I just bought one of these from scan - they were £96 last week and are still over £100 for an identical drive from dabs.com

This is a SATA2 (according to forums, backwards compatible with SATA) hard disk with a monster 320 Gb. Unlike some other 320 Gb 2.5" drives, this one is normal height and will fit a MacBook (or MacBook Pro if you want to void your warranty :) ).

Do not be put off by the fact that this is a 5400 RPM drive - it is faster in most circumstances than a 250 Gb 7200 RPM Seagate Momentus drive (see http://www.ozhardware.com.au/Storage-Hardware-Reviews/Western-Digital-Scorpio-320GB-SATA-II-2.5inch-Hard-Drive-Review/2-The-Test.html).

Sign up for an account at AV Forums and link it to your scan account for free delivery - you don't need to post on the forum or anything!

This is apparently also PS3 compatible:

#11
Voted hot, was looking for a larger PS3 drive!

Ordered - just what the doctor ordered for my laptop!

I think you are limited to 250GB usable with the PS3, unless this has been changed with firmware updates recently.
#14
Great deal! ordered one too - plenty of heat and rep for OP

This deal was posted about a month ago from ebuyer - only they were charging £100.

Don't forget Hexus users can get free delivery at scan.
#15
thanks for this.. was trailing through the previous hot deals looking for the 250gb hard drive... this 320gb is much better and roughly the same price i believe.

Nice find. HOT!!!

I've read in forums that these are good for Macbook and Macbook Pro - i've ordered for one (looks fairly easy to fit on an MBP too, although if you break anything, bye bye AppleCare :( ). Apparently despite the fact it is a SATA2 drive it will work straight away in a SATA connector (as found on most (if not all) MacBook and MacBook Pro models).

This should also fit a Mac Mini or an iMac.

#21
Seems like a good deal and I am tempted to get one. I am assuming the 2ms seek time is a typo though.
#22
Damn! I just bought the external version of this from PC World for £100 and hacked it out of the case!!

either check in device manager (if using Windows) or download something like HDtach, when you run it it should tell you the hard drive manufacture code (ie for this drive its WD3200BEVT), search that in google and it should tell you what it is.

Alternatively if you have a fairly standard laptop searching for it in google usually gives spec results. I would safely assume that any laptop built within the last year or 2 at a push will be SATA.

Hope this helps.

EDIT:

forgot to add this is a great deal, appear to be going for £10-£20 more elsewhere.

If you are going to replace your current drive then I really recommend Acronis True Image to transfer an exact copy of your current Windows install to it, also I would say that (as I will be doing when I get this) its probably not a bad idea to get a 2.5" SATA caddy from Scan too, that way you can put your old drive into it and use it as a portable drive or whatever, only around £12 on Scan for a nice IcyBox one.

Ordered mine last night and it's been delayed due to ''unexpected volumes in our warehouse".

Really really really, annoying!!! Poor service.

If it is IDE as you suspect then this is about as large as you will find:

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=736213

Currently £66 which seems a good deal.

Hope this helps, they are phasing out IDE in favour of SATA these days so choices are limited.

I’ve had that happen to me a number of times even if I placed the order the previous evening. I like Scan but they certainly haven’t been the most reliable in terms of honouring the day that they say they’ll deliver; nothing chronic but nothing to shout about. Doesn’t bother me so I continue to use them more than anybody.

Yeah scan have done that to me repeatedly (and did it again this time). Mine has been loaded onto the van now, so should be with me tomorrow!

Same with mine. Orderd on Tuesday night though, was picked at 09:10, but not posted until 1pm today!

Very annoying, that it has apprently just been sat there waiting to go.

Need to sort their warehouse and picking out.
#34
Never had any problems with Scan and deliveries, in fact I choose them and eBuyer these days for the fact that they are very reliable for me, but YMMV of course.
#35
Received mine yesterday, fitted in my MBP. Works great and it's so good having so much space!!!

Think it's going to take me about a week to rip all my CD collection though!!
#36
By the way, it's also Extremely fast!! and quiet. Would really recommend especially at this reduced price. Very Hot
#37
£78.14 delivered this weekend on the today only page :)
#38

#39
Hm, what are scan like? likely to give you the difference back??
#40
Doubt it but may be worth a try but I dont think I will quibble over that much money.
