good deal for those ps3 upgraders out there (best thing i ever did!)

Ditto, I've got the Toshiba one in mine... Very easy to swap it over. Its actually only 298Gb though, something to do with the rounding of 1024bytes...

Very good price. If I was desperate, I'd grab one now, but I will wait a bit longer for the 500 GB drives get cheaper to add to my laptop. Heat added.

Does this work on a macbook ?

Computer translates 1GB correctly as 1024MB, but industry says 1000MB. Hence the 'loss' ... been going on FAR too long now and I think something should be done about it to be honest.

I've got this drive in my PS3 .....Bargain price !!

I think the drive capacity is the Raw size, when it is formatted for use by your operating system it takes some space. There is nothing you can do about this

Formatting uses a small chunk, but the industry not stating that a GB is 1024 MB and so forth, means that we 'lose out' on a bit more of that space. It's a bit naughty really. My 1TB drive formatted to 930GB in NTFS, but in no file format at all ('Raw' if you like), it was about 970GB.

Hey guys, without attempting to sound stupid, what is the point of upgrading the PS3 hard-drive at the moment? Not that many game sare available for direct download and I store the majority of my media on my PC. Am I missing something?

Cheers!

Better spec - but more £££, it's £52.99 without vat or delivery, so more like £70

Personally I'd find it handy for Singstar, cos the songs for that take up a significant amount of space, plus I could put my entire music collection on the PS3.

If you have PlayTV you can store loads more recorded programmes.

The list goes on...

this drive is more expensive and also runs at a faster 7200 rpm rather than 5400rpm which is the reommended speed for ps3 console any faster and may overheat
#18
Plus a 7200 rpm drive will be noticed much more for two reasons. 1) it will be audibly much louder and 2) it will consume more power than the standard 5400 rpm. For most people, a 5400 rpm drive is more than adequate for data storage. For an operating system though, 7200 rpm is much more favourable.

My Ps3 is filled up with films mainly (oh and large installs for some games MGS3 anyone?), since the advent of hidef video files most of my movies average around 6 gig each.
