Good drive but has been at this price for many months now - nothing hot about this price. Scan sometimes have it as low as £35 on today only.

Same at play and prob a lot of other places too

Ah well, I thought it was for cheaps but I guess not.

Is it cheaper anywhere else? (I just ordered, will cancel if it's cheaper anywhere else).

anyone know if this will work with a macbook pro?

Yes it is a standard 2.5" laptop SATA drive.

Upgrade my PS3, it was so easy, from another hotukdeals post, remember one problem you must sync your trophes on PSN Network otherwise you will lose them.....
#7
Beware quality control in amazon, I've worked there as a picker and these are simply thrown and piled up like packets of crisps. :w00t:

Otherwise HOT!

Anyone know where I can get the bits to fit this as a second drive in a Dell Studio 17 laptop ? I know I need a caddy and a connector but can't find them anywhere ??

Had a faulty drive from there once (a marketplace seller tho) but they replaced it no probs.

out of interest, how easy is it to install? how easy is it to transfer save files? and finally.... is it worth it how quickly did people fill their drives..I have had an 80gb for bout 6 months and havent even touched the drive really think I've used about 10gb-20gb max and I mainly use my external and laptop to stream files...so is it worth it?? cheers

It's been this price at play.com for a long time now.

Just google "how to upgrade your PS3 (or ps3 slim) hard drive" and you will get plenty of articles and videos. You need to backup your save games and download the latest PS3 firmware form the playstation Europe site and have it ready on a USB key, but I think that's the most prep you will need to do. I think you may have to re-download some PSN Store bought content though.

Just got the 36gb Scorpio Blue for £19 (Amazon+gift certificate). I plan on putting it in a caddy and storing my movie collection on, then get rid of my DVD's.

lol I know how to google things...I was just canvasing opinion on here...I knew about the recent psn firmware update, but it doesnt tell you how it works...anywho...I think I'll just keep streaming things for the time being untill my 80gb runs out from game saves...doubt it will happen soon, then I'll upgrade but thanks for input

Cheap and cheerful. Good for a PS3, probably plump for a 7200RPM for a lappy.

What are the advantages of upgrading your PS3 harddisk?
#17
Hmm, silly to pay such a money for internal one when I grabbed same capacity external by Iomega few weeks ago. Al though it was a hot deal.
#18
You mean you are able to fit a 2nd hard drive INSIDE? the laptop?
#19
you upgrade to have more storage space

if your putting on movies on it it soon fill up

you can only use a external hardrive on ps3 if you have files under 4gb in size and fat 32 only

easy to upgrade
#20
If the Comet offer is still on, cheaper to get it there. £39.99 minus 10%, minus Quidco for an external one that you can de-caddy.
#21
It is great how cheaply you can upgrade the PS3 hard drive, did mine about a year ago now.. trouble is i've bearly used any of the extra space!! Here's hoping for FreeSat HD PlayTV!!!
#22
Anyone know where the cheapest 500Gb version is of this?
#23
These will work in a 360 too, if u know how to flash it, you only get 250gb of it though if being used in a 360, but still cheap!

I did mine & my brothers about 8 months ago with this drive - so far filled about 200 Gig with movies, photos & some music but obviously everyone will be different.
Great to view your digital photos & divx on the telly rather than laptop/pc and acts as a back-up to your main storage media.
Also as someone else men can utilise PLAYtv but I haven't done this personally.

Funnily enough, as I type my Iomega external portable HD from the Comet deal has just turned up!! That's my wii sorted now as well!;-)
#25
Great price for the drive.

BUT BE WARNED IF YOU WATCH IPLAYER!

If you upgrade to this HDD, you will have a pause/stutter every 10 secs in iPlayer.

This is because the WD drives 'park' their heads when not in use, it then take a fraction of a second to recover.

See this site for a workaround, but not a fix!
#26
Vote HOT, Good price even though other site's had it for this price range ages ago, its dead easy to install on PS3 just make sure you do you back up etc, use it for mostly recording my films and sitcoms via play tv and vast collection of demos games

Adamo - any advice as to which one? Would rather pick a drive up from Comet, rather than have one bounce about in the back of a royal mail wagon!

Thx
Paul

Edit - it seems 10ALLHD code does not work any more at Comet - 5ALLHD works ok, however is only 5% off :( brings it to within £3 of this one tho :)
#28
Can't see this at Comet for that price?
#29
got this in my PS3, no iPlayer problems, easy to do and well worth it
#30
Personally I'd go for a 250GB 7200rpm from eBuyer for £2 more:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/161678

Not PS3 Compatible though..doh.
#31
I watch my divx on thumb drives - how do you copy them to your PS3? Via network?
#32
I'd agree that this is the standard price, but still the best £40 I have spent in a long long time. Purchased this drive a week ago for my PS3 to use with PlayTV and the installation was a breeze!

I notice that it has been recommended that a 7200rpm drive may be better, but I would say that if you intend putting a drive in the PS3, only install a 5400rpm drive like this one. Compatability issues can arise with any drive above this speed.

just to follow up - there is a fix here - but be warned, BusterCBrown's solution, requires you to be fairly PC savvy.

I ran this 'fix' on my 320 WD Scorpio Blue and Iplayer streaming perfect now.

Put the thumb drive in the USB socket on the PS3 - go to the "Video" section and you should see the USB drive listed there - press triangle on the controller and a message something like "Display all?" will appear - press X to confirm and then the divx files should appear - then press circle or triangle (can't remember!) and options should appear, such as "copy" or "copy multiple" - you can then select which files to copy to the PS3 hard drive.

Same method for music and photos from USB sticks.

Simples!

sorry, being a bit thick here - but the issue with iplayer - is ts specific to watching iplayer on a ps3 or if I upgrade my macbook with one of these will I get the same stuttering issue?

Ta!
