Thought it was a good price for a 500GB, portable, usb powered, 2.5" hard drive.

Maximum capacity in a small design.
Store all your favorite videos, music, photos, and important files. Still sleek and compact, you can slip it in your pocket and take it with you anywhere.

Plug-and-play simplicity.
Preformatted for Windows-based PCs, just plug the drive into a USB port and you're up and running.

USB powered.
These drives require no power adapter because they are powered directly though the USB cable.

Model No: WDBABV5000ABK

Same here, I'd recommend this based on the 320gb one.

5400/7200?
#5
I would expect 5400 for the heat and power requirements, my 320 has a WD Blue drive in it.

is this price good guys?

Don't forget 2.5% quidco!

is this price good guys?

with Quidco it works out to about £5 cheaper than other places

I just ordered the usb3 portable drive for £38 last night (plus a bit of quidco to come as well!), even if you don't currently have usb3 makes sense to future proof yourself.

Lots of deals on portable drives currently, I bet most of the new ones will start to come with usb 3 as standard.

Sorry if this is stupid but is it possible to to set an external drive up in RAID 1?
#12
Hagwag, that drive is a 3.5" Desktop drive. This one is a 2.5" Portable drive, smaller and will not need a seperate power supply, as it will be powered over the USB cable.

Hope that helps

Ah yes :o) Should have read the spec properly!

very good price

How is this getting hot, when you can get usb3 ones for less at comet and laxys?
Both on here can't link on phone

It looks lot like the WD Elements (500GB usb powered) one I've been using for nearly a year one and would highly recommend. It's left plugged into pc (front USB) port all the time.
my original order (with amazon, paid about £40, but now showing at £147, because it's been replaced with updated one)
my existing WE Elements purchased nearly 1 year ago
replaced with newer mode for £44.99:
Newer model WD Elements SE500GB portable same model no as thread

So for £40.99, the comet deal is cheaper vs amazon.

Got myself one also. Works great with Wiiflow on the wii and Wiimc. Great drives for the price. I got currys to pricematch for £40.59 ;-)

Reduced to £38.99 now - even a better bargain when originally posted at £40.99.
