredation? Just thinking it might have some induction thing going on and this drive is my backup for many other drives.

Spotted this yesterday as I bought it for my dad at £50 recently.

Can I claim back the difference?

I don't think they will get much cheaper but neither will they get much dearer, reason is that makers are switching to USB3, therefore my advice would be................ if you plan to get a new PC soon with USB3 or are happy to buy a PCI USB3 card either wait a bit or pay a higher price for USB3 drive now, if you are happy with USB2 then now is a good time to buy (IMHO of course) :)

Will work fine as an external drive if FAT formatted

It does but needs reformatted first. I partitioned mine - 500GB for Time machine and the rest for movies which my appleTV can see and deliver across the network to my Bravia with a lovely interface.

I have had the 2GB version of this for a few months.
I took it out of the enclosure and put it in my PC.
