It will indeed. Apparently it's worth paying extra for 16MB cache though, especially with the new games coming out with heavy HDD dependence.

If the PS3 uses standard size 2.5” SATA laptop drives then it ‘should’ work, but check with someone that has a PS3 and knows their stuff.

Certainly will (search or google WD2500BEVs) - this a very cheap price for an excellent drive.

I just ordered one; I hope it arrives by next Tuesday but with Easter who knows!

Change the title, description and picture and you will get a lot more hits.

Also it will wind up all the Xbots who are ripped off.

Good idea. I did make the change so that it's more obvious for PS3 users.

Slight improvement, it will still go unnoticed though. Not many people are aware you can upgrade the PS3's storage so last time it was a big hit.

Swapping a laptop's hard drive in comparison is too much hassle even for those with the technical know how.
#11
that's a good price.
I guess, if u get an enclosure , u can use as a portable drive..

It used to be a pain but now that laptops use SATA drives which have exactly the same data and power connectors as Desktop SATA drives it’s easy. Here’s what I do:

Connect both laptop drives to my desktop PC and temporarily disconnect any desktop SATA drives.
Boot the PC from a Norton Ghost CD and clone the old drive to the new one.
Install the new drive and away you go.

You can possibly use a demo version of Ghost or Acronis to keep the cost down.

Wow, that's an amazing price!

That makes sense .. unless you are using a laptop .. because you cannot have a desktop pc.

I don't see why as 360 doesn't do HDD installs (not at 5GB per game like the PS3!!!), so the space isn't necessary (since launch I've used virtually none of my 360 HDD space).....and if you want to store media, then an external USB drive is both cheaper, more flexible and better.

However, I've just bought one of these for my PS3 as I quite fancy playing about with the PlayTV when it comes out, and believe me you'll need the extra HDD space for that! So thanks to the OP.

I just looked at the standard 60GB hard drive that is inside my PS3 and it has an 8-MB cache buffer so the one in the deal will work fine.

Thanks, this is seriously cheap now; I’ve updated the post to reflect the new price.

Well… yes, but you just have to know someone that owns a desktop which shouldn’t be that hard.

This particular drive should perform exactly the same as your PS3's existing HDD. However, what he's talking about is in terms of access/transfer speed. It gives the system a small speed/loading time boost by having a larger 16mb cache (whereas spinspeed has virtually no effect, in fact it may be detrimental as faster spin drives cause a lot more heat)......unfortunately there's a big price difference for that extra 8mb cache.

This is the same drive I have in my PS3. It's as silent as the original unit and it cost me £25 more a month ago. Very good price.

I wasn’t expecting to be able to cancel from previous experiences with Ebuyer but I could this time. The status was Goods Allocated and I just clicked on the Cancel Order tab.

Interested by this comment - I dont understand the reasoning, swapping a laptop hard drive is a piece of the proverbial?
#32
I had two of the £3.55 HDMI cables and another 500GB Western Digital USB £59.99 in my basket too.

£3.36 lost. They've robbed me of what could of been another HDMI, *******s.
#33
But as a side note, a very good hard drive perhaps for 2.5" external HDD enclosures?

I don't know how or where to start in replying to that.
#35
Well, explain why "even someone with technical knowhow" would not want to replace a laptop hard drive?
#36
Nice one.

just a question,i don't think i will use my 40gb capacity on my ps3 but is it handy to upgrade the internal or is it just as well having an external one???

It all depends on the laptop. A lot of laptops are a real pain in the ass needing you to remove the keyboard and facia, but more recent lappies seem to have sorted this problem with trapdoors.

Some games now require you to install the game to the HDD for optimal performance at about 5GB a time due to slow Bluray access times, so a 40GB would only have room for about 10 such games to install.

Upgrading the hard disk is most worthwhile if you intend to use the PS3 as a media center. I use mine for music, pictures and videos. If you only play games it is not really worth it.
